Oprah Sued for Slip and Fall

It is a classic tort — the slip and fall. Now a woman is suing Oprah for falling during the scramble for a seat on her television program. Businesses are potentially liable for failing to take reasonable steps to prevent such accidents. However, most such suits are “strike suits” designed to get someone to fork over $5000 to dismiss the action — cheaper than litigating the matter. While crowd control is a responsibility for the show, including foreseeable rushes, most of these lawsuits are either dismissed by the court or rejected by a jury in a tort action.
