The Marine Mammal Protection Act makes it a crime to injure sea lions and other mammals. Usually this is done with nets, harpoons, guns. However, a 24-year-old fisherman named Hai Nguyen, stabbed a sea lion with a steak knife. He was mad at the 6-foot female for stealing his bait. The sea lion had to be euthanized after the attack — which was witnessed by various people on the pier. The strange thing is that some are outraged by the punishment. This is obviously someone who should not be walking around in society and the criminalization of these offenses reflect not only the shocking depravity of the act but also the need to deter people like Hai Nguyen who have no respect for nature.
