Report: Craig to Resign

Reports today indicate that Sen. Craig has decided to resign, click here The question remains whether, in light of recent scandals and indictments of other members, this is a consistent result. It appears that it is permissible to frequent prostitutes, face criminal indictments, and engage in every form of open corruption. However, when it comes to allegations of homosexuality, such misconduct takes on a lethal element. I hardly feel sorry for Craig, however, there remains a striking lack of consistency in the response of party leaders to different forms of misconduct. Craig pleaded guilty to a minor charge of disorderly conduct and has denied the allegations of solicitation, which were never charges.

I had the same reaction. Most things are OK with Republicans except being gay. I was amazed that the emphasis he placed on this point in his latest public address. He didn’t seem to be concerned with the crime to which he plead guilty, only with stressing his sexuality. Why is it often those who attack homosexuals who end up exhibiting the same behavior?

You are absolutely correct. This truth is so glaring, yet in my non-scientific scan of progressive blogs, 90% of the voices are missing the point.

The only explanation I can come up with is that the corporate media has unleashed a feeding frenzy off the gay-sex angle, and progressives bought into it hook, line, and sinker. DISCLAIMER: I don’t watch or listen to corporate media, so I’m guessing that this is what happened.

“However, when it comes to allegations of homosexuality, such misconduct takes on a lethal element.”

So simple and so true. This is where everybody’s hypocrisy–right-wing and progressive–is exposed bare-naked in public. The Democrats have been curiously silent on this issue, and that doesn’t make it right.
