In a continuing affront to the rules of law and decency, the Saudi Court responsible for the sentencing of a rape victim to 200 lashes and jail has now taken the license of her lawyer.
The woman’s flogging was increased because the case was made public — triggering worldwide condemnation. Her seven attackers however only received light jail sentences as low as ten months for a gang rape and attack on her friend.
The Court justified its decision to double her sentence and to discipline the lawyer on the grounds that they attempted to influence the court through the media. It would be laughable if it were not such an offense to human decency. All this lawyer did was tell others about the sentence. The outcry was due not to his actions but the fanatical lunacy of this religious court.
