Dear Jonathan,

Just for the record I wanted to make some minor corrections to your entry about Domenico Salerno. Domenico has visited a number of times before and so Caitlin was not introducing him to us. We actually first met him while we were on vacation in Rome in the summer of 2006. He was also quite well known to many of our neighbors from these earlier visits. Also, while he and Caitlin are boyfriend/girlfriend, the’ve not made any statements about marriage so “future wife” is a bit presumptious at this point.

I agree completely. Did you read Dana Priest’s expose of detention under ICE? in the washinton post? This country is engaging in terrible acts. Many of the ICE people felt very badly about what they were doing, so much so that they quit their job. We need a working congress and judicial system to stop all this illegality.

Mr. Salerno’s case is just another example of the excesses that have been standard operating procedure in this country since the regime of George W. Bush was forced upon us by the Supreme Court. This is not the country that I knew growing up. This is not the country that my parents knew growing up. What will it take for people lto realize that if it can happen to a totally innocent man from our ally Italy, it can happen to anyone of us. Will these government agents and/or their supervisors be disciplined for their crime of illegally detaining a legal visitor from a friendly country? Probably not in the world that George W. Bush created.
