Murdering your parents and then asking mercy from the court as an orphan. It seems that so many people like Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, David Vitter and these two fools, present themselves publicly as crusaders against their private weaknesses. Sadly, many of us project a public persona that hides some of our true selves, even if our private “failings” are far below the level of these hypocrisies. Most of this can be ascribed to what is known as mild neurotic behavior. The instances illustrated by this story and in the examples I cite, achieve a level of full blown pathological behavior. I believe that our President and some members of his cohort have sociopathic pathologies, which they defend as “doing their duty.” In this administration though, others like the VP behave pathologically merely because they’re greedy and egocentric.

We have known for years that child predators tend to gravitate towards jobs where they can work with their prey. Boy Scout leaders, day care workers, and similar vocations or avocations have seen a rise in complaints for this type of abuse. We had a multi-million dollar settlement here in Virginia involving a daycare worker at a church-run daycare in Williamsburg involving several victims. That a child advocate dons the wolf’s clothing seems in line with this but more invidious. The anger management guy is just crazy.
