Juicing the Fruits

(OKLAHOMA CITY) I'm sure the sham of appearing at the Capitol and giving the impression this is a legislative procedure is exactly what was intended when GOPer Sally Kern and Krew planned their morality proclamation ceremony on July 2 in Oklahoma City.

If she were interested in promoting only morality and not instead, introducing her personal religious restrictions, why isn't she using her own church, Olivett Baptist, as her backdrop?

As always with the mentally unbalanced words and actions are morphed into absurd definitions and shapes. Lies to support other lies are always invented, regardless of how holy the intent of the lies is supposed to be.

She speaks of divorce as contributing to national decline. How short her memory is for anything except bible verses.

Kern's patron saint, Ronald Reagan, was divorced, as is Newt Gingrich and Rumbaugh twice each. Sen. Vitter of LA likes diaper sex with paid escorts and Gov. Sandford of SC abandons his family and state duties to amorize in Argentina. Gov. Palin of AK can't teach her eldest daughter to say simple words like, "No".

When you don't set yourself up on a high soap box in the first place and then mistake it for a psychiatrist's office you don't have to fall so inevitably far when you come up short in your own life.

Kern should spend more time looking at the fruit falling close to her family tree ( http://tinyurl.com/krahr9 ) before she tries to juice the private lives of others.

Well I see that every rule has an exception. While I generally follow Carlin's adage about euphemistic language being bad for us humans, I will stipulate that seamus has found a use for it after all. Kernservative indeed.

Yep.

Rep. Sally Kern (K)

I like the ring of that.

O.K. Professor Turley got mad at me a few months ago for using an expression that rymed with muck-jarred, and which could be suggested by F _ _ _t_rd.

I realised I have a potty mouth and/or keyboard. But this type of post seems to justify the use of said expression, possibly in the plural.

From now on, I'll just use Kernservative in place of F_ _ _t_rd and you'll know what I mean.

Man O' man does that lady have crazy eyes.

I will give her this though, The bible does say divorce is an abomination and those dovorced should be stoned to death. I always wonder why gays don't use this more to throw some crazy bible-based b.s. back at their critics. They'd get Newt, Rush and a whole lot of crazys.

Thanks, Swarthmore Mom for pointing out the positive changes in Texas. I'm not a native Texan. When I came here for a job assignment I had the usual misconceptions about Texas that many Northerners have.If you knew my background you would say I was the least likely to ever move to Texas.

The police raid in Ft. Worth is an outrage. Unfortunately there are racist and homophobic cops in a lot of places. Something that might have been swept under the rug a few years ago is now the focus of public outrage in the local papers and TV news. That's a positive change.

Today an African American man occupies Henry Wade's old office as the Dallas D A. He is opening old cases and working with the Innocence Project - 19 people have been released from prison as a result. Dallas County has a lesbian Latina sheriff - yes, you read that correctly.

More people moved to Texas last year than to any other state. More Fortune 500 companies are headquartered here than any other state. This is helping those of us who are working hard to turn Texas blue again. Come on down, y'all !

Thanks for being patient with this long post, Harry

I guess Kern and people like her really don't believe in a nation that allows all religious belief and think others should be persecuted by religion, dispite our Constitution saying otherwise.
Morality is a basic human concept not just religions. If she wishes to blame a political party for all the bad things in this country she would have to include all of them.Unless she's willing to lie for party affiliation reasons.
Everyone knows their a basic good and bad that everyone follows and that it is wrong to phyical hurt or harm anyone regardless of their beliefs.
If she wishes to talk about morality and how lack of it has destroyed our nation perhaps she needs to look at those in government who lie, cheat and steal and don't even give consideration to their own actions first before blaming and judging anyone.

mespo727272:
"Conservatives, who generally can’t handle proper syntax or sentence structure on their computers or anywhere else for that matter, are usually precluded from this activity due to the horrible scars on their hands"

Tis a pity you are correct, my only defense is working for a living. The bloody knuckles typically come from a hard days labor, building bridges and buildings and water treatment plants and roads and schools. Although there are many working class democrats, they have yet to figure out that elitist liberals have nothing but disdane for them as is shown by your comment.

Give me the common sense of the American working man or woman any day of the week.

I think Mr. Jefferson has a quote about this, but I havent time to look it up.

I'm sure many of the people "QUOTED" here are rolling in their graves.

How much of this is taken out of context? Sure Patrick Henry may have said or written “This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians”.

Did he also say in the same breath "Isn't that a miracle? We created a Government that respects all faiths and imposes none."

I bet you take the Bible out of context too...

This is absolutely devoid of intelligence and information based on reality. We have got to put an end to these religious fanatics fantasy land antics. Since they believe that “God”, is giving them the power, it is time for Oklahoman's to stand up and stop this ridiculous charade of loss of reality. She, Sally Kern, is obviously not fit mentally to be involved in making decisions for Oklahoma (or even her own family members, maybe even her own life). This has gone past a matter of opinion about God or morality. She is teetering on the ledge of insanity, and I would hate for Oklahoma too fall off the ledge with her and her cohorts.

We've seen how well mixing religion and politics worked for the Taliban, the Saudis, Savanarola, etc....

BTW liberals* aren't unhappy. The fact that we like to discuss the issues on the web is a sign that we're conversant with the issues.

*I believe the poster I refer to meant to include all liberals, not just Dems. I'm an independent liberal (sometimes voting Democratic, sometimes Green and sometimes Libertarian). We all like to discuss the issues, rather than just taking our "ideas" directly from bloviating talk radio entertainers.

Here is the link to Terry Gross's interview with Jeff Sharlet on, The Family. It is chilling and important. It actually ties into Rep. Kerr's diatribe but more importantly, you will see clearly the connection with christianity, Sanford's reference to King David, and our constant alliance with world leaders who tend to be mass murderers.

"Fresh Air from WHYY, July 1, 2009 · In the book The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power, author Jeff Sharlet examines the power wielded by the secret Christian group known as The Family or The Fellowship.

Founded in 1935 in opposition to FDR's New Deal, the right-wing fundamentalist religious group organizes prayer meetings for Congressmen, as well as the annual National Prayer Breakfast. The group also has an alleged connection to a house in Washington, D.C. known as C Street, which serves as a prayer house and residence for politicians like Governor Mark Sanford, Senator John Ensign and Senator Tom Coburn.

A religion expert and a journalist, Sharlet is a contributing editor for Harper's and Rolling Stone. He is editor of The Revealer, a review of religion and the press."

"dems seem to be the unhappiest people i’ve ever met.btw,i’m not a republican.... i have noticed that dems are always on the forums and message boards with an axe to grind about something that they can’t ever change(usually blaming republicans). what anger and stress must be present in their lives all the time."

I think you mean to say we're the "most literate people I've ever met," though, of course, we haven't met you. Conservatives, who generally can't handle proper syntax or sentence structure on their computers or anywhere else for that matter, are usually precluded from this activity due to the horrible scars on their hands. You see, dragging their knuckles on the ground so much tends to do this. Thanks for your prescient, though convoluted commentary on those you do not know.

wvmmrh,

I think you have a position and it is that of republican. Maybe you have been forced to listen repeatedly that everyone but republicans complain. Listen and listen good, Read the Newspaper(s) don't listen to what someone else's spin is on something. Make your own mind up. Its not that hard. Now if you are a hold over from Scientology then good day, your mind is already away.

This just makes me proud to be from Oklahoma! “Where the wind comes sweeping down the plains", and apparently where certifiably crazy politicians attempt to legislate utterly insane nonsense and expect the rest of us to believe that they are actually standing up for truth and righteousness. What’s really incredible is that they actually believe this stuff! They even believe that they are "humble" servants of the lord, and that atheists and agnostics are brazenly "arrogant" for simply proclaiming that they sincerely doubt other folks' unsupportable claims about miracles. I would suggest that they don't even know the meanings of those words. Or at least they don't understand that the word "arrogant" applies to their behavior, and the word "humble" actually applies to the skeptical atheist or agnostic who admits that he/she does not know the truth about the Universe and Mankind's place in it. Devoutly religious people tacitly claim to know the Truth, despite the total lack of evidence in support of their claims. The sort of self-righteous nonsensical drivel on display here, and the places of power that its’ proponents so often speak from (almost always from far-right Republicans, although there are plenty of self-deluded Democrats as well) make me and others fearful for the future of this planet. Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern (R) and her ideological comrades are in reality no better intellectually, or even morally, than crazy Islamists who believe that they must convert the world to Islam, or else slay or enslave anyone who won't succumb. Both world views come from an ideology of intolerance, fear, and hatred – definitely not from a place of reason, compassion, empathy, and yes, love. Where do such people get the idea that it is acceptable to suspend the very concepts of reason, evidence, and rational discussion when the subject turns to ethics, morality, and even spirituality? It’s very sad that the world is still saddled with such outright lunacy posing as morality, and that there are so few people who will stand up to proclaim that the religious far-right’s understanding of ethics and morality is fundamentally and fatally flawed.
Here’s a couple of questions that are desperately in need of answers:
1. How do we (collectively - as christians, jews, muslims, hindus, agnostics, atheists, etc.) fully engage in conversation about these issues with our business associates, friends and neighbors - who often don’t share our specific beliefs (or lack thereof) – without jeopardizing our business / social relationships and friendships? This is a politically incorrect subject, but I believe it is desperately in need of a massive public airing.
2. Specifically for those of us who do not harbor religious certainties: How do we engage in in-depth conversation on these subjects with our friends and business colleagues who are otherwise smart, reasonable and friendly people - but who have a partition set up in their minds on the other side of which resides their belief in unjustifiable religious “wishful thinking” - without jeopardizing our relationships and friendships?

Methinks Rep. Kern may have been hit in the head by a few 2×4s while hiding from one of the many tornadoes the LORD sends every year to punish Oklahoma for its sinful ways.
*****************
I am thinking that maybe Quantum Physics came into play. Or Einstein's theory of relativity or some other brand I cannot recall. Skate board to the face comes to mind.

Put Oklahoma in that special category with Texas as “places to avoid”. Thanks but no thanks. Ignorance? Check. Bigotry? Check. Closed-mindedness? Check. Visit there? Not a chance.

Texas can be a very fine place to visit. It can also be a good ideal to avoid Gay Bars in Ft Worth when the cops are doing sobriety checks in the bars.

I am not a native Texan, but you cannot compare it to Oklahoma. Obama won Dallas County 57-42. Texas has received so many immigrants from Asia, Latin America, the midwest and the northeast in the last ten years that it has really changed the make-up of the population.

Put Oklahoma in that special category with Texas as "places to avoid". Thanks but no thanks. Ignorance? Check. Bigotry? Check. Closed-mindedness? Check. Visit there? Not a chance.

Somehow, the phrase "dumb as a sack of hammers" floated to mind while reading this story. It's an apt description of Rep. Kern and all the Oklahoma cornservatives who put her in office. What outrageous insanity is next from this witless band of know-nothings? Will Obama be blamed for the murder of Franz Ferdinand in 1914 and the stock market crash of '29?

i unhappily have to say that i live in oklahoma..every one of the state's 77 counties went for mccain in the november election..the margin of mccain victory here was 66%-34%..what is ironic is that oklahoma has more registered democrats than republicans, by 300,000 people..the governor, brad henry, is a democrat..

many people in the state have viewpoints that are extremely racist and homophobic, in their thinking, and religiously, very evangelical..sally kerns is representative of this kind of thinking..the state capitol is planning on erecting a large stone scupture, with the 10 commandments inscribed, on the front lawn of the capitol..

it's a sad "state" of affairs here..i have lived here for only 2 years..moved here for financial reasons..if i had the money i would move from oklahoma in a heart beat..

Oklahoma was fortunate to have a movie and great score named after it. Let's see: How long has it been? That's great mileage!

So why bring all the romance and rich flavor to an end with zero grace? Zero tolerance? Zero humanity? Zero hope? Are these Jesus-endorsed?

Sometimes I wish Gates, Buffet, and Soros would donate tons of laptops with free Internet hook-up to every qualifying Red State Republican. Truly, an investment in the future-even if most were used for target practice. After all, knowledge=Satan. And by qualify, I mean: Did it go for the Bush-Cheney dictatorship twice?

http://www.light-to-dark.com/neo_con_trifecta.html

I believe there's a large, frustratingly slow motion epiphany happening right now, but after eight years of Unitary Execufascist occupation, and the accompanying effects of it's economic model, it's domestic control operation (Patriot & MCA Acts), and radically skewed wealth distribution with nary a bump of a Middle Class, I remain cautiously optimistic.

Mission accomplished on the Milt Friedman Gone Wildest preemption, thanks to the good folks in the Red States. Damn it, I couldn't help myself. Imagine realizing you and your family were used to run a protections racket. Imagine the Redneck suddenly realizing that an unwanted intercourse spread over time is still getting stiffed.

Turley and Toobin are the two best legal commentators on politics in the US these days!

Both have a deep knowledge of the law, and know how to speak and write about their subjects clearly and penetratingly...and both have a sense of humor to go along with their law smarts.

Thanks Jonathan for this absurd example of this intersection of right-wing nuttery and far right Christianist beliefs—a toxic mix!

Could you please make the type in the Reply box a little bigger and bolder? I'm having real trouble reading what I'm typing...thanks.

Absolutely hilarious. Thanks for posting the story.

But the article could use some proofreading. You use "his" for Kern instead of "her." Unimportant mistake in the long run, but a bit annoying.

"You may recall Kern from his viral video ranting about gays . . ."

In some ways, Oklahoma makes Texas look like a bastion of civil rights, religious tolerance and liberal thinking. Texas seems thus far to retain its top postion as having the nation's most insane cops and jurists, however.

And did you notice? Some of the quotes she claims come from the founders, didn't. Ed Brayton has the story here:
http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2009/06/sally_kerns_fake_history.php#more

It's bad enough they get the logic an Biblical stuff all wrong -- their savaging of history is just as bad, if not worse. They're pledging to a false idea of scripture, a false vision of history, a false god.

And they have the gall to call Obama immoral?
