We have yet another “honor killing.” Ahmad-Sobair O, an Afghan-German citizen, stabbed his 16-year-old sister, Morsel, 23 times for wearing Western clothes and make-up.
He claimed that the clothes “stained the family’s honour” — it appears that murdering a young girl is viewed as upholding the honor and reputation of your family in this community.
The killer is 24 and this latest killing is one of over 50 recorded in Germany since 1996.
Some accounts say that there was sibling rivalry and the killer was set off when his sister told him that it was none of his business to ask her about her lifestyle, here. The Spiegal article here, offers a more nuanced view of the family environment and dynamics.
Germany has been shocked by around 50 so-called “honour killings” since 1996, mainly in the country’s large Turkish diaspora.

i will point out there is no such thing as an honour killing in islam, it is a matter of culture, as shown in the UK where honour killings are proportionally more common amongst sikhs and hindus.
i also read the newspaper a few weeks ago, there were two stories of husbands murdering their wives out of jealousy but they were white so its ok its not an honour killing.
killing someone out of pride is not right, never has been right and i cant think of a religion which condones this.
the correct islamic punishment is house arrest for a woman who dresses indecently (for a man its a heavy beating)
Honor killings for adultery was a get out of jail free card for men in Italy as well as several South American countries. Killing your wife over an affair with no legal repercussions in lieu of divorce was such a common and well known method of dealing with a female spouse that I recall a movie, a comedy, being made about it many years ago. The RCC influence in Italy and South America had nothing to do with this though I’m sure.
