Republican Governors Association Ordered To Pay Former Texas Democratic Candidate Two Million Dollars

Travis County Judge John Dietz has issued a rare order to the Republican Governors Association to pay Chris Bell, the 2006 Democratic gubernatorial candidate, $2 million because of flagrant campaign contribution violations to support Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Dietz found that the RGA failed to disclose its $1 million donation to Texans for Rick Perry, including a $500,000 check from Houston builder Bob Perry during the election. Perry settled with Bell for $426,000 last year.

The RGA has promised to appeal and insists that it followed an accepted interpretation of the rules.

    Blouise,

Good Morning to you. When I worked for the AG I was in and out of TC a lot. There appears to be a different standard of Justice there. Now across the street and near to the State House sits the Sct..they have the best Justice money can buy…….I expect it to be reversed if the award is upheld on appeal.

I just read an article about Michigan Campaign Laws a Federal Judge in the Western District up held the campaign finance limitation laws….a Federal Judge…in conservative West Michigan. The home of the DeVos and the American Way Corporation… aka AmWay……

Given the composition of the TX Sup Ct (all elected by the Texas voters, increasingly a collection of right wing nuts), this will no doubt be reversed.

AmWay … Jerry Ford’e old buddies … he took care of them real good!

I suppose the Texas republicans could run away to another state if the appeal goes against them.

Honestly AY, how are two sane people such as we supposed to maintain our dignity when surrounded by such fools?!

Well, when it goes all the way up to the all-Republican Supreme Court of Texas, we know what will happen.

It feels pretty good to see someone who has broken the law to have a penalty to pay for that illegal activity. I wonder if President Obama read this article!

If he did read it, I wonder if he understood it.
