Birth Before Booking: Ohio Woman Arrested After Trying To Steal From Walmart While In Labor

In Alliance, Ohio, Katurah L. Petty reached a level of fame or infamy among officers by allegedly stealing computer software from a Walmart while in labor. The Labor Day specials were long expired, so she was taken to jail after a visit to the hospital. Accounts differs as to whether she actually gave birth or was feigning labor.

Arrested with Katurah was her sister Staniel A. Petty. Both were charged with theft and forgery.

The police later found scanned manufacturer tags that the sisters would allegedly put on stolen electronics. This report says Katurah Petty lacked being in labor while this article says she was in labor.

She was taken directly to a hospital for the birth before booking.

  1. It just dawned on me….She is going to get great medical care…if she is in the custody of the city, county or any municipality…they have to pay for the cost of hospital confinement….now that take creative planning…but may be she just had dumb luck….

  2. I did not know that shoplifting was permissible for pregnant women on Labor Day.
