American Woman Charged in England After Hanging and Burning “Devil Dog”

Dogs routinely shock their owners by eating everything from documents to dolls. (My dog Molly prefers to eat socks). However, when an one-year-old pit bull named Diamond eat a Bible in England, Miriam Smith, 65, decided to take action. She hanged Diamond with an electrical cord and burned its body.

Diamond actually belonged to Smith’s nephew and was left with her as he traveled.

She appears not to have told him and he assumed that she had run away until an environmental enforcement officer found the dog’s burned body hidden under a mound of grass.

She is now charged with ill treatment of animals and torture, according to an arrest warrant. The range of sentencing goes from 180 days to five years in prison.

It will be interesting if the religious defense has equal success in killing dogs as it has for killing children. As noted in an earlier column, parents are routinely given shorter sentences when they cause the death due to religious principles.

I am leaning for the full five years for this animal abuser. It wasn’t even her dog! When will society actually put these felons away for a long time when they purposely torture and kill defenseless animals?

Don’t blame the Bible for it.

    Proverbs 12:10

(A)righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.

    Animal cruelty is condemned.

I want to know if the David Berkowitz knows this woman had his neighbor’s dog.

And not just “yes” but “Hell yes” to the psych evaluation.

This woman is out of her mind.

    Buddha,

What’s that old line about if think the Devil’s talking to you, you’re crazy, but if you think God does, you’re holy?

    Gyges,

Well of course that’s the saying.

God has a much better funded PR department.

While I was about to comment on the David Berkowitz angle of this story, (good catch Buddha), it must be the sybarite/Homer Simpson within me that recalled how tasty frozen “devil dogs” are.

    Homer: “Mmm…frozen devil dogs…”

It is the righteous thing to do, if you spare an animal from this type of abomination you have destroyed the very underpinning of the relevance of the word of the one that is. Please do not just judge this woman based upon your conceived notions of good and evil. Know the lord as you do your wallet. Know the Lord and know peace. I have been instructed to ask you to please visit us when we and our supporters come to your town.

Let us rejoice in every way of the of the Lord for the earth has been blessed. You shall be as well. Let us pray in his name who came.

    Chris.

Totally off-topic, but thought I’d post it in the most recent entry. Those of you who know me from way-back I especially encourage to chime in.

I was wondering about the law with regard to recording a conversation. If you are on the phone with a company that states, “This call may be recorded for quality assurance” (or something along those lines) does that not also give the right to the caller to also record the call?

BTW I’m against hanging and burning dogs. That blows.

    But back to my question.

If a company states on the phone that they “may” record the call, then may I not record it as well since our henceforth conversation implies agreement that the conversation may be recorded?

Do I need to state that it is recorded from my end as well or is it not already acceptable from thereon that both parties agree that the conversation may be recorded?

    Any thoughts?

    Or maybe not:

“When the people heard the sound of the horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the city from every side and captured it. They completely destroyed everything in it – men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, donkeys – everything.” [emphasis - and disgust - mine]

Do you ever read this book, by the way?

Reading it would interfere with eating it, mespo.

Dating or being married to an American woman is like driving a beat-up Ford Escort. If you are only used to driving a beat-up Ford Escort, then you have no idea what it feels like when you drive a Bentley or Ferrari. You need to at least test-drive a Ferrari, so you’ll have a reference point on what a real car feels like. ”
