HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Happy Halloween to all of the ghostly regulars of the Turley Blog! Despite the theory that Halloween is just a cry for help from my rotting soul, I love this holiday and the house is covered with our annual display of skeletons, webs, and spooky items.

We are also planning our annual Pumpkin Smash at the Turley house for next Saturday, where the kids wake the Turley Troll at the top of the house and he throws down pumpkins until he runs out and throws down candy.

The kids are going as a Little Devil, Death, Wicked Jester, and Benjamin has made his own costume to go as his representation of Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of the dead. The scariest thing is trying to pronounce Mictlantecuhtli, but with the exception of running into an ancient Aztec, we are probably safe on pronunciation.

Have a great and safe Halloween!

    eniobob,

My sympathies. We were supposed to have rain but I put on my witches hat, stirred the cauldron, and sent it all to you.

This picture has been photoshopped! JT, shame on your desecration of Halloween. Those pumpkins are intact. Where are the raccoon ravaged pumpkins?

Happy Halloween, the best holiday EVER!

I’ll be having an especially happy Halloween this year. Because of the snowstorm this past weekend, my daughter and son-in-law lost electrical power. They and my little granddaughter Julia Anna have been staying with us. My husband and I are really enjoying having them here as house guests.

It’s been a strange autumn around these parts. Most of the leaves are still green and haven’t fallen from the trees yet–and there’s snow on the ground! This is definitely not typical.

    Elaine and all,
Happy Halloween! I spent the weekend babay sitting for our grandsons and it was a glorious weekend. I am glad that the snow has not started to fly here…yet!

Happy Halloween! I have lots of kids in my neighborhood and will have about 150 trick or treaters. Headed to Austin tomorrow for a visit where it has looked like winter since August because of the drought.

    Happy Halloween!

I’d like to have this dog going with me to trick-or-treat (if I went trick-or-treating).

Dog groomer goes all zombie themed with excellent results! :

Have a frightful Halloween everyone, dry and warm at the end of the night!

    Oíche Shamhna Shona!

I must also say that I admire young Benjamin’s taste in costumes. It is ambitious, creative and appropriate. Putting the image of Mictlantecuhtli to use in the harvesting of candy is much more honorable than putting it to use in the harvesting of the still beating hearts of your vanquished enemies.

    Quite a bit tastier too.

I do hope you plan on posting pictures of the Turley Horde of Candy Scavengers, JT.

I’m sure they are going to be an adorably scary bunch.

There are heart shaped molds that might have come in handy for Benjamin/Mictlantecuhtli:

Perhaps the Turleys would enjoy building a trebuchet as a method of pumpkin dispatch

Pete, my katz would have to be sedated. Upon reflection, with enough nitrous to go around I too could be airbrushed as a skeleton…. :-)

I hope all had a great All Hallowed Eve….now the work begins…..

All Saints’ Day (in the Roman Catholic Church officially the Solemnity of All Saints and also called All Hallows or Hallowmas), often shortened to All Saints, is a solemnity celebrated on 1 November by parts of Western Christianity, and on the first Sunday after Pentecost in Eastern Christianity, in honour of all the saints, known and unknown.

    In the precursor…..

All Souls’ Day commemorates the faithful departed. In Western Christianity, this day is observed principally in the Catholic Church, although some churches of the Anglican Communion and the Old Catholic Churches also celebrate it. The Eastern Orthodox churches observe several All Souls’ Days during the year. The Roman Catholic celebration is associated with the doctrine that the souls of the faithful who at death have not been cleansed from the temporal punishment due to venial sins and from attachment to mortal sins cannot immediately attain the beatific vision in heaven, and that they may be helped to do so by prayer and by the sacrifice of the Mass
