“40-Year-Old” Virgin Actor Sentenced To Life In Prison For Stabbing of Girlfriend

We have seen a number of cases (here and here) involving stars going to prison for life in inexplicable falls from celebrity status. Shelley Malil will now be added to that rogue’s gallery of fallen stars. The actor appeared in movies like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” but has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Malil, 45, stabbed his girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, 20 times after finding her having a glass of wine with a man at her home.

While convicted of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon, San Diego County Superior Court Judge Harry Elias noted that this life sentence could be served in as little as nine years if released for good behavior.

Malil met Beebe through an on-line dating service. They had a rocky relationship as illustrated by the reason for his unannounced visit that day. He came to apologize for taking some of her belongings and to tell her that he had sent sexually explicit photos of the couple to her co-workers. In finding her drinking with a man, he grabbed a kitchen knife and proceeded to repeatedly stab her. However, his lawyer insisted that, while stabbing her 20 times, he really did not want to kill her. I would hate to see what he does with murder in mind.

The jury spent less than four hours to convict the actor.

It will be interesting to see if Beebe now sues civilly for the disclosure of the photos. The case would seem to establish an impressive array of torts, including but not limited to intentional infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and disclosure of embarrassing private facts.

She needs a different online dating service. She would be better off w/ the Meet a San Quentin Inmate Service or Charles Manson’s Christian Couples Online.

Methinks there is the aroma of the abusive/controlling male in this story. Most of them start out as seemingly the “perfect” companion and later morph into the scary jailer.

Just got to love indeterminate sentencing states. 40 years to life means 9 years. That’s why we got rid of it here back in the early 80′s.

This illusion actor celebrities are royals / gods is no better. Most are parvenu anyway.

Talk about jumping to conclusions. He wants too have her wanting trying to kill her. That is a contradictory action. Don’t people know there is a final judgment to survive Gods light or not getting what a person gave ? OH,.. yea,.. thats right,…religions don’t teach that. Repenting is not on their priority list. Fearing to harm others is not on their priority list to teach people either.

And what did her new Prince Charming do while she was being assaulted?

Attempted murder sounds right, but “premeditated” attempted murder? It sure doesn’t sound like he gave this a whole lot of rational thought.
