Great America has been criticized in a state agency for violating the “10/20 Rule”: after allowing 4-year-old Carlos Flores to float on the surface of the Great Barrier Reef Wave Pool for 39 seconds. With the approaching summer, such negligent rescue cases arise with disturbing regularity.
The standard for lifeguards in such locations is that a lifeguard who spots someone in trouble needs to respond in 10 second and reach the person in 20 seconds. In this case, it was 39 second before Flores was reached and it was too late. Great America was also cited by a state agency for having lifeguards stand for as much as two hours rather than the standard one hour.
The guards in these large pool facilities are trained on this rule. On a visit to the Great Wolf Lodge recently with the kids, I watched as a manager secretly throw a plastic baby in various pools to test the timing of his lifeguards.

In Florida, a different type of negligence has been alleged. In that case, Paul Peters, 50, drowned in front of lifeguards in the Daytona Beach Shores after he was mistaken for an exercising lifeguard. A witness called on the lifeguards to help Peters but another lifeguard yelled back, “That’s one of our own.” He wasn’t and by the time they realized their mistake, that small window had closed.

I recently visited the park and was falsely acused of shoplifting. I was treated horrorably detained against my will and was force to sign a paper stating that my intention were to steal the item before they would released me. I was force to leave the park and told if I come back this season I would be arrested for trespassing. Even after my explanation for the misunderstanding on their part they still proceeded to treat as a criminal and due to all the stress of this event I ended up in the emergency room with chest pains only to find out it was related to the horrable experience. So where do you think that they had the right to treat me this way? I know they have there policy but when you take it beyound the limits They violate our civil rights. I believe Great American need to be held accountable for hiring young adults that want to play cops and dont respect our rights and dont take their jobs seriously. There so much more to this story but I would clog this page. Dont be so quick to judge those that are trying to protect thier rights.

I apologize if my adamance on this topic led you to anger. It was not my intention. I have no illusions of convincing you of what I believe. I ask simply that you consider the arguments fairly. You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations

When you lose a loved one, suffering a debilitating injury, or lose your livelihood through someone’s else’s negligence, write me again with your magnanimity. I suspect like everyone else who suffers these calamities you might feel the other person owes you something.
It’s awfully easy to wax philosophical when it happens to the other guy, or is a meaningless inconvenience to the victim. Maybe the death of little Carlos is a “sh*t happens” event to you, but I suspect his family feels otherwise. Being without compassion and being judgmental is a tight box to put yourself in, why don’t you try something else for a change.
By the way, I realize too that “people make mistakes”, but you forgot the corollary: “they will continue to do so if there are no consequences.”
Mespo; jerk, I have had four instances in my short life already where I could have sued, was being urged to sue, and didn’t for the simple reason: I UNDERSTAND PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES.

I think Niblet has it right. No one should be accountable for anything, and as we all know, stuff just happens. Why should we expect lifeguards to guard; police to protect; doctors to act within any standard of care; or drivers to follow the traffic laws. What we need is more business since we know that businesses aren’t there to get rich like those nasty lawyers; they are simply there to help people and support Republican candidates. And as for making safe products, hell, “life mistakes happen” and we should just be glad that they are kind enough to take our money and provide low paying jobs for people in developing third world countries. Billionaire stockholders need love too. I don’t know what all this fuss is about. I say we elect Niblet king, and let him straighten this Country out. Oops, we tried that already and George, III, was just as mad.
DAMN THOSE LIFE MISTAKES.
We need to write a law and then sue anytime anyone anywhere makes one and then allow attorneys to get rich suing anybody anytime anyplace for anything that goes wrong.
Only then will equality rule, mistakes be erased from humanity, and life is once again fair and impartial……..
