I Didn’t Apologize and You Can’t Make Me: White House Denies that Bush Apologized about Use of Quran for Target Practice

The White House is directly contradicting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki who told Iraqis that President George Bush had apologized for the use of the Quran for target practice. While the distinction may be lost on many between “deep concern” and an “apology,” it will not likely be lost on the Iraqis who are likely to see the distinction as an added insult.

An American staff sergeant and sniper team leader caused the uproar, click — a sniper section leader — used a Quran for target practice earlier this month, click here.

The Iraqis are clearly not familiar with the Bush Administration’s new guideline for post-atrocity responses.

The official grades of responses are as follows:

Torture programs with dog leashes and humiliation — denial followed by prosecution — Expression of REGRET

Invasion of a country based on false intelligence — denial followed by new rationale — Expression of FRUSTRATION

Use of Holy Book for target practice — prosecution — Expression of CONCERN

Loss of thousands of lives in unpopular war — give up golf — Expression of SOLIDARITY

Unlawful surveillance program — denial followed by strident defense — Expression of PRIDE

  1. Mespo,

That quote certainly would explain why bush won’t apologize! No fundamental principles or values in sight there (unless you call complete rapacious power mongering a value, which I guess he does). ARRGGGG

  2. Jill:

You’ve got it right, and his failure to apologize is certainly revealing of his character.

“It takes a great deal of character strength to apologize quickly out of one’s heart rather than out of pity. A person must possess himself and have a deep sense of security in fundamental principles and values in order to genuinely apologize.”

Somewhere in all that invective and profanity is a point and I will commit myself to finding it.

    Well you left out one:

Leadership of a superpower into alienation from its allies, economic recession, nadir of military power, and general stupor — Response: “never saw it coming” — Expression: “duh”!

  5. Should of shot more of those fucking books and whiped them into a real frenzy. I can’t believe these people you do ANYTHING to them and they piss and moan. I mean ANYTHING, say or DO anything against THIER religon and they flip out out burning and savaging anything and everything in sight, why I ASK you WHY should we as american people even give a shit? No matter what happens it only gets worst, people are dying for WHAT, for WHO and WHY? For my FReedom, I think not, more like for oil every single country out there is well on their way to being rid of oil except for the USA. We are WHORES for oil anybody who has MUST give it to us or we go to war fuck up our economy and go into rescession for the glory. We haven’t ever learned our lesson time and again we the USA do this same shit and it never works.

  6. Bush is one of the most dishonorable people in this nation. He had yet another chance to do something right in Iraq and once again, failed miserably. He should use his position to diffuse a bad situation. This would protect our soldiers and offer a tiny crack of good will in an otherwise appalling course of actions. There is no reason for him not to apologize. Just as he will not approve adequate funding for our troops upon their return, he will not take the small step of admitting to an apology to protect our troops from hostile action because of this shooting. This is one more example of just how little he cares about our troops or the people of a country we occupy. I guess he thought the lie about golfing would do the trick.
