Honor Killing: Father and Brother in Germany Kill Woman After Learning That She Is Not a Virgin

We have yet another “honor killing.” In Germany, a Kurdish man, 50, was sentenced to ordering the murder of his own daughter after learning that the 20-year-old woman named Gulsum Semin was no longer a virgin. He reportedly preferred a dead daughter and convinced his son to murder his own sister.

The son and a friend reportedly lured Gulsum to a country road near the Dutch border and then strangled her and beat her to death. Remarkably, Gulsum’s brother, 20, was given only nine and a half years in youth prison — one year less than the maximum youth sentence of 10 years. He confessed to the crime. His friend received only seven years.

The father of ten denied that he conspired with his son to kill his daughter.

  1. I AM SO THANKFUL I AM CHRISTIAN WHICH TEACHES LOVE AND FORGIVNESS

HONOR KILLING IS A GREAT SIN AND WILL NEVER GO TO HEAVEN WITH THAT CRIME UNLESS GOD FORGIVES

BUT I BELIEVE WHEN LIVING IN ANY COUNTRY THAT DOES NOT OBSERVE HONOR KILLINGS. THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE THROUGHLY PUNISHED FOR THEIR CRIMES.

THERE IS NO HONOR IN ANY TYPE OF KILLING. TO KILL THEIR OWN CHILD IS A DISGUSTING AND HORRIBLE CRIME IN ANY COUNTRY

  2. What bothers me is terrorists who live years in western countries seem not to be assimilating their values. Killing others because they are “offensive” should clearly be against our values and not ascribed to cultural insensitivity followed by a lecture “While I personally don’t encourage my family to suicide bomb, you must understand…(here insert your favorite anti-western cliche.)”

  3. Bdaman, her name was Gülsüm, so if you insist on making jokes about the poor womans name, at least mention some metal bands.

lottakatz, yes it is satisfying that the driving force behind the murder has received the maximum penalty.

  4. From blog posting: “Remarkably, Gulsum’s brother, 20, was given only nine and a half years in youth prison …”

Thankfully the father was given life in prison. His other daughter’s might be safe.

  5. Jill:
I wish that I had been forewarned before I was starting to drink my bottle of water while reading your above post.

  6. rafflaw and Buddha, agreed! rafflaw, it is nice to see you able to post in the daylight. Are you wearing the day cream for vampires or is it something more insidious…like getting some time off work!

  7. How evil must you be to kill your own daughter or sister? I would have loved to learn if the son was a virgin. Once again, another life is lost due to religous beliefs.
    Buddha,
I would grade that troll at a F-. He/she has never met a fact that he/she can’t ignore.

  8. “To steal a life because you were “offended” by how someone else lives theirs?” Seems to be happening right here in the U.S., in other ways. Reprehensible and evil no matter what form it takes.

  9. Honor.

    Killing.

There is no honor in killing.

The honor comes from defending others.

Killing is a brutal, wasteful act of selfishness and should only be done in defense and as a last measure.

To steal a life because you were “offended” by how someone else lives theirs?

    Pure ego-worshipping evil.

  10. Well just like a Neocon troll, I see you’ve also decided to grade yourself. On a curve so steep as to be laughable. You truly are the child of your masters.

  11. Oh well, I guess like the president I’ll give myself a B+ and disregard what you actually think.

  12. Ay,Ay,Ay why the hate bro, it was an attempt at sick humor.
As in her name, why don’t you do the same.

    Guzzle sum ?

  13. Bdaman,

Just like Karl and your other brother Dick. Just because you can say it louder and more often than anyone else, does not mean you are correct. So you have a problem with a Turkish name for a female of Gulsum?

I believe that there is a female boxer who is from Turkey with the same name about 2004 if I recall.

  14. Iron Age thinking from Iron Age religions. Buddha may be right about the de-evolution thing.
