Single Room Occupancy: Dead Body Found In Bed Frame At Motel

The Budget Lodge motel could face some interesting lawsuits after the body of Sony Millbrook, 28, was found in the bed frame in a room that the hotel rented out to other guests. Millbrook, the mother of five, has been missing since January.

After Millbrook failed to pay her bills, the motel rented out the room to other guests who could now presumably sue for negligence and the negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The room had been cleaned repeatedly despite complaints about the smell. The body had been stuffed into the metal box frame.

While hotels recently advertised live bed warmers here), the liability for such acts of negligence can be quite high given the potential for punitive damages. This makes the Bates Motel look like a good alternative for travelers.

Millbrook’s boyfriend Lakeith Moody has been named a person of interest, here. While the cleaning of the room can prove a problem, usually some forensic evidence will remain even after such a cleaning in a criminal case.

  1. Iron beds are beds in which the headboard and footboard are made of iron; the frame rails are usually made of steel. Iron beds were developed in 17th century Italy to address concerns about infestation by bed bugs and moths. An iron cradle (with dangerously pointed corner posts) has been dated to 1620-1640.[4] From the start of their production in the 1850s until World War I, iron beds were handmade. The manufacturing process included hand pouring and polishing intricately detailed casting and hand applying finishes. In the many small foundries of the time that employed only a handful of employees, it could take days to produce a single bed. ”

  2. There is no way the staff could have “cleaned” the room enough to get rid of the smell of a decomposing body. Something smells fishy!

  3. This would explain why your chewing gum loses its flavor on the bedpost overnight.

  4. How does one not recognize the smell of death for what it is?

    In re: Walmart

I don’t go to Wal-Mart, but I’d have like to have been there for that. I sense a management change. Possibly a store closing.

“Attention Wal-Mart shoppers. It’s time to spend you money any place but here.”

  5. Black people must leave, NJ Walmart announcer says

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A Walmart store announcement ordering black people to leave brought chagrin and apologies Wednesday from leaders of the company, which has built a fragile trust among minority communities.

A male voice came over the public-address system Sunday evening at a store in Washington Township, in southern New Jersey, and calmly announced: “Attention, Walmart customers: All black people, leave the store now.”

  6. This happened to a friend/client of mine in Vegas. For some reason they were compened the entire trip and given money to come back with assurances that they would be taken care of so long as it was owned by them…..They took them up on the offer.
Their last name ended in in an I.
