Murderer Arrested After 38 Years On the Lam — Running a Wedding Chapel

Police have been looking for Frank Dryman for 38 years — a hitchhiker accused of murdering a man who picked him up during a blizzard. They found him last week running a wedding chapel in Arizona.

Clarence Pellett stopped to pick up Dryman in 1951 during a spring blizzard near Shelby, Montana and was shot seven times in the back as he tried to flee. Pellett ran a cafe.

Dryman, 78, had adopted the name Victor Houston and is waiting extradition.

He was given a sentence to be hanged in 1955. However, in 1969, after 15 years in prison, he was given parole and fled.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said that arrest shows that fugitives “can run from the law, but with perseverance and good investigative work, we almost always find them in the end.” However, it does not appear to have been the police but rather the Pellet family that found Dryman. They hired a private investigator who traced Dryman to the Cactus Rose Wedding Chapel, here. They then called police.

I could only find one review of the chapel itself from Ann P:

“This is a nice little wedding chapel. My brother got married here. It is cutely decorated with out being overly cheesy. They can provide someone to do the ceremony and are reasonably priced.”

Well, he certainly knows a thing or two about “till death do us part.”

  1. “The capture of the Unibomber made me realize that the FBI can find and apprehend anyone, anywhere… as long as the criminal’s brother tells them his name and exact location.”

–and repeatedly begs them to arrest the guy.

  2. Mark,

Even if on parole he can be charged with escape of legal custody in this case prison escape. Which in some states can be as long as the original sentence. Some of the officers I know would look at this as an opportunity to seen if they can still hit the MX.

How about you putting a sock in it, Sheriff Didn’t Do A Damn Thing To Aid This Investigation. Taking credit for a job you didn’t do is simply punk ass behavior.

  5. I had posted this earlier, and now they say that since no bodys were recovered the DA may have a hard time with this case.

The reason being they say is a the time there was no sophisticated science to determine if there were remains there and also “nonchalance” played a big factor.

Only showing how time never hides a crime.:
