Happy Mother’s Day From Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck had some warm words not only for his advertisers but mothers everywhere this week. When Beck broke off from this radio show to plug his sponsor — Teddy Bear Co. — he not only panned the company’s Mother’s Day products but Mother’s Day in general.

Beck started by saying “Our sponsor this half hour is the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. Vermont Teddy Bear is getting ready for Mother’s Day weekend….” He then takes an unexpected turn:

“Mother’s Day, it’s a scam. It’s a big business scam…. Started 1914. Woodrow Wilson. Hate that guy. Love my mom. Hate the holiday…. But there’s something new from Vermont Teddy Bear. Three handmade teddy bears in pink, green and white. The bears are scented, each one with a different scent: strawberry, watermelon and cupcake. It’s like a bouquet of flowers, only it’s a bear bouquet for life. Call 1-800-829-BEAR or go to VermontTeddyBear.com, VermontTeddyBear.com. Something new for mom this year to let her that you love her and you’re thinking about her. The bear bouquet. From Vermont Teddy Bear. Delivery before Mother’s Day is guaranteed.”

Who hates Woodrow Wilson? I understand isolationists not liking the League of Nations and tea party members may not like the Federal Trade Commission or his creation of the federal progressive income tax . . . but you hate him? He was a well-meaning geek with a genius IQ. What’s to hate?

And then there is the Mother’s Day thing. It is actually traced back to ancient Greece, and the festival in honor of Cybele.

In the United State, it was Julia Ward Howe who was the champion for a holiday. Now, no one is suggesting it is the equal of the big holidays like Thanksgiving or Father’s Day, but still “you hate Mother’s Day?” Beck’s Mommy (Day) issues are crying out for an intervention.

  1. jct…I am publicly educated, and subsequently put myself through a public college…I’ve passed out thousands of dvds on such things and a half million newspapers as well…(http://thelibertyvoice.com)

just because we’re not discussing your hot topic d’ jour when Wilson gets brought up on a tangent doesn’t mean we’re ignorant of the Fed… We’re discussing Glenn Beck and mother’s day…on Jonathan Turley’s website for goodness sake.

Please don’t attack what may be your friends in the struggle…after all, there’s no justice–Just US.

  2. You people must be public school educated. Do you know nothing of Woodrow Wilson and Col Edward House ? You do know that the Federal Reserve is a private corporation and Wilson addmitted his role in the scam Here is Wilsons Quote: “I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country.
A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit.
Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation,
therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men.
We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely
controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world.
No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by
conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by
the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.

  3. Queen of Sheba:

I don’t know what planet you are on but Beck’s ratings are better than anyone over at MSNBC. His series on the founding fathers is accurate. Liberals don’t want to learn about the Constitution era because their ideology and outlook for America is not what they want. I know the constitution can be changed to meet the demands of those living now and forever but I am sure glad God never changed his 10 commandments to fit the culture as it has changed. Beck upholds the constitution and those of us who believe in it strongly, had we been in charge, there would be no government debt. Governments job is to provide the access for success not provide success.

  4. It strikes me that Beck’s book title gives a bad name to those who talk to themselves. Unlike in his case, not all of them are idiots.

  5. TomD.Arch…

Of course, you’re right, he didn’t explain that the original intent was his reason for opposing the holiday, but even Wilson’s original proclamation “as a day for American citizens to show the flag in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war” was different from the way it is observed today…I have to think that a guy like Beck who has testosterone boiling out of every word he speaks had to really hate promoting teddy bears…thus hated the holiday which prompted the occasion of him selling “something new from Vermont Teddy Bear. Three handmade teddy bears in pink, green and white. The bears are scented, each one with a different scent: strawberry, watermelon and cupcake. It’s like a bouquet of flowers, only it’s a bear bouquet for life…” What will his sponsors make him do next, wear a pink tie–embroidered with Strawberry Shortcake? That would be tough…but of course Beck couldn’t take it out on his sponsor, so the nearest targets to take out his frustrations were dear ol’ mom (too sweet to fight back)…and Wilson (dead).

  6. Beck didn’t explicitly explain that his opposition to Mothers Day comes from its original intent as an anti-war observance in the aftermath of the US Civil War? I mean, I have to assume that’s his problem. You have to remember that while Beckistan thankfully has Miranda rights, it’s all about promoting social injustice.

  7. He is an idiot to be sure, but … I really hate saying this…but he might have (a bit) of a point…Mother’s day as we celebrate it now is way off of what Julia Ward Howe and others intended.

    I wrote a bit about it here…http://www.thelibertyvoice.com/its-time-to-take-mothers-day-back

  8. I suspect the voice in Mama Beck’s head is screaming, “WHY DIDN’T YOU ABORT WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE?!”

  9. a Teddy Bear Co. using Glen Beck as a sponsor makes as much sense as Vodka touting for Mothers’ Day.
    How creepy can you get…

  10. johneboy is exactly right. And liberals, of all people, should hate him the most. He was a war mongering, racist, authoritarian. It’s all very, very well documented.

  11. Although Wilson can be remembered for some good things he achieved during his terms like setting up the FTC (and the Clayton anti-trust Act), making loans easily available to farmers, and allowing unions to prosper (in a time when they were very much needed), one can also say that some of his policies could be considered quite dictatorial. Let’s not forget that it was Wilson who gave us forced conscription into the military during WW1(the draft), the income tax, was a promoter of racial segregation, and let’s not over look the Espionage and Sedition Acts which all but squelched freedom of speech and the press in this country for the duration of the war.

Sure, Beck is a dry-drunk on a level with Bush 43, and has the IQ equivalent of my shoe size; but putting that aside , one can easily find a great many reasons to dislike – and even hate – our 28th president (brilliant though he may have been, AY)

  12. Obviously Beck was a degenerate drunk for far too long. He never recovered from the damage. Worse, there are a large audience of fools who follow his blatherings. Couple good things: his ratings are following and he’s lost most of his sponsors. Hallelujah! and Happy Mother’s Day!

  13. Glenn Beck continues to be the poster child for the damage untreated mental illness can cause.

  14. Maybe he and Rush are on the same prescription diet. WW was a smart president that saw potentials into the future and the repercussions of harm tomorrow for acts of today. He defeated Taft with the assistance of TRR unintended or not. The depression of 29 was staved off under WW. As the professor said he was brilliant. A visionary of his time.

    adj.
    1. Utterly stupid or silly: asinine behavior.
    2. Of, relating to, or resembling an ass”
