In this clip, former Governor and Fox News anchor Mike Huckabee has a matter-of-fact conversation with Moral Majority co-founder Tim LaHaye on whether “we are living in the end times.” LaHaye explains that Obama is pushing us “closer to the apocalypse”
It is the advent of apocalyptic politics — a movement that threatens to eventually devour itself. This casual conversation about the end of times masks a deeper psychosis where leaders seek to harness unhinged religious fervor for political purposes. This type of segment is no longer a bizarre comedy or distraction, but a truly frightening trend in both news and politics.
Two things:
1. When the Apocalypse occurs I want LeHaye’s money.
2. Bill, point me to the sources where President Obama ever said that he was working for minorities and poor people. I must have missed that part because he is the President of these United States and is working for all of us and has never said otherwise.
I believe in Christ and in His Second Coming. I also believe:
a) That I have no idea when it will be, and in fact that we are unlikely to see it coming.
b) That it has been 2000 years already, which indicates it could well be another 2000 years (or tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions, via Big Crunch…)
c) That therefore I am more likely to die of some mundane method on any given day, or at all, than be raptured on the same day or at all.
d) That even if it IS tomorrow, this would not change a thing about my behavior today, because it is in God’s timing and I cannot stop it, slow it down, or make it come faster.
That last one in particular is why I have no idea why I should CARE what effect Obama has on the apocalypse. It will happen when God wants it to.
And if I need to be motivated to do good deeds, share God’s word, seek forgiveness for my sins, it might as well be because I could be hit by a car leaving the office today. Or just because these are good things to do. I don’t need an imminent Second Coming to get me there.
So, to summarize, it is possible to have a reasonable conversation about Obama’s policies without invoking the Second Coming. Or vice versa. (Unfortunately, that doesn’t get as much ratings.)

Yissil, Thanks, a great link and story. While I enjoyed reading Lovecraft I can’t help think the bad rep he gave the Old Ones had to do with the peculiar distortions of Laudanum as much as the actual proclivities of the Old Ones themselves. He did get some of things right though:

Swarthmore mom, Schlafly was the reason I always looked at Al Gore’s political potential with trepidation. Tipper Gore and Phyllis Schlafly seemed to be BFF in the mid-80’s. Tipper, Pam Hower, Sally Nevius, and Susan Baker (wife of our now ex-Secretary of State, James Baker) formed the PARENTS MUSIC RESOURCE CENTER, the PMRC, in response to raw record lyrics and managed to get a Congressional hearing on the issue. They are why albums, and other music media have those little rating labels on them now.
Ms. Schlafly and Tipper appeared together many times to argue for the policing of music lyrics and legal oversight thereof. The Eagle Forum which Ms. Schalfly founded supported PMRC totally on the issue. EF is also IMO the mother of all anti-feminist, anti-abortion, anti-artistic freedom (1st Amendment) political lobby’s. Susan Baker above is James Baker’s wife. There was a lot of heavyweight political juice between the Eagle forum and PMRC during the 80’s when the founder’s husband’s were in positions of power.
The kids make a pretty good beer though. Suspecting that beer is a better carrier than kool-aid for the mind altering substances required to become a delusional EFzombie I don’t drink it. Purity of the precious bodily fluids and all that… 🙂

I don’t believe them about anything because everything they say is geared toward their perpetual war and destroy the middle class agendas.
The Prof himself may be a great guy. But he also works for the world’s number one assholes in my book. He could say “the sky is blue” and I’d wonder what his and/or his bosses angle was.

Byron, the problem with Ms. Schlafly is unrelated to statistics on unwed mothers. She was expressing an attitude of contempt based upon her belief that Democrats actively encourage people to bear children out of wedlock for political reasons. She made no sense 35 years ago, and age has not favored her with wisdom.
