The Montana Republican Party has adopted its official platform, which contains a standout provision: a call to criminalize homosexuality.
The party has long demanded the criminalization of homosexuality but its decision to retain the policy has been something of a shocker, including for some Republicans.
The GOP retained the policy despite the fact that the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.

I really don’t get it–the anti-gay movement is really worried about the homosexual destroying the West. These same men claim to be repulsed by man on man contact so how could they, or anyone else of the same mind set, be recruited and seduced into either the gay lifestyle or gay sex? They handle homosexuality as a condition that will somehow spread so does this mean they worry that they, their friend, or their sons might somehow be gay? The message here seems to be repress at all costs mixed with an utter lack of imagination summed up with a don’t ask, don’t tell mentality. iut seems pretty clear that the men who head up anti-gay movements must have been seriously tempted at one point and this is their frantic reaction.
Scalia’s latest brilliant analysis of the 14th Amendment doesn’t bode well for a decision upholding the illegality of Prop 8.

U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) said Wednesday that a derogatory slur left on an Internet discussion over the rights of gays to serve in the U.S. military appears to have originated from his office.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported on the message in question on Tuesday evening:
The comment was posted on Joe.My.God., a blog dedicated to gay and lesbian issues, shortly after a Democratic bid to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” faltered in the U.S. Senate.
“All [gays] must die,” wrote the commenter, identifying himself as “Jimmy.”
The blog’s readers traced the Internet Protocol address to the suburban Atlanta complex where Chambliss has an office.
When looking at the Montana cowboy, the emphasis is now on cows rather than boys.
There’s pretty much nothing under Scalia’s robe which of course induces the ever expanding void between his ears.

Speaking to a law school audience in San Francisco last Friday, Justice Antonin Scalia expressed some strange views about the Constitution and gender equality:
Scalia also said he doesn’t believe the Constitution bans sex discrimination.
The 14th Amendment, enacted after the Civil War in 1868, guarantees due process and equal protection and in recent years has been interpreted by courts to prohibit sex discrimination as well as racial discrimination.
But Scalia said he believes the amendment doesn’t apply to discrimination against women because that use of the measure was not intended in 1868.
He said he personally opposes bias against women, but said it can be banned by laws rather than reliance on the Constitution.
“If the current society wants to outlaw sex discrimination, hey, we have legislatures,” Scalia said.
Scalia’s odd stance on gender equality is nothing new. In a 1996 Supreme Court decision limiting gender discrimination in Virginia’s higher education system, he cast the sole dissenting vote in favor of allowing the state to continue to deny educational opportunities to women (Justice Thomas was recused from the case).
