Introducing Our New Guest Bloggers

I am happy to report we will be implementing another one of your suggestions for improving the blog. Various people suggested a year ago that we have guest blogging to allow regulars a chance to make entries on the blog. With my upcoming speech in France, I thought it would be a great time to try this out for a week from October 31st to November 6th. I have selected three of our best known and most respected regulars: David Drumm (aka Nal), Elaine Magliaro (aka Elaine M) and Mark Esposito (aka Mespo). They will be blogging every day for that week (including on November 7th if they have any material left). They will be signing their entries and will have the full run of the blog. I am very grateful to them and I am very excited to see their work in the coming week.

Unfortunately, I could not include all of our regulars and there are a number of you that I would have liked to add as guest bloggers on this round. However, I thought three was a good number for the coming week. There will be more such opportunities and innovations coming, I assure you.

Until then, congratulations to David, Elaine, and Micheal — and thanks again!

  1. Larry,

    “My point remains proven.”

What point? Lack of response isn’t proof of anything…except that, maybe, people couldn’t be bothered to respond.

  2. My point remains proven. Many responses to me but not ONE refutation of my above post about Lincoln. Not ONE.

  3. Buddha:

Thanks for the Larry/Jim repellant. I’ll put it to good use until to get back to full form.

  4. Larry,

You seem like a nice enough fellow and sometimes you just have to let some things go since none of us wins every argument–especially on opinion-based topics.

I try to live by the words of this soulful song sung by one-time true sweethearts—even they did not *win* at loving one another. Later in life, they both regrettably admitted that the other one was the best love of their lives:

  5. mespo,

During my recent troll attack, W=c noted that I had attracted Klingons. When I told her that my phasers had been set to kill already, she informed me that the type of Klingons she was referring to were best cured with a roll of Charmin. Since good advice is where you find it . . .

I see you’ve attracted Larry again.

    Here’s a roll of Charmin.

(BTW, good job on you, Elaine and Nal. I’ve been busy this week but I have been lurking through the threads when I can and will be back to my abi-normal state soon enough. Real life in meatspace can be so inconvenient.)

  6. Larry,

You wrote to me: “You already read them and yet you say I ‘claim’ I schooled him? Why did he never address my questions with actual refutations? Instead he responded with ad hominem attacks and off topic generalized sermons to me. And Turley LIKES this guy?? If neither of you think I schooled Mespo, then why not re-post my comments and refute them? Hmmmm???”

Hmmmm. Let me think. Okay…here’s my answer: Fuggeddaboutit.

  7. This post was on the Lincoln thread and it was actually addressed to another poster, but Mespo didnt chime in and refute it. Here it is:

    “Thos. Jefferson, Esq said:
“Lincoln offered compensated emancipation to the four border slave states as late as 1862, and they all turned him down flatly.”

The above statement makes absolutely NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. You’re saying that states had FULL rights when it came to compensated emancipation [to turn Lincoln down over it] but they had NO rights when it came to secession?? You’re basically saying that the Southern states could not secede without an invasion of their states and Lincoln killing 250,000 soldiers and thousands more innocent civilians—–BUT when it came to compensated emancipation, the states had FULL POWER to turn Lincoln down and he [Lincoln] just walked away with his tail between his legs like a 10 year old boy who just got his lunch money stolen from bullies and did NOTHING about it??

Why didn’t Lincoln invade those states [in which you say “turned Lincoln down” over compensated emancipation] and capture the slaves and pay the slave owners off to free their slaves?? The BIG reasons he did not do that is because 1.) slavery was constitutional and he vowed “not to disturb slavery” in his first inaugural and 2.) So he could use slavery as the excuse for the war when the REAL reasons was to eliminate states rights by calling the Constitutional issue of secession “treason” and to centralize government

So, you’re saying the great “emancipator” OBEYED the border states’ refusal to free their slaves by way of compensation—–but he completely IGNORED the South’s constitutional right to secede and invaded them and killed a quarter of a million of them, plus thousands more civilians? Why did Lincoln cower and walk away from one group of states and invade a murder hundreds of thousands in another group of states? Why didn’t Lincoln issue an Emancipation Proclamation [which freed no slaves, by the way] the day after being sworn in and avoid a long bloody war if he was so against slavery?”

Got an answer for me Mespo? Or more dodge and deflect/ad hominem attack mode?

  8. “You have a continuing objection to all of my remarks as “dodges and deflections.”

    LOL–because they ARE!! lol

Why didnt you EVER address my questions about Lincoln on that Lincoln/secession story??? Mmmmmm?????????????? If I post questions and remarks, and you ignore them repeatedly but yet still post comments addressed to me where you correspond with me but yet IGNORE the questions/remarks I made about the topic of the story—-I call that 100% “dodging” and “deflecting”. You have another word for it??

    Elaine:

“You could post links to the specific comments you’d like people to read. Speaking for myself, I’d just scroll past all those comments in which you claim to have SCHOOLED mespo if you post them on this thread. I have already read them.”

You already read them and yet you say I “claim” I schooled him? Why did he never address my questions with actual refutations? Instead he responded with ad hominem attacks and off topic generalized sermons to me. And Turley LIKES this guy?? If neither of you think I schooled Mespo, then why not re-post my comments and refute them? Hmmmm???

  9. Larry,

You might just end up embarrassing yourself.

You could post links to the specific comments you’d like people to read. Speaking for myself, I’d just scroll past all those comments in which you claim to have SCHOOLED mespo if you post them on this thread. I have already read them.

  10. Wayne:

“Turning over the asylum to the inmates, eh? Don’t let me down mespo.”

    ***************

Priceless there, Wayne. I will try my utmost even as I struggle under the tutelage of Larry. They say comedy is hard to master, but to our obsessed friend Larry, screeching out his act at all hours of the night like a banshee, it comes quite naturally.

(Note to Larry: You have a continuing objection to all of my remarks as “dodges and deflections.” That way the nurses won’t have to loosen those restraints every time you need to re-type the exact same “excellent” retort.)

  11. FF LEO said:

“If you should revive/re-post those Lincoln thread questions, please do so in the original thread. Thanks.”

Why? Because you know NO ONE will look at it since the thread ended weeks ago? Elaine, why not re-post posts that will embarrass Mespo? Posters on this thread DENIED I schooled him, so isn’t it only fair that I show them where I did?
