Do You Want Alli® With That II: Frisco Bans Toys in Happy Meals

Brazil’s got nothing on San Francisco. Come December 1st, the City by the Bay will be without those nasty Hamburglars and the Avatar avatars. A new city ordinance requires that restaurants meet certain nutritional standards before including toys in the packaging. Ronald is not amused. “We are extremely disappointed with today’s decision. It’s not what our customers want, nor is it something they asked for,” lamented McDonald’s spokeswoman Danya Proud. The ordinance requires that toy-filled treats have “less than 600 calories, contain fruits and vegetables, and include beverages without excessive fat or sugar.” Not exactly something Grandma would frown on, by the way.

The ordinance was prompted because “fifteen percent of American children are overweight or obese — which puts them at risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and cancer, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

“this is just so stupid and what they base it on is even stupider(is that a word?).The toys have nothing to do with the meal. Ramp up the meal -make it more nutritious and leave the dayumm toys alone. ”

One wonders then, why a multi-billion dollar company with scores of marketers and psychologists to whom millions of dollars are paid insists on keeping them in the box and on the tube?

The truly blind are those that will not see.

this world is so goin’ crazy…

  3. “McDonald’s should realize that their customers can’t determine what is best for themselves or they wouldn’t need government to take away incentives for the purchase of Styrofoam burgers.”

I dont remember where in the constitution it authorizes congress or any branch of government to determine what is and isnt proper dietary habits of its citizens. Perhaps after you dislodge your head from your ass you could show where i missed that part.

  5. Puzzling,

Nah the teacher was just boring and insisted on blasting the heater in the winter.

  6. You know what: Happy Meals actually do make children very, very happy. I know Happy Meals are a special treat for my kids. They probably get Happy Meals every other week or so. (And they are perfectly fit, if not a little scrawny.)

This is like the time the Grinch stole Christmas. Thanks, Assholes.

  7. Puzzling,

I’d say there’s a difference between the Federal Government and the City council of San Fransisco.

Of course my high school civics class was right after lunch, so I did tend to nod off sometimes.

  8. So while the federal government loads fats, carbs and sodium into school lunches for grades K-12, heavily subsidizes HFCS in sodas, and provides the vending machines in high school corridors… the government is busy micromanaging how McDonalds promotes their food?
