Arpaio Found To Have Abused Office To Target Critics — Proceeds To Make Steven Seagal a Deputy

An independent prosecutor has found Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas had no basis for their public-corruption charges against critics and judges who sought to curtail their abuse of their offices. Navajo County Attorney Brad Carlyon reached the same conclusion as virtually all outside observers, including this blog. In the meantime, Arpaio continues his use of this office to pander to public sentiments and legitimize vigilantism. He announced this week that he had added “Hulk” star Lou Ferrigno and actor Steven Seagal to his anti-immigration posse.

Thomas proved to be a disgrace to the bar in his blind alliance with Arpaio and abuse of his office. The question is how the bar will deal with him and whether they will act with the commitment shown in the Nifong case. Yet, Thomas has announced the creation of his own law firm virtually at the same time that he was found to have grossly abused his office.

As for Arpaio, he continues his prior use of celebrities and publicity to distract away from his own abuse of the law. Ferrigno and Seagal have previously worked as deputies in other part of the county. Arpaio called them his “national known celebrity crime fighters.” These stars appear undeterred by Arpaio’s past abuses or the current federal investigation into his office.

I must confess that I have always found Seagal movies to be the lowest form of entertainment matched by the lowest quality acting. Now he can extend his signature career to law enforcement.

  1. Apparently the 3 LEOs need attorneys. Are any of you guy/gal lawyers available for retainment in criminal proceedings? The AZ temps are just now in the low 100s…

    Have Retainer, Will Travel?…

3 Arpaio officers held in smuggling case

PHOENIX – Three employees of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office have been arrested in a drug- and human-trafficking case, authorities said Tuesday.

“Sheriff Joe Arpaio said a deputy and two female detention officers at the county’s largest jail facility were among 12 people taken into custody and accused of being in a Phoenix-based international drug-smuggling ring.

One of the detention officers, Marcella Hernandez, told authorities that she is eight months pregnant with the child of Francisco Arce-Torres, the alleged drug ring’s leader who court documents say is also a member of the Mexican Sinaloa cartel.

Deputy Ruben Navarette, Hernandez, and detention officer Sylvia Najera face felony charges. Seven other sheriff’s employees were being investigated.

County Attorney Bill Montgomery said he believed none of the three had an attorney.”

  2. Ute,

I’m sorry, but you’ve mistaken me for someone who gives a damn what you think of me as well as a partisan. I’ve said – probably hundreds of times – that BOTH parties suck, albeit for different reasons. My loyalty is the Constitution as informed by the Declaration of Independence. No man and certainly no party has my loyalty. If you think otherwise, you are not thinking.

As far as stupid goes? Step up to the plate or step off, but simply whining doesn’t exactly impress me that you are an intellect to be considered, let alone “feared”. That propagandists and their supporters such as yourself are upset enough by me using their tools against them to make such weak attacks as they can muster only means one thing:

    I’m having the desired effect.

    Thanks for playing.

Come back when you have a chance for winning this argument.

You are an expert on drivel as evidenced daily by your many posts.

Do you have a job or do you work for some news outlet posting propaganda and trying to intimidate people all day when they dont agree with your small world view?

History is passing you buy and you are too partisan or too stupid to see reality.

  4. “President Bush is a businessman. Vice President Cheney is a businessman. The leaders of The Republican Revolution ~ Newt Gingrich was a history professor. Tom Delay was an exterminator. Dick Armey was an economist. House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon. Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer? ”

“The practice of law is ministering to the legal needs of
another person and the application of legal principles and judgment with regard to the circumstances or objectives of another person which require knowledge of legal principles or the use of legal skill or knowledge.”

Who better to minister to the legal needs of a nation than a ne’re do well, a failed business man ( Bush or Cheney), a philandering history prof. who no longer teaches, an economist who considers bi-partisanship “date rape”, or a bug killer.

I would consider our Republican freinds a party of those people ill-equipped to perform their stated purpose. Why should those interested in the history, development, and efficacy of the law be involved in its production? Let the agendized amateurs do it.

    Maybe you’re on to something.

  5. The Lawyer’s Party ~

This is very interesting & I never thought about it this way. Perhaps this is why so many physicians are conservatives or Republicans.

    vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

The Lawyers’ Party by Bruce Walker ~~

The Democratic Party has become The Lawyers’ Party . Barack Obama was a lawyer. Michelle Obama was a lawyer. Hillary Clinton is a lawyer. Bill Clinton is a lawyer. John Edwards is a lawyer. Elizabeth Edwards is a lawyer. Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate)…

Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school. Look at leaders of the Democrat Party in Congress: Harry Reid is a lawyer.& Nancy Pelosi is a lawyer.

The Republican Party is different ~

President Bush is a businessman.

Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago & who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976..

The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers. The Democrat Party is made up of alot lawyers. Democrats mock & scorn men who create wealth, like Bush & Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich.

The Lawyers’ Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods & services that people want & need, as the enemies of America . And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of The Lawyers’ Party…

The USofA has 5% of the world’s population & 66% of the world’s lawyers ~ Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits such as “spilling hot coffee on yourself & suing the establishment that sold it to you” ~ also to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat Party. When you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association goes to The Democrat Party, then you realize who is responsible for our medical & product costs being so high.:!!

I thought the Tea Party and Republicans are supposed to be all about following the letter of the law???
    —————————————————–

No, no. You’ve got it all wrong. They don’t want to follow the CURRENT laws; they want to follow the laws of 1789. Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God. They want a do-over.

From the Charleston (WV) Tea Party Patriot Declaration:

TENTH, that Rule of Law as established through the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God, entitles the People to unalienable Rights such as Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, and severely limits the government from any infringement upon those rights.

Come now, JT. How can you minimize the historic cinematic impact of “Under Siege.” “Simple cook” saves Iowa Class battleship from CIA-backed mercenaries bent of destroying Honolulu. So plausible and yet so artistically rich:

  8. Wow. Just when you thought Sheriff Joe could not be more crazy, he tops himself and gives ample evidence that he is certifiable. When are the people of Arizona going to wake up and realize that this guy is a madman who is out of control and breaking the law? I thought the Tea Party and Republicans are supposed to be all about following the letter of the law???

  9. “Also being sworn in on Wednesday was actor Peter Lupus from “Mission Impossible”; a retired Chicago police official named Dick Tracy; and Wyatt Earp, nephew of the famous lawman.”(TPM Nov 18 2010)

The Hulk, The Enforcer, Dick Tracy, Wyatt Earp, and Super Cook Seagal … keeping Arizona safe …

    “‘Tis strange,-but true; for truth is always strange;

Stranger than fiction: if it could be told,

How much would novels gain by the exchange!

How differently the world would men behold!

In 1858 Josiah Henson (1789-1883), a Maryland-born slave, wrote an autobiography titled Truth Stranger than Fiction. Henson was supposedly the real-life Uncle Tom in Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe.”

  10. Steven S, quite the snake…but then again the laws do not apply to him…..Arpaio either…I agree both are bad actors?

Now announcing a private practice while still the District Attorney…whats up with that….
