Secession Makes The Heart Grow Fonder? Perry Insists Voters Choose A Candidate “In Love” With The United States

Texas Governor Rick Perry has revealed one of the main distinctions that he sees between himself and Barack Obama. He insists that American needs a president who is “in love” with America. As someone who previously indicated that he was contemplating secession of his state from the United States, this appears to be a case of “separation secession making the heart grow fonder.”

In Waterloo, Perry put forward his test of love. He told the audience “I think you want a president who is passionate about America — that’s in love with America.” Clearly that is meant to exclude Obama.

Perry clearly has become more enraptured by the union since his contemplation of armed divorce in 2009: “There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that.”

  1. When secession-happy Gov. Perry has the nerve to say that he loves America, he is counting on Gore Vidal’s maxim that we live in “The United States of Amnesia.”

Being a politician first and foremost (despite his vaunted Dominionist piety) his greatest devotion will never be to the truth.
