Unfortunately, the man was using a LEA electronic smoking device with a modified battery so he would have more power going to the atomizer, thus creating more e smoke. It’s too bad an incident like this overshadows the good effects for millions who have switched to e cigarettes and quit smoking tobacco.

Holy Cow! That was one hot cigarette! I guess if you think that a cigarette with a battery in it is any better than lighting a leaf on fire and putting it in your mouth, maybe there is some contributory negligence afoot.
There are many reason why this may have happened, so I don’t think people should just jump to conclusions and say ‘Oh e-cigs are rubbish, smoking is obviously safer’. As far as I am aware, this has not happened before, this would therefore suggest that one specific brand has made a product not suitable for use, NOT that all e-cigs are potentially lethal.
Although there is no guarantee that it is the manufacturers fault either….I mean had the product been tampered with or altered in any way by the user? Has anyone stopped to ask this question yet? Messing with the current and flow of an electronic device isn’t a wise thing to do unless you’re an expert in the technicalities of it all, and I know from seeing Forums on e-cigs that many users do tamper and ‘develop’ the products they purchase.
See? We don’t have the answers yet and so we shouldn’t assume and brandish unsubstantiated allegations against a whole industry.
I do agree this is a sad situation, and I do feel bad for the guy, however until he is stable, able to answer questions, and the report released, there is no point just mouthing off.
