The Merry Mug Shot: Houston College Student Arrested In Death Of Pit Bull

When you are accused of getting drunk and killing your dog, this is not the mug shot you want to take at the Galveston police station. Bill Cody Omer, 23, pulled up intoxicated in front of Amanda Harding’s house with a dead pit bull in car. She called police who arrested Omer. Omer is reportedly a college student.

Harding is also a pit bull owner. Omer is accused of leaving the dog in the car for over an hour. He said that he was checking on the dog every 45 minutes. When police arrived, he was found cradling the dog and crying — a sharp change from his mug shot moment.

He is charged with a felony that is punishable with up to two years in jail — though that is unlikely. Experts say the dog is likely to die after just 20 minutes in such heat.

This sounds like a case for a plea. You certainly do not want this mug shot to be shown to a jury.

  1. I had a great time in college/grad school at the turn of the century. We had A LOT of fun, but looking back it becomes clear that as we encourage every child to attend college we are only creating an experience that is nothing more than high school with easy alcohol and no parental guidance.

It seems our colleges are nothing more than 5 year long parties with pieces of papers telling us we’ve accomplished something other than partying through those years.

I’m not saying that not everyone has a right to college, I’m just saying not everyone is right FOR college. This clown seems to be an example.

  2. Did the pigs do a dog authopsy to determine cause of death? Did the pigs have a timer on the car with a video to determine how long the dog was in the car? Did they have a thermometer in there at any time?
The defendant can file a motion to exclude the photo from evidence. He was clowning at their instance and it is unrelated to the crime alleged. I see ceramic tile on the wall behind the defendant which indicates that he is caught by some jerk with a camera while he is in the shower. I dont see any height lines behind his body like a mugshot.

But, from a dog’s point of view, string him up to the nearest tree.

  3. Woosty, yes I do and a full scan is run daily and it runs in real time. This site is the only one that gives me problems. Maybe my semi-broke install of Windows has a problem with WordPress.

  4. LK

we could always rub him down with bacon and turn loose at the animal shelter

It’s getting to the point that I can’t even read the postings here, all of the postings just flipped from English language characters to some kind of machine code- not HTML, something else entirely. This happens about 2, but closing in on 3, out of 4 times that I visit. It does go away if I go to another thread and the comment box is OK. This is the only site this happens to me on. Srsly, is it me (Windows) or WordPress?

Difficult to say. Has anyone else noticed this, I haven’t.

    Could be many things.

In any event, I am concerned at how the court system is being abused by prosecutors in the laying of charges. This man was stupid, drunk, and a poor excuse for a responsible person but really, jail time? A year of community service? Has the impulse to incarcerate and punish become so great that being the most incarcerating country isn’t good enough. Isn’t there a class to send him to for a weekend? If this mans actions are so great of a problem in society that going to jail is a possibility then maybe there ought to be classes started at the local Humane Society.

There was a posting a couple of days ago that I didn’t comment on here. It was about a airline pilot that went crazy, was subdued by passengers and is now in the court system. From what I read about the case he was judged not guilty of any Federal crime because he was mentally ill but his next trip to court is for a civil commitment hearing.

That poor man shouldn’t even have been in the dock. Once it was medically ascertained that he was ill he should have been retired on a medical by the airline and been released to his family (if he has one). If he didn’t have one then he should have been encouraged to get treatment and the treated like any other ill person, not retained in the justice system.

The state no longer has any reason to be dealing with him- put him on a no fly list, it’ll keep him off airplanes. Why is the government so intent on locking him up, somewhere, somehow?

Civil commitment is what the government uses to keep pedophiles locked up after they have served their jail sentence. It’s becoming a work-around for imposing (indeterminate) sentences on people the government doesn’t want walking around for some reason. (Not arguing if the reason is a good one or not.) This is how the Soviets did it, some of the old-timers (like myself) surely remember that; there were no dissidents in the Soviet Union, just mentally ill people. Is that where we are heading?

The rush to impose criminal penalties and jail time for minor acts is inappropriate IMO, and it serves to further oppress ‘little people’. The justice system isn’t the remedy to every problem not conveniently pigeon-holed elsewhere. I am greatly troubled by that impulse and what seems to be the reconfiguring of our laws to maximize risk of severe penalty, like Federalizing protest behavior associated with zones of Federal jurisdiction such as a G20 meeting etc. These trends do not end well for we the people.

Srsly, don’t know where that rant came from….
