Cloudy With A Chance For Glass Showers

Artist’s impression of the deep blue planet HD 189733bThis is HD 189733b, which is the latest planet to be spied by the Hubble Space Telescope. It is like many planets except for one fascinating feature: it’s blue.

The problem is that the Jupiter-sized planet is too close to its star to have liquid water. It orbits its star at a close range every 2.2 days just 63 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula (the Fox).

Scientists believe the blue light is caused by clouds of liquid glass — a reflection by silicate clouds and absorption by sodium atoms. Probably not ideal for a picnic but it is still better than raining molten lead over on Corot 7b.

  1. I don’t know David…. It seems pretty realistic to me… Based upon the article I think they were using the Hubble telescope ….. But far be it from me to question your basis of your statement…. Read this, then the article and see if you can wrap your head around some truths….

(Phys.org) — Astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope have seen dramatic changes in the upper atmosphere of a faraway planet. Just after a violent flare on its parent star bathed it in intense X-ray radiation, the planet’s atmosphere gave off a powerful burst of evaporation. The observations give a tantalizing glimpse of the changing climates and weather on planets outside our solar system.

Now click and read the third word in the first sentence of the first paragraph if this article….

  2. Surely this is a computer illustration of what the planet might look like. The article seems a little misleading, as if this is the image of the planet as seen through the Hubble telescope.

  3. I have to inform you humans on Earth that there is no God and there are no angels perched on clouds above your Earth surface in some place called Heaven. One cannot move Heaven and Earth or Earth for that matter. You have been spinning in a circle for millions of years and have lost any sense of time and place, much less space. Please do not venture out in to space until you get real. All that praying from the space stations gets tiresome. Play, don’t pray, and by that I mean play some Chuck Berry or something.

    We are from France.

  4. sounds more like project blue beam is about to finally make its performance .. for those who don’t know project blue beam is allegedly a light show that is supposed to happen where GOD comes down from heaven and informs mankind the religions they have been following are all lies and that they have been lied to. and he is here now to show us the real light. of course this project was/is being performed by the corporation in washington t usher in their one world corporation

  5. A telescope does not “spy” and nor does it do anything on its own. People use a telescope to observe. I spy, you spy, we all spy. That planet has no expectation of privacy.

  6. From reading the article, I think the glass rain would take second place for dangerous conditions compared to the X-ray bombardment from the parent star.
