HAPPY EASTER!!!

Happy Easter to all of our bloggers and readers that are celebrating today. The bunny came to the Turley house and left baskets overflowing with chocolates and candies. He even left a basket for Luna overflowing with dog treats. We were in Chicago all week and returned to Virginia a day early so it was good that the bunny found us. He must have been up really really really late. He left riddles for the kids like “what gets bigger the more you remove from it?” (Answer below)

We threw together our annual Easter Egg hunt in a couple hours this morning and were delighted to have a good showing of neighborhood kids.

100px-Chicago_Cubs_Logo_svgWe will be making our traditional lamb tonight. With the Blackhawks win last night and the Bears making the most of free agency and the Cubs ready for a historic season, all is well in the world.

By the way, my son Jack sent me this link on how to make really incredible colored eggs, though I think the use of a computer and machine is a bit unfair.

I loved the trip to Chicago to see the Turley clan. We even went to Bergoff’s — one of Chicago’s oldest restaurants and a place that brought back wonderful memories of my father who would take me to eat German food at Bergoff’s. We also went to Cantigny Museum — another childhood favorite — to climb on the tanks and enjoy the park. We then took off and made the 12 hour drive in record time — in about 10 and a half hours.

Happy Easter to everyone — now hop to it and eat more chocolate!

  3. I think you would be “Emory Boarded” for referring to “colored eggs”. If ya know what i mean jelly bean.
    Some other guy did that jelly bean reference on here and I think it is funny. But one must be careful about word use in this new world which we live in. Those Emory students have paved the way. You could say African American eggs. Think twice JT and be nice.

  5. Happy Easter to all. Here in San Diego there is a nice tradition. All of the parks have family picnics and Easter egg hunts. Belmont Park had their traditional Easter egg hunt on the beach. Lots of Mexicans kids, just from church. The boys in shirt and tie. The girls in pretty dresses and Easter bonnets. Mexicans are a great addition to our culture.

  6. The Berghoff is a classic Chicago German restaurant. There used to be more, but German food is not trendy enough for the younger set. I lived in a German neighborhood near Lane Tech HS. Classic German bars where you could learn how to speak German if you wanted. We had two great German restaurants within walking distance. Schulien’s on Irving Park had a beautiful mahogany back bar and the owner would unobtrusively walk around doing sleight of hand tricks. Zum Deutschen Eck[The German Corner] was on Lincoln near a huge Catholic church. They would have an oompah band and the best beef rouladen I have ever eaten. Both Schulien’s a Zum Deutschen Eck are no more, closed after generations in biz.
