Turley To Speak At ASCRS Conference in New Orleans

img_3550It will be my distinct pleasure to serve as the keynote speaker today at the conference of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in New Orleans. I will be addressing the society tonight in New Orleans on the rise of the Fourth Branch and how it relates to the practice of medicine in the 21st Century. It is always fun to return to New Orleans where I started my teaching career at Tulane University, though this will regrettably have to be a short visit due to a speech in Michigan. Since today is my birthday, I will have to at least get out to a couple of my favorite haunts for some good food and drinks with the Napoleon House at the top of the list for a Pimm’s Cup . . . or two.

logoFounded in 1974, the society is an international, educational society with more than 9,000 members that works for the advancement of the art and science of ophthalmic surgery. It is a highly influential and global organization that covers not just clinical training and education for practitioners but also management and governmental component to promote the delivery and advancement of high-quality eye care.

These medical professionals are on the very cutting edge of changing technology and regulations in the medical field. I have been meeting with doctors in various specialities and learning more about the growing concerns over the ability to deliver services in increasingly complex legal and economic conditions. I will be exploring how this regulatory power affects healthcare and other industries and what he believes should be done to remedy it.

The Joint ASCRS•ASOA Government Relations General Session will be held in the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA, room 220–222, on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5:00–6:00 pm.

    …not only has darpa figurered out hearts they figigured out eyes. Tell me as a taxpayer…
    Why i spent so much money for darpa to turn brown eyes blue? That’s what i want to know. Who cares? And why?

  4. Happy birthday, youngster. New “Orleans is a great town to be in for a celebration. I bet my great eye doc is there. He did cataract surgery in both eyes a year ago[month apart]. I couldn’t see squat @ night and was helpless driving @ night in the rain. It’s all better now. For all you folks getting long in the tooth. If you are having trouble seeing @ night while driving, see a doc.

  9. I had an experience with one of these practitioners who was at the cutting edge. He was at the far end of the cutting edge and left a bridge too far between a cataract and an eye vein which resulted in blind in one eye and an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth in the other. And there I was broken hearted, tried to poop but only farted. So the hospital let me go. And off I went and ended up at Cafe au Lay in the heart of Amsterdam and by midnight my thoughts were elsewhere at a cathouse off Damrak. Curley once remarked: “I can’t see! I can’t see.” Then he said: “Oh. I had my eyes closed.” And so it goes. Yuk, yuk, yuk, yuk.
