The Louisiana man set up his own sting after mistakenly sending a text message to an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputy to finalize delivery details of a crystal meth drug deal.

He has a prior record of running a meth lab out of his boat. He makes Jesse Pinkman look like Jesse James. He needs some tough love like what Saul explained to Jesse and Walter in Breaking Bad: “Look, let’s start with some tough love. You two suck at peddling meth. Period.”

Metheny was arrested in May 2014 for shooting a missile into an occupied car.

  4. Okay, so nobody probably cares, but I was curious about this so-called missile. Under Florida Statutes, a missile can be a simple stone thrown at someone.

    790.19 Shooting into or throwing deadly missiles into dwellings, public or private buildings, occupied or not occupied; vessels, aircraft, buses, railroad cars, streetcars, or other vehicles.—Whoever, wantonly or maliciously, shoots at, within, or into, or throws any missile or hurls or projects a stone or other hard substance which would produce death or great bodily harm, at, within, or in any public or private building, occupied or unoccupied, or public or private bus or any train, locomotive, railway car, caboose, cable railway car, street railway car, monorail car, or vehicle of any kind which is being used or occupied by any person, or any boat, vessel, ship, or barge lying in or plying the waters of this state, or aircraft flying through the airspace of this state shall be guilty of a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

    So then I found the following, which is dated the month before the news articles. Looks to me like Crystal Metheny shot a BB gun at the car. The charge must have showed up on the dockets as her shooting a missile per the Florida Statute. Sensational journalism took it from there. I wonder if this qualifies as Fake News. 🙂

  8. I can’t understand why anyone would put crystal meth into their bodies. It’s made out of completely toxic stuff, and creates a toxic end product that only creates some sort of positive mental effect because it’s causing damage. Who voluntarily does that?

    It’s sadly quite popular out here. You can see a lot of homeless people picking at meth sores.

    Drugs are supposed to be fun, but it sure doesn’t look like any addicts are having fun. They just look sad and pathetic, the most self destructive, bridge burning people in existence. It’s a self inflicted disease. But most people probably think it will never happen to them until they are deeply hooked. Although it’s self inflicted, I still feel very sorry for them, because it was out of naiveté. Sadly, you cannot force rehab on any addict.

    1. Karen – there are all sorts of reasons for trying it, but if your friends start smelling like cat pee, they are on crystal meth. One solution is to take the addicted to camps where they are isolated for at least 90 days and then ship them to other parts of the country. When they clean up and go back to their home environment they just have the same temptations.

      1. Eeew! Cat pee, really? Yuck! There was a guy at work who started smelling like chlorine whom we found out was a meth addict. So they even start off gassing toxins? Yuck. That garbage is so toxic to produce that people can get sick if they move into a house that was used to produce it at one time.

        Addiction is so sad. It must be very strong to induce people to poison themselves and their relationships. It’s like they become possessed and are not in control of their decisions anymore. You can never trust an active addict.

        I’m a little reluctant to ask this, but who are some other groups that you believe should be exiled from society for at least 90 days? Right wingers? Liberals? Beer drinkers? Skoal users? Intolerant people? Scientologists? Where would you draw the line?

        1. bill mcwilliams – It is a workable solution for that group. If you want to add other addicted groups, that would be up to you. I suggested a solution for one problem, you add more trouble.

    2. Actually, Karen, there is way to force rehab on addicts. Well, not exactly force. Let’s just say, make them an offer that they can’t refuse. When one of these addicts runs into trouble with the law, which, of course, is inevitable due to the incessant need to feed the addiction and commit crimes to fund the persistent need to purchase more drugs , prosecutors and judges can, and, often do, offer rehab programs as a condition of probation, depending upon the nature of the charge. It’s a way to avoid a conviction for the underlying offense and, in the meantime, a chance to get clean and sober. Most will choose that option over jail or prison time. That has been my experience. Whether the rehab actually works, in the long run, is another story.

      1. Hi Bam Bam – I should have clarified that forced rehab doesn’t work. They go right back to their druggie friends and start back up again. It’s just a waste of everyone’s time and money. Even voluntary rehab often takes multiple trips before success.

        This site has a more positive view on forced rehab. It states that only 10% of addicts seek treatment, and most of those are coerced to do so.

        Perhaps there is a way for forced rehab to be more successful. I hope so. We certainly have a lot of test subjects.

        If Drug Prohibition laws were overturned, drugs would be cheap, users wouldn’t resort to crimes in order to afford them, and billions of dollars would be saved and could be diverted to targeting White Collar crimes – which costs society billions of dollars each year. Alcohol and tobacco cause far more deaths than illegal drugs. Why don’t politicians clamor to make them illegal? The Drugs prohibition special interest groups would extract far more money from hard working taxpayers than they earn by ruining the approximately one million lives that are impacted by our present War on Drugs.

        1. A lot of drugs are quite cheap, but addicts still resort to crime to obtain them.

          If an addict is so far gone that they cannot hold down a job, they couldn’t afford a drug that cost a penny without begging or stealing. Many homeless forego eating and spend all their proceeds from begging on drugs and alcohol.

          Technically, smoking tobacco should be illegal under the FDA because it has zero health benefits and it is a drug. However, it has a long cultural history of use, which is why it has not fallen completely under their purview. Alcohol can have health benefits when used in moderation, and is only unhealthy when abused.

          There are definitely arguments for and against legalizing all drugs. I am cautious about taking such an action. We live in a country where you can sue a drug manufacturer for harming you. How would you legalize drugs that are only dangerous and harmful? It would be caveat emptor, and people could mix up any toxic drug in their bathroom that they wanted to sell on the street, including bath salts that turn people into cannibals. And if that was legal, then I presume you could no longer sue drug companies that cause harm, either.

          There is room to argue the legalization of pot, which does have health benefits. As well, there are concerns that marijuana is becoming stronger and stronger, and may one day be a hard drug instead of an herbal sedative and pain reliever. But I don’t see how we could legalize the sale of heroin, bath salts, crack, meth, or anything else that is basically pure poison. You could conceivably legalize the use, but not the sale, under the grounds that you could have the right to kill yourself if you want to. But I don’t see how you could legalize the sale of something that is deadly to the user. I am currently against legalizing street drugs, and have not yet heard any arguments to convince me. I would not want the US to become a drug tourist destination like Amsterdam. But Portugal has been experimenting with decriminalization. We could wait and see how it works out for them long term and reassess.

            Have you heard any convincing arguments in favor of continuing the status quo in spite of the many and hugely expensive consequences and results of our decades long War on Drugs?

            Are you convinced that we should continue to spend taxpayers money on prosecuting victimless crimes even if it means less enforcement against fraud and common crimes such as assaults, rapes, robberies, theft etc.?

            1. No. The status quo isn’t working. I do not view addicts as criminals, unless they broke the law to feed their addiction. But merely being an addict is a self inflicted disease. I am just not convinced that the answer is legalizing all drugs, for the reasons mentioned above. For example, how could you legalize bath salts, that turn the users into cannibals, and yet go after pharmaceutical companies whose drugs cause damage?

  9. Okay. I’ll admit it. I’m confused. The title asks, CAN YOU GUESS WHAT THIS PERSON WAS CHARGED WITH, yet two photos are posted beneath that caption. Are those before and after shots of the same guy? If so, the after shot shows how meth may have contributed to him losing the stubble, yet, at the same time, allowing him to gain some long tresses, an additional 50 pounds and a herpes sore on his lip.

  10. There is a contradiction that lies and governs when criminals come into contact with common sense. Add a drug addled brain to the equation and there’s no figuring it out. A unique logic peculiar to the animal is the result. Case in point, Bernie Madoff whose logic/ponzi scheme put him in jail for well beyond his life just made big prison bucks by cornering the hot chocolate market in the joint. Would it surprise anyone if DDT let him off?

    1. Is he still allowed to do that – buy up all the Swiss Miss at the commissary and sell it at a profit to his literally captive buyers in the yard? Or did they put a stop to that by imposing a limit on how much you could buy? Once a jerk, always a jerk.

I thought that he was making some sort of off-color joke–alluding to Madoff, in prison and managing to corner the chocolate market behind bars. No idea that cups of hot chocolate were being monopolized.

    “You think he would have given it all up,” one law enforcement official said.
    Instead, he’s facing 10 years to life in prison.

  14. There is an old saying that if there were not stupid criminals, most of them would not be caught. I have a feeling that Crystal Methanny was using her own product when she allegedly launched that rocket into the vehicle. Rocket launchers are not usually a woman’s choice for revenge. This will make the 4th Wave of Feminism ecstatic!!!

    2. Paul, There was a prosecutor I worked for who had a great response to the overused, boilerplate claim by defense attorney, “My client would have to be awfully stupid…”, Her retort was, “Thankfully we don’t have to prove he’s smart, just that he’s guilty.”

  15. I know there are a lot of good people in Florida, but Crystal seems to me to be the prototype. I bet she was the queen of somebody’s double-wide trailer until she was booked for just doin’ bidness.
