Trump Tweet On Nordstrom Dumping Ivanka Line Falls Under Inherent Parental Powers

1202996429_8991-3Another tweet by Donald Trump  has caused a ruckus back in Washington (I am in Guam for a speech).  Trump took after Nordstrom for dropping the Ivanka brand. While the store cited poor sales, Trump tweeted “My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” Shares for the store chain dropped in value following the tweet and media began calling to ask for the legality of such criticism by the president. The answer is that it is perfectly legal . . . just ask Harry Truman.  While the scope of executive privilege is broad, it is not nearly as broad and plenary as that of inherent parental authority.  When it comes to a president and his daughter, history has shown that this is one power exercised by all fathers that is accorded sweeping deference and little judicial review.

If you think the Trump tweet was raw consider Truman’s letter to Washington Post music critic Paul Hume after Hume panned the performance of Margaret Truman.   Hume wrote that “Miss Truman cannot sign very well.”  Comparing Hume to columnist Westbrook Pegler (who Truman previously called a “rat,” Truman proceeded to say that he wanted to punch Hume in the nose and would likely kick the “frustrated old man” in the groin.  Hume was 34 at the time.

Mr. Hume:

I’ve just read your lousy review of Margaret’s concert. I’ve come to the conclusion that you are an “eight ulcer man on four ulcer pay.”

It seems to me that you are a frustrated old man who wishes he could have been successful. When you write such poppy-cock as was in the back section of the paper you work for it shows conclusively that you’re off the beam and at least four of your ulcers are at work.

Some day I hope to meet you. When that happens you’ll need a new nose, a lot of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below!

Pegler, a gutter snipe, is a gentleman alongside you. I hope you’ll accept that statement as a worse insult than a reflection on your ancestry.

H.S.T.

That makes the Trump tweet look pretty mild in comparison.

  1. Prof. Turley, this post makes me wonder how I learned anything from you… Inherent parental powers? You’re going to need to cite an actual rule on that one rather than a letter from Harry Truman…

  2. Exclusive — Women Nationwide Cut Up Nordstrom’s Cards, Plan Boycotts After Political Decision to Drop Ivanka Trump Line

    by Matthew Boyle & Michelle Moons8 Feb 2017Washington, D.C.13,663

Retail department store Nordstrom’s decision last week to cut first daughter Ivanka Trump’s fashion line has sparked a tremendous backlash from consumers—especially women—who say the company’s move has led them to boycott the store and cut up their Nordstrom’s cards.
Nordstrom’s claimed that the Ivanka Trump brand wasn’t performing well, but industry insiders tell Breitbart News that’s just not accurate. Nordstrom’s decision to mislead the public on why they are stopping carrying the Ivanka Trump brand is part of the fury out there among its longtime customers, who tell Breitbart News they’re cutting up their Nordstrom’s cards and won’t shop at the store anymore. Some even say they plan to return all their recent purchases.

“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance,” Nordstrom’s press spokesperson told Fortune magazine last week. “In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”

Nordstrom’s had previously taken a neutral approach to boycotters’ calls for the company to discontinue carrying the brand. An internal email sent last November 21 from company co-President Pete Nordstrom to employees affirmed they would continue carrying the brand, of which he wrote, “[It] has grown to be a sizable and successful business,” according to Fortune.

The November email stated their policy on carrying products based on results: “If people don’t buy it, we won’t sell it.” Nordstrom’s statement went on to state, “We strive to be agnostic about politics and to treat all our customers with respect.” In response to media reporting on the email, Nordstrom’s told Fortune, “The email, though meant for an internal audience, captures everything we have to say on this subject. So far we have received many positive responses from our employees.”

A Nordstrom representative responded to requests for comment from Breitbart News via email by stating that it will keep selling whatever it has left of Ivanka Trump’s brand. “We’ve offered the brand in different categories and divisions (Shoes, Apparel, Accessories, full price and off price, in-store and online),” the Nordstrom representative said. “Because of variations of when previous buys were made, when they’re delivered and how fast they sell through, we’ll continue to have it available for a while.”

The representative refused to provide numbers of how many responses there were to the company pulling Trump’s brand after multiple requests. She also stated that there were no plans to reveal whether the responses were more negative or positive.

But, in reality, the brand wasn’t performing badly. Nordstrom’s came under political fire from a series of hardcore anti-Trump activists, according to People Magazine.

“The luxury retailer, which has faced calls for months from the #grabyourwallet movement to drop Ivanka merchandise, said that Nordstrom switches out about 10 percent of its assortment each year to refresh it as a matter of course in running its business, culling lines that aren’t selling well enough,” People’s Stephanie Petit wrote on Wednesday.

An industry veteran familiar with Nordstrom’s told Breitbart News that the claim Ivanka’s brand wasn’t performing well is, simply put, not true:

This is a classic example of a retailer making a decision based on their fear of standing up to political pressure – even on a limited scale. It was clear from their actions since last fall that Nordstrom would prefer to sell out to loud liberal groups who weren’t even regular Nordstrom consumers, just to avoid controversy. It’s sort of amazing that a store which relies on women around the country would fold so quickly to a group with limited reach just to avoid controversy. You would think that Nordstrom would want to stand up for a well known women’s brand whose namesake is a role model for women entrepreneurs, who has consistently supported women’s issues, and represents all of the strength and conviction which women around the country admire. Insiders know how stores can easily play games with placement of merchandise and other ways to lower numbers, and its very possible Nordstrom did that here to cover themselves. It’s amazing that Nordstrom wouldn’t have learned the lesson to be more focused on the entire country and not a limited group of complainers.

In fact, the company has been playing politics with anti-Trump actions for some time now on other matters as well. An overtly political message came across in an internal memo sent last week from Nordstrom’s to its employees, a portion of which spoke to the President’s temporary travel restriction on those coming from seven terror-prone nations identified during the Obama Administration. The Seattle PI quoted a portion of the internal Nordstrom’s memo:

Last Friday an executive order was signed by the President of the United States related to immigration. This subject is one we’re watching closely — our family’s heritage, the company’s roots, and the diverse employees and customers we serve are top of mind. When John W. Nordstrom came to the U.S. as an immigrant, he was given opportunities that allowed him to find a more prosperous and happy life. In so many ways, our humble beginnings and the work ethic and gratitude that goes with it helped shape the culture of our company to this day.

Despite efforts by a handful of people to boycott Ivanka Trump’s line, her business manager Abigail Klem told the Guardian last year that the brand has seen “significant year over year revenue growth.”

“We are proud that our business is growing rapidly and that our brand resonates strongly with women who are inspired by our messaging and excited about the polished and chic solution-oriented products that we offer,” Klem said.

A majority of millennial women, according to a study from BrandKeys highlighted by Forbes last year, are sticking with the Ivanka Trump brand even if they don’t support her father’s policies. Fifty-one percent of the millennial women surveyed said they were either “extremely likely” or “very likely” to purchase Ivanka Trump fashion products when asked: “In light of Ivanka Trump’s involvement with the Trump campaign for president, how likely would you be to consider buying her line of shoes or clothing?”

Another 32 percent added they were “somewhat likely,” meaning a total of 83 percent of millennial women still like Ivanka Trump’s line, even when considering her father’s presidential campaign and politics. Only 17 percent said they were “not very likely” or “not at all likely” to buy Ivanka Trump products in light of her father’s campaign.

BrandKeys surveyed 950 women across nine U.S. census regions between 18 and 35-years-old from Oct. 21 to Oct. 24, 2016. “Each of the respondents indicated she’d made one or more dress or shoe purchase of at least $250 in the past 12 months,” Forbes magazine’s Clare O’Connor wrote about the poll.

What’s more, the targeting of Ivanka Trump and her brand is hardly something that could be considered pro-women activism by its ringleaders. Anti-Trump fanatics have fervently pursued an effectual ban of Trump brands from retailers. Brand strategist and founder of the anti-Ivanka Trump boycott Shannon Coulter spearheaded the #grabyourwallet boycott of retailers carrying Trump family brand products according to Business Insider. The report states that the boycott gained steam after the viral Twitter posted letter of someone claiming to be a lifelong Nordstrom customer.

“The hate speech directed at African Americans, Latinos, Jews, Muslims, LGBT people, and women by the Trump campaign is unacceptable and does not seem to represent Nordstrom’s values,” read a portion of the letter. On January 29 the @SheWhoVotes twitter account wrote of Counselor to the President KellyAnne Conway, “Why does Kellyanne always look like she just emerged from a vat of grease? Or is that just Trump slime?” The account retweeted the tweet on Friday after news of Nordstrom dropping the Ivanka Trump brand. A January 23 tweet from the account called Conway, “Sewer Rat Barbie.”

Coulter has been tracking availability of Trump’s products on Nordstrom’s website in recent months, according to Business Insider. She claims that in early December, shortly after the November 21 Pete Nordstrom letter to employees saying they would keep the brand, there were 71 Trump-branded items available; by last week there were 26, and as of Wednesday there were nine. It is unclear if she had documentation of those numbers. A Friday morning search for “Ivanka Trump” did however, return results for just four products.

But the negativity from these anti-Trump activists doesn’t get Ivanka Trump down. She’s standing firm, and emerging from this targeting campaign even stronger. In an interview with Fast Company last October, right before the election, Ivanka Trump stood by her father—and her brand—and didn’t flinch. She said the scrutiny and the targeting that has come her way has made her a stronger, tougher woman.

“I mean, it’s been a year and a half of enormous scrutiny, of my family, every business, every movement, action,” she said. ”But I think that, you know, that sort of comes with the territory. And I think I’ve probably learned a lot through it and I’ve probably grown a bit tougher in terms of my resilience toward what is thrown our way because, you know, I’ve read some very negative stuff.”

“I learned a long time ago that I can’t control the opinions of others or what they project on me. All I can do is live my life, and I’ve tried to do that,” she also said in that interview.

Ivanka Trump, the daughter of President Donald J. Trump, has since her father’s inauguration stepped back from her roles in not only the Trump organization, but also her own brand as she moved to Washington, D.C. She has been vocal about advocating for improved access to childcare and for women. Her husband Jared Kushner accepted a position as senior advisor to President Trump, and the duo have been integral to President Trump’s early successes.

In response to the news about Nordstrom cutting his daughter’s fashion line, President Trump bashed the retail department store on Twitter.

In response to Trump’s tweet—and the ongoing boycott of Nordstrom’s for the company’s political decision to cut Ivanka Trump’s line—Nordstrom’s stock tumbled on Wednesday.

“Shares of Nordstrom fell from session highs Wednesday after President Donald Trump said his daughter, Ivanka Trump, had been treated unfairly by the company,” CNBC’s Berkeley Lovelace wrote on Wednesday. Lovelace’s piece notes that Nordstrom’s stock is seriously hurting this year overall, too: “With Wednesday’s drop, Nordstrom’s shares are down more than 10 percent year to date.”

Fueling the fire against Nordstrom’s for the decision to drop Ivanka Trump’s line is a boycott from women all across the country.

A host of responses on social media showed backlash over the decision, including this exchange in which a Twitter user challenges the company’s claim that the decision was based solely on sales and the company defends its claim:

An attempt to place a particular size and type of Ivanka Trump shoe in an online purchase cart on Nordstrom’s website as of Friday showed that shoe out of stock; however, a check of stores revealed that the shoe was in stock in a Nordstrom retail location.

Facebook user Shari Bartel Dresselhaus posted a letter to Nordstrom from her niece, a former Nordstrom employee and loyal customer. The letter called out Nordstrom, noting a social media post, “…after seeing a post by Olivia Kim whom I recall to be one of your corporate leaders writing #yeswecan #yeswedid below a screenshot of the news article indicating the separation from the Ivanka Trump brand, I am left feeling that this decision was not made purely based on sales performance.”

Many women nationwide have told Breitbart News as well that they plan to stop shopping at Nordstrom’s.

“I will stop patronizing their stores, after 30 years of loyalty, until they stop caving in to the left looneys!” Gay Moreno, who lives in Crossville, Tennessee, told Breitbart News. “Political beliefs are one thing; weakness in the face of anarchy is another!”

“I’ve had enough of the pompous snobbery of the left and that it seeps through to our retail industry shows me a total lack of respect for the consumer and the patrons,” Wendy Burdette from Clifton, Virginia, said in an email. She said she plans to “shred” her Nordstrom’s card because he doesn’t “need” it anymore.

“I will be calling Nordstrom and canceling my credit card after 20 plus years of patronage due to their dropping of the Ivanka Trump line,” Laura Lightstone from Gaithersburg, Maryland, told Breitbart News. “I will also be returning the items I just bought from them last week. I am willing to make a statement in a piece you are writing.”

“I have been a frequent shopper at Nordstrom with their credit card but will destroy the card if they do in fact discontinue the Ivanka line,” Sandy Dominick from Fairfax, Virginia—originally from Canton, Ohio—said in an email. “Very tired of sore losers. I was very unhappy for past 7 years (note: I gave Obama a year) but never behaved like a spoiled brat.”

Deb Chandler, a public relations executive in Washington, D.C., who describes herself as a moderate Republican raised by Southern Democrats, told Breitbart News she’s now boycotting Nordstrom’s over this decision:

As a moderate Republican, raised by southern Democrats (Louisiana and Texas,) a child of military veterans, a business owner, and a woman, whose favorite pair of heels happens to be a golden brushed leather pump with a sassy bow by Ivanka Trump, I question where I am in the ongoing transition happening in America. Seriously, has my life come down to a pair of pumps? Yes, apparently so. I am disheartened to find this week, alongside riots and fires at Berkley in an effort to stop free speech, that Nordstrom decided to pull the Ivanka Trump lines from their stores.

“For crying out loud people, I have the right to chose my brand and where I buy my shoes from without a major campaign directing how I spend my hard earned money,” Chandler added.

Andrea Lafferty, a conservative leader who is also the president of the group Women for a Great America, told Breitbart News she is done with Nordstrom’s too.

“Nordstrom’s needs to figure out that their demographic is Christian women not snotty hoodlums wearing masks,” Lafferty said.

Lynda DiPasquale, a New Jersey Nordstrom’s shopper, cut up her card over this.

“I just cut up my Nordstrom platinum card as I refuse to waste thousands of dollars to support a company that mixes their politics with my fine shopping experience,” DiPasquale said in an email. “On the bright side…my husband will be THRILLED.”

Lee O’Connor, another woman who used to shop at Nordstrom’s, won’t anymore.

“Store credit cards are an unnecessary nuisance, so I don’t have a Nordstrom’s card to shred,” she said in an email. “But I won’t be spending any of my hard-earned dollars at Nordstrom’s or any other store that caves to pressure from the Left to stop carrying the beautiful and affordable items in the Ivanka Trump Collection.”

So is Kelley Pinzon, another previously loyal Nordstrom’s shopper.

“After 28 years of customer loyalty, I will shred my Nordstrom card by the end of the week if y’all do not start selling Ivanka Trump products again,” Pinzon said in an email. “Please stop selling political messages and sell merchandise. I want to see Ivanka’s line restored.”

And it’s not just women boycotting Nordstrom’s now: Brad Botwin, a previous shopper at the department store chain who is from Rockville, Maryland, told Breitbart News he’s done with them too.

“I am a long time Nordstrom customer and exclusively purchase my suits, shirts and ties at Nordstrom,” Botwin said in an email. “No longer because of their punitive and political act to drop Ivanka Trump’s clothing line. I have also e-mailed Nordstrom to drop me from their special email list of events and other messages. If this organization doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to the unfair left wing pressure against Ivanka Trump, I shudder to think what next they will cave on next. Decisions like this erode the freedoms and liberty of all Americans.”

    1. Is that Mr.Bannons’ Breitbart News????

Gee I wish they’d name your so called Industry Insiders……everyone else says something else…

“Sales of First Daughter Ivanka Trump’s merchandise at Nordstrom’s had tumbled sharply prior to the 2016 election, The Wall Street Journal ….
      http://www.cnbc.com/2017/02/11/nordstrom-data-show-ivanka-trump-sales-plummeted-wall-street-journal.html

“Nordstrom’s sales of Ivanka Trump’s line of clothing and shoes fell by nearly one-third in the past fiscal year, with sharp drops in sales in the weeks before her father Donald Trump was elected president, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.”

      http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-nordstrom-idUSKBN15Q0LB

      ———————————–
So Nordstrom’s cannot make a business decision without the clouthammer Trump coming down Ubernazi but he STILL hasn’t legally fulfilled HIS business divestitures as office of the President demands or even bothered to do what he verbally PROMISED THE NATION IF HE WERE ELECTED…’produce his birrt…ahem, scuse, produce his TAX returns’.

again, PHUCK YOU USA!!!!! says Trump in Superman mode…see! NO words needed!

  3. “The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner” is a fantastic example of what poetry is capable of. Think of it this way. If you had to write something in prose dealing with the complexity and emotion of big subjects like life, death, and war, it would take you way more than 5 sentences to get it done. In fact, someone could write 5 pages, 5 chapters, or even an entire book in prose and still not capture what Randall Jarrell captures in those 5 little lines.

  4. Belk, Jet, ShopStyle and Home Shopping Network all followed suit. Add these to your boycott list. If anyone asks direct them to Patty Murrays garage the new HQ of the secular regressives since Latinos and Blacks are taking over the DNC operation. Where else would a White ID group go in the Pac NW. California….no not enough water, Oregon? ????? Answers itself. Northern tip of Idaho? Nahhh they are too too internationalist in their socialism the National Socialists would rip them a new one.

  5. I’d say LMAO, but trump being unprepared, lazy, seemingly incredibly stupid (is it an act?) and a pathological liar will hurt all Americans. And no, I wouldn’t expect conservatives to take responsibility when blaming Obama is an easier then manning up.

    1. I wouldn’t expect weenies who still blame George Bush either to “man up”!

  6. Maybe Ivanka’s over priced garbage will eventually end up there. Maybe not. Are you privy to the contractual specifics between ivanka and Nordstrom? Maybe she specifically prohibits such a placement?

As there is virtually zero upside for Nordstrom to pick a fight with our infantile, destructive president, conservative conspiracy theory conjecture is baseless and without merit.

    1. Bill W – Trump has not been in office long enough to be destructive. However, Obama is still trying to destroy him and his administration. Something an ex-President has not done in a long time.

      1. Paul, Tell Navy Seal William Ryan Owens family that Trump hasn’t been destructive, matter of fact tell the civilians parents and children who were killed as well.

        1. jim2 – Owen died doing what he was trained to do and Trump was man enough to visit Dover Airbase to see his coffin come in. That is something Obama never did. As for the other deaths, I am not sure who was responsible for the other deaths, however since SEALs are very good shots and are very disciplined, I don’t think it was the SEALs who shot the civilians.

            1. A draft dodger who managed to get elected. Pretty ballsy move, going to Dover and. opening himself to all he criticism. What qs he supposed to do? Hide?

He’s the f**cking CinC. He’s not supposed to act like it? He’s not supposed to salute a Sailor?

Bicurious. Is dissent still the new patriotism?

            2. Anon – did you serve? If not, you have no say in the matter. Only those of us who were draft eligible can speak to whether it is far or not.

          1. You and me both, brudda! And there’s the delicate question of who are the civilians. Is someone pouring fire on you from a window a civilian? I’m satisfied with the answer.

            1

        2. Children? WTFO! A SEAL is nobody’s child. Have you ever looked a sailor in the eye?

          1

          1

        1. Wootsy – Obama has activated Organizing for America, his old campaign org and is going after Trump. He has already tweeted out a few things.

          1. Sounds like he is being a responsible citizen and exercising free speech. Pretty sure Trumps ‘Make Americ Great Again’ train also fit that bill. I don’t get the differnce? You make it sound like he is gunning for Trump on a personal, vitriolic level. He IS a politician, and unlike the liar n chief he did not bilk the public out of due information which he verbally agreed to give and then flATlaughingly REFUSED. You discredit ‘liberals’ based on what???? Policy? Attitude? Morals? I am confused because you make statements like the above that make the legal, forthright and rightful actions of a citizen sound illegal and hateful and yet the the current regimes actions are so obviously very far over the legal line and yet they are ‘the good guys, victims of targeting and low dealing…. Your view is blatantly hypocritical and i am left wondering ‘gee, is he blind to that fact or what?’.

            1. Wootsy – do you remember the most transparent administration ever? Did that happen? Do you remember all the stonewalling by the various Obama agencies to FOIA requests? We still do not have all of Hillary’s emails. We still do not have Hillary’s emails on Benghazi.

  7. Kids blackballed? Conspiracy theories? This site cracks me up with arguably some of the dumbest comments/posts ever.

Nordstrom made a business decision based on poor sales. That’s it! There is zero evidence backing up the ridiculous diatribes posted here. I understand conservatives do not need evidence or reality….just simply sheer numbers repeating the same lie over and over again. But the posts here are so devoid of reality that anyone should be shocked

To think Norsdtrom would publicly lied to investors (and expose themselves to a shareholder lawsuit) almost assuredly knowing the likely infantile tweeting reaction of baby trump and the resultant hit to their stock price (albeit short term) based on favoring a group of people likely sans the funds to shop at their store is almost beyond belief. How could anyone be that mistaken?

A more likely view of the circumstances is that Nordstrom’s kept ivanka’s line on the shelves long after sales were struggling and a less influential designers’ line would have been pulled ….but left the foreign made product on their shelves specifically to avoid the baby trump’s tweeting and conservative push back threat of boycotts. Eventually, economics dictated their actions.

Instead of incessant whining lies, maybe cons should have just brought the spoiled brat’s over priced garbage to keep it on Nordstom’s shelves. After all, isn’t that what they do with their ridiculous books to pump up their placement on NY Times book lists?

    1. Bill W – if sales were poor Nordstrom’s would be selling them at Nordstrom’s Rack which is their discount house. I do not see that happening.

            1. watch out anon – bringing facts to a fight based on lies is dangerous territory for this blog.

              1. Sometimes it is hard to tell the facts from the alternative facts.

Maybe Trump should tweet that the reason the fashion items are not at Nordstrom’s is they sold out and it was really a huge success. Yeah, that’s the ticket – it was such a huge success they could not keep up with demand.

              2. Bill W – TJ Maxx and Marshalls carry Ivanka’s line as one of their many product lines. IF you read the article you would see they just are not going to specialize the product anymore. They are still going to carry it. Still, my first contention was that TJ Maxx and Marshalls are not discount houses. Nordstrom’s Rack is the discount house for Nordstrom. We have one here in the Phx area and I have been forced to go to it. I am sure that if they cannot sell it there, they push it elsewhere but not to Marshalls or TJ Maxx.

                1. paul – You never said anything about tj maxx and marshalls being discount houses and I couldn’t care less about where ivanka’s garbage is sold. Why would anyone but ivanka and her whiny family care. But that companies are now trying to hide her merchandise amongst other bargain basement sales is evidence enough for the losers who care.

btw – unless you are officer or director of Nordstrom’s you are not privy to all of their policies. To think that they would intentionally mislead investors to pick a fight with the president makes no sense unless one lives in an alternative facts universe.

What I do care about is a president who has said he could remove himself from family business…..but seemingly can not. After overreacting to ivanka’s business failure, can you imagine his reaction when one of his idiot sons’ screws up a deal which he has his own $’s? Emoluments clause?

                  1. Bill W – did either George Washington or Jefferson divest themselves to become President?

                    1. Changing the subject again Paul? weak arguments generally need a lot of help.

btw – let’s ask Kellyanne Conway if trump’s personal/family business will be stuck right in the middle of his administration? Did she say anything today germane to the situation?

                    2. never afraid of the clueless. And the trumptator’s idiot comments and actions are wrong regardless of what of Washington and Jefferson did. two wrongs never make a right……unless of course one is a traitor

btw – will you stand up for Kelly Kanne Konway’s ilegal actions? even the ever corrupt Chaiffetz cited her.

                    1. nooooooo, I was being very direct WITH YOU. Scarey I know ;P But I shop at Marshalls AND TJ Maxx. I know who they are. You, clearly, do not. I don’t shop at Nordstroms but it isn’t a political thing. I probably would if I could afford to….on occasion….maybe…oh I dunno I just love a bargain and will drive MILES I tell you, MILES for a great deal, good quality, clean store and well kept merchandise and it helps if there is A GOOD COFFEE SHOP ON THE WAY! ;D

                    2. Wootsy – I buy, I don’t shop. And I will be damned if I have to drive one mile further to get a product that I need. I spend more in gas getting the bargain than I save. If I am shopping for shirts, I find what I like, buy 5 of different colors and run out the store. Now, I don’t have to shop for shirts for at least 18 months.

                  1. “are you sure sure? or are you speculatively sure ?”

Great term, I will have to remember that one.

Speculatively sure, as in ‘I am speculatively sure of these alternative facts because they have the ring of truthiness.”

I think I am getting the hang of this.

    2. Saying Nordstrom’s decision to stop stocking Ivanka’s product line is merely a business decision is like saying the Mendez brothers who murdered their parents deserve sympathy because they are orphans.

For a few months now angry, hateful shitlibs have been boycotting retailers who stock Ivanka’s products, and harassing them on social media. Why? Because they are hateful, angry shitlibs. Normally, products compete in the market based on price, quality, convenience, etc. This boycott is driven purely by hatred. Not for Ivanka. But for her father. By hateful shitlibs.

Many retailers surrendered to the hateful shitlibs. Nordstrom’s didn’t. As recently as December the president of Nordstrom’s said Ivanka’s product line and brand were successful and Nordstrom’s planned to continue to stock them. That enraged the hateful shitlibs. So they doubled down on the hate and harassment. Now Nordstrom’s has reconsidered.

It has absolutely nothing to do with her products being “overpriced garbage” as you assert.

It has everything to do with the primal hatred endemic to being a shitlib.

      1. You have a ridiculous theory built upon pure hate. How sad for you.

Nordstrom’s would have to be intentionally lying to their stockholders for your scenario to be correct. In other words a number of people would have to be putting their jobs/careers on the line to perpetuate a lie almost certain to eventually come out.

Your unsubstantiated position based on the need to debase others is weak. The “alternative/fake news” world controls such weakness. Simply pathetic

        1. Various insiders, who work in the industry and experts in the field, have attested to the fact that her line was NOT, in fact, performing poorly. Like all crazy and delusional libs, you think that YOU, in all of your great and powerful wisdom, know more than them. Typical. You choose to ignore facts with which you disagree. Remember all of those polls, filled with all sorts of numbers, which claimed that Trump had no chance of winning the election? Yeah. You are, obviously, easily fooled by such common games. Numbers can be manipulated and skewed–or, didn’t you know that? Are we all supposed to quiver when you remind us how corporations wouldn’t dare–DARE–lie to the public or, God forbid, lie to their shareholders? Banish the thought! Yes, corporations are virtual beacons of goodness and veracity. They wouldn’t dream of lying to the public. Misleading the public. When the truth does emerge, and it will–that, I promise, it will–where there is unequivocal proof, in the forms or dollars and cents and sales, attributed to Ivanka’s line at Nordstrom’s, in particular, will you admit that the choice, to abandon her line, was purely based on revenge and politics? There is no doubt, whatsoever, that some disgruntled employee–fed up with the lies and the ruse being sold to the public–with access to the true numbers and statistics, will leak the truth. What then? With you, I suspect that you will choose to double down.

      2. “Because they are hateful, angry shitlibs.”

…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, they can’t afford shit anymore because they have been economically compromised by ‘Conservative’ right wing economics (selfish self serving and capitalist undermining….;)
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, they don’t want to support a family that stalks endangered animals and calls it ‘sport’……..
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, they don’t use crap like that in general…..
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, there are better alternatives at a better price….
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, poor whiney things that are used to always getting what they want from Daddy don’t really know how to accept a failed product….
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, get a grip…the Company that bullied the pipeline through is co-owner of another new pipeline that just leaked a SHITLOAD OF OIL….
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, who gives a phuck when the real issue is above board dealings and how about those tax returns??????
…..Ooooooooooorrrrrrrrr, Mr. Trump is saying phuck you to America and all you can see are ….wait for it…….oh yeah, ….”…hateful, angry shitlibs.”

    3. So, Bill W is the beacon of intelligence and the con’s should stop whining! This is the same shyte I read before the election. “How stupid the trumpets were to think that President Trump would ever get elected” and whining, I have yet to see one liber or democrat leader get over the fact the man won the office. The Russians did it, the racist white middle class did it, but she won the popular vote, on and on and on.
When you write some of your “stuff” look in the mirror.

      1. Pismo – quite the tangent, but this has nothing to do with the election. It is simply about a company making a business decision (no longer allowed in fake news world) and trump being unable to separate himself from family business by whining about that business decision. Both trump and yourself should get over it.

        1. Hey Bill I have 4 years to enjoy it not get over it and God willing the President is successful in security, stopping illegal immigration and people getting meaningful work then I want 4 more. I want libs to get over it. This whole thing isn’t over this girls line of clothing its about libs having the air taken out of their balloon and turning to anyway they can to hurt these people. If your truthful you will say yea you have a point and if you don’t believe it come to Jersey I have a great piece of land to sell you outside Giant Stadium. Each time the Dems do something to attack him they attack the people in this country who elected him. He got elected for what reason? Because they didn’t like the way things were headed plain and simple.
I won’t attack you and call you dumb, stupid, whinny. You have your opinion and you have that right. What you call a tangent is the way I interpret the things you write.
Time will tell who and what was right.

      2. There is another column here on PTSD, you should take a look at that. There are some purely natural human responses that occur when people are abused, when people are ‘cheated’, when people are lied to. That whining and speaking out against the injustice of a gerrymandered system that has been perverted to serve only the people in power DESPITE the Constitution which was written and shaped our government to AVOID the crap we are in now…is natural and normal. You know what’s not normal? The phucks who are likely to profit from such intended perversions (much like the street burglars…) trying to cover the tracks and solidify their gains, make a clean gettaway and toss a hearty “GET OVER IT” over their shoulder as they run away like crooked little rats. They are distancing themselves from their crime.

  8. So Trump defends his daughter, blah, blah. How do you feel about Kellyann Conway, a paid adviser to Trump, hawking Ivanka’s products on air today? How do you feel about the massive conflicts of interest? About Melania using her First Lady status to sell her products? That’s the real story, not another inane Trump tweet.

Washington insiders, and JT is one, are having to tread very carefully these days because they still have careers to manage and families to protect. Trump’s comment the other day [give us his name and we’ll destroy his career] was not a joke. Anyone with a three digit IQ knows exactly what he meant.

    1. Most people with integrity are speaking out against theses abuses whether they be independent, republican or democrat.

    2. Conway probably violated the law when she hawked the Trump goods. How many people wear those fancy trump duds anyway?

  9. There should be more of an outrage on how professional politicians manage to amass fortunes serving in office. Let’s do an audit on how much they start office with and what they leave with.
The mans children are being blackballed and he should say nothing? If it was my child I would be pissed. The guy and his family have been attacked since day one for everything and everything.
If this was Obamas kid the press would crucify Nordstrom but because he is a bi-racial President they won’t offend.

  10. Here is the question of the day: Will Donald Trump ever measure up to Give Em Hell Harry?

  11. We need some comments here about Harry S. Truman. He is my favorite President. Ok, he is no longer alive but I refer to his legacy. Kinda like Trump did the other day about some guy who has been dead for a long time but who has a legacy. That legacy word gets a lot of space in the media in recent years. There is always this concern and reference for Obama’s legacy. And a rap that Obama has great concern about his legacy. Obama will go down in history as a great kite flyer and man of physical prowess for his age of 56 or so. Harry Truman will continue to “give em Hell”. So folks, fellow commenters, where did the phrase arise: “Give em Hell Harry”. I’m from Missoura the Show Me State.
I think Trump needs to get stronger in his language to measure up to Harry.

  12. stock going down? hmmmm….

Nordstrom — known on the stock market by its founder John W. Nordstrom’s initials, JWN — began Wednesday at $42.78 per share and by Wednesday afternoon was trading at $44.53 — $1.75 higher, a net gain of 4.09 percent.
    http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=JWN

c’mon people! let’s get on that agenda train.

    1. so, then, as his position is clearly public and his statement imports weight(as proven by the stock wobble…)….does Nordstrom now have the right to sue the President for the accusation he has made? He has cleRLY IMPUGNED THEIR REPUTATION AS A RETAILER AND BUSINESS ENTITY…. [ I understand that there is a Trump lawsuit in the works for all the millions and billions lost by one of those stellar ladies potential future creative endeavors (o.0) because it was made known that she had been an elite escort? Or oh my goodness is this yet another 1 way street with rules enforced to the privelEdge and enjoyment of the few…like is the law just 1 big giant expensive hand job???????

  13. Nordstrom regularly reviews the performance of the over 2000 brands it carries and culls the subperformers.

I occasionally purchase there. A fine store. Incidentally the Nordstrom family started and continues to support the Swedish Hospital in which I was born.

    1. The store has been boycotted by a group called, I think, not my wallet. It must have had an impact.

    2. I can’t counter anything Nordstrom might do because, I can’t. It as never because I I was trying to make a point. My dad was a Senior Chief in the Coast Guard. The priorities were putting a roof over our heads and food on the table. Furniture was a grab bag; we had actual furniture, but for a while we made do with vegetable and fruit crates as well. 1965 was a big year. My dad bought my mom a Plymouth Valiant. With an automatic.

Suffice to say I am not among Nordstrom’s target audience. Nordstrom is the door of the mall I walk into to pick up the carburetor for my chainsaw that I ordered on Sears parts-direct.

    3. I forgot to add, among the priorities was education. You might not know it know, but parents valued education more than furniture.

  14. I can only imagine the sh**storm that will ensue should any retailer ever do the same to one of the Obama daughters. I can hear it now… “racist”, “sexist”, “misogynist”, “hater”, “bully”. With Ivanka… crickets.

  15. Interesting that JT is commenting on 45’s tweets about Nordstrom but not his tweets about the Judiciary.

  16. Darren

So how do you feel about the $100,000 bill Eric handed the taxpayers for his business trip to South American? And how do you feel about Defense having to rent space in Trump Tower because the White House is only a part-time residence for Trump. And it’s probably going to be pretty expensive to wire up and protect the “Winter White House”. You okay with those bills?

      1. Probably not a damn thing, based on how bankruptcies generally work. FFS

    1. That twitter account is federally funded and should not be used to promote one’s daughter’s business or to attack an American business.

    2. We don’t want him here in the City, we voted for the carpetbagger and are fine with her. I don’t think NYC residents should foot any portion of the bill for security for the Occupant of the Oval Office. AND I think until he divests himself of his business interests as have every occupant in decades, we the PEOPLE should be entitled to FREEZEhis assets. Turning governance over to his CHILDREN. What a narcissistic, pompous ass

      1. Jayeno – he has turned his assets over to a revocable trust run by his son and two others. We have never had a President who was branded before. This is a very unusual situation.

    1. “Gorsuch called out Trump…” You have no idea what Gorsuch said, only what a known liar said he said. Such high standards..going into journalism are we?

      1. Ron Bonjean, who is leading communications for Gorsuch during the confirmation process, confirmed Gorsuch called Trump’s tweet about the “so-called judge” “disheartening” and “demoralizing” in his conversation with Blumenthal. So Gorsuch’s staff person is lying .Nice try.

  17. I can’t decide if this is an excellent example of why you don’t want to go into business with the mafia because god help you if you ever want to quit or some new description of what Republicans regard as ‘the free market’.

    1. The tweeter -in-chief even scammed students and then tried to get the judge removed. No wonder Neal Gorsuch called out Trump for his behavior today.

  18. Wow, a first family actually raking it in from their own efforts and not relying on the taxpayers to fund their luxuries. How criminal of them.
