While the United States government often discusses the threat of Iran in spreading Islamic extremism, it is often silent on the same influence of our close allies in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and other countries. Pakistan is reportedly moveing to eviscerate any remaining separation of mosque and state buy making Quran education compulsory in not just public but private schools.
State Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Mohammad Baligh-ur-Rehman proudly unveiled the plan to deny students and their families the basic tenets of freedom of religion by forcing everyone to study the Quran. Once again, it is astonishing how these Islamic countries do not trust their faith to hold followers but must use compulsory and coercive measures to force adherence to Islam. He insisted that studying the Quran would make the nation more prosperous.
Last year, the plan indicated such a compulsory program for public schools. This is clearly broader. The “Islamic Republic” is continuing to indoctrinate students with the adherence to the Quran as a basic element of education.
As long as the spirit of Islam and the Quran is not misused, it if fine to talk a bit about religion in classrooms; the issue is when we move from a secular system to a religious one. It is good for OUR economy. The more Islamic scholars they train the less they will be able to produce themselves and the more they will have to import from those Western infidels.
If they are going to teach from the Koran and it’s Hadiths. They shouldn’t leave out the best parts.

This happens when you guys don’t understand something and try to be professors in it.Surely you are a dumb with no knowledge of literal and contextual meaning,so how on earth are you going to grasp whats in the Quran and Ahadith.
The trend seems to be the expansion of extremism rather than moderation.
The hard line Islamist parties are good for about 6% of the vote in Pakistan.
We have compulsory use of the Koran in our outhouse at the country club. There is not traditional toilet paper and a copy of the Koran is stapled to the wall next to the toilet for folks to tear out pages and wipe with.
Good idea. When there are groups trying to “unglue” the societal bonds, then there needs to be some “re-gluing.” Our country would be better off if such religious instructions in public and private schools, along with a good dose of American history. But, we have that First Amendment which guarantees that weirdos and freaks will be successful in tearing our country up. It don’t take much to convince people to dance around a Golden Calf and have a drunken orgy.

There might be some good principles of life in the Koran. We need to characterize information on whether or not the ideas offered advance the quality of life for those who read them, not whether or not they have historically been characterized as “religion”. The parts that elevate men above women or advance apartheid or white supremacy, in any “information” source, are destructive to humanity, whether it is the new or old “testament”, the Koran, or any set of laws.

I have a crazy idea: instead of covertly interfering in the politics of other countries, instead of sending our best and brightest to risk life and limb in black ops, why not stop all foreign aid? It’s absurd that Pakistan is considered an ally. On what grounds?
On the grounds that they co-operate with us contra real adversaries But let’s subordinate reasons of state to striking attitudes regarding proposed school curricula in a country which is 97% muslim because it makes us feel ‘tough’.
