Nobel Peace Prize Winner Liu Xiaobo Dies In Chinese Custody

Today the world lost one of its most inspiring and courageous figures.  On Thursday,  Liu Xiaobo, the 2010 Nobel Prize recipient and Chinese intellectual, has died at 61 of cancer.  The Chinese government defied the world in keeping Liu under custody as part of its authoritarian, one-party rule.  Liu kept the memory of the  Tiananmen Square massacre alive when the government has sought to wipe out any evidence that the protests even occurred.  He was a tireless defender for civil liberties in a country that rejects the most basic principles of human rights and civil liberties. He declined numerous opportunities to leave the country and live in freedom. He was the ultimate Chinese patriots and the Chinese government has reaffirmed that it remains a blood-soaked dictatorship.  Some day freedom will come to China and the Chinese people will learn of people like Liu who died for their liberty and their future.

Liu died of liver cancer in Shenyang, the city in northeastern China.  The Chinese government prevented him from being with his family as he died.  They also denied him basic medical treatment for cancer. In other words, they killed him.

It won’t work.  Freedom is like water. It finds a way out, even through the thickest of walls.  When that day comes, I only hope that some of these Chinese officials are still alive to answer for the death of of Liu Xiaobo.

Of his many moving writings, this quote should serve to rally a new generation of Chinese civil libertarians:

Tyranny is not terrifying; what is really scary is submission, silence, and even praise for tyranny.”

  1. Most Americans cannot understand how powerful the Chinese government is – they control television and the internet so certain topics simply don’t appear. And the growing middle class is comfortable with this system as long they continue to do well – the last thing they want is billions of peasants having the right to vote.

For the film afficiaonados on this blog there is a beautiful movie called “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” set during the Cultural Revolution where the power of forbidden literature from the West changes their lives.

  2. China is a communist dictatorship. America is fully compatible and has good relations with China because America is also a communist dictatorship.

There really IS a difference between the Preamble, Constitution and Bill of Rights, 1789, and the Communist Manifesto. Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto to replace the Constitution. Marx replaced the right to private property with “redistribution of wealth” and “social engineering.”

The problem with America is that it has voided and nullified its founding documents and implemented all of the principles in the Communist Manifesto.

James Madison defined “private property” as “that dominion which one man claims and exercises over the external things of the world, in exclusion of every other individual.”

“…IN EXCLUSION OF EVERY OTHER INDIVIDUAL.”

Government cannot take private property (i.e. money) from one man to give private property to another.
Affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, social services, forced busing, utility subsidies, WIC, HHS, HUD, HAMP, HARP, Education Dept., Labor Dept., Obamacare, Obamaphones, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and every other form of redistribution of wealth and social engineering are UNCONSTITUTIONAL
(public schools may only be “promoted” federally and paid for locally through user fees).

Government only has the authority to tax for security and infrastructure, not to redistribute wealth.

Charity is voluntary free enterprise conducted in the free markets of the private sector.

Let freedom ring? Not so much.

    1. Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution:

“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States…”

General welfare of the United States. That includes a lot more than just infrastructure.

      1. Promote or advocate, not carry out or conduct, things that ALL people require in similar amounts and frequency such as water, roads, currency, utilities, sewer, etc.
        ________________________________

        Promote General Welfare

Promote = Advocate – Encourage – Not fund or conduct

General = All – Not limited to one or a few

        Wel = Well – Satisfactorily

Fare = Get along – Set forth – travel
        _________________________________

When government takes private property from one man and gives that private property to another man,

it violates the definition of private and voids and nullifies the constitutional right to private property.
        _________________________________

Redistribution of wealth is unconstitutional in all forms.

Redistribution of wealth comports fully with the Communist Manifesto.

You duplicitously deny that the Constitution and Communist Manifesto are different.

      2. LS, the “general welfare” does not include taking money from working citizens to pay for the beer, cigarettes, lottery tickets, drugs, and other wants of the poor. There are a lot of things that the general welfare clause does not include. Note also how the phrase is linked to “common defence.”

        1. General is not individual and individual is not general.

          General welfare is constitutional.

          Individual welfare in unconstitutional.

Private property is not private if it is confiscated, made public and awarded to another party for personal use by that party.

American representatives and the Supreme Court have deliberately nullified and voided the actual, literal words and the spirit of the Preamble, Constitution and Bill of Rights, 1789.

“…IN EXCLUSION OF EVERY OTHER INDIVIDUAL.”

          James Madison on private property:

“…that dominion which one man claims and exercises over the external things of the
world, in exclusion of every other individual.”

It is impossible to take private property from one man to give that private property to another. That is pure nonsense.

Redistribution of wealth was not in the lexicon of the American Founders.

Karl Marx allowed six decades of American freedom and free enterprise without interference by government, decided that he totally disagreed with freedom and free enterprise without interference by government and then created the dictatorial concept of redistribution of wealth, social engineering and central planning.

  3. And the position of our government, both Dem and Repub, regarding dictatorships will continue to be if you’re a dictatorship and poor (Hussein, Gaddafi) you’re evil and must be overthrown but if you’re a dictatorship and you’re rich (Saudi Arabia, China) we love ya!

    1. President Trump must be

“…a dictatorship and poor (Hussein, Gaddafi) you’re evil and must be overthrown…”

because the globalist ruling class is trying its darnedest to overthrow him.

      1. Well, I wouldn’t put Trump in the same place as Hussein and Gaddafi but if you insist! Then again…Hussein did have a habit of putting his sons in charge of things…

        1. Wait. You mean President Trump is a ruthless despot and mass murderer? Geez. I missed that. However, I did find the Clinton Death List on WND.

          http://www.wnd.com/2016/08/clinton-death-list-33-most-intriguing-cases/

And that rare beauty, Chelsea Clinton, when she’s not plagiarizing other authors, sits on the Board of Directors of the Clinton Crime Family, you know, the very same Clinton Crime Family that received substantial contributions from Putin right after Hillary gave him the American uranium deposits in her Uranium One deal.

And how about that Bobby Kennedy workin’ hard as AG for his brother John Kennedy who was ensconced by his “wealthy” father Joe with help from the mob. That got sort of messy, huh?

    2. LS – neither Hussein or Ghadaffi were poor – they made of the mistake of announcing their intentions to go off the petrodollar and trade in gold backed currencies. We love dictactorships so long as they toe the neo lib line.

  4. I don’t know why trading with China is okay when 30 years ago trading with South Africa was treated like a crime against humanity. Apparently denying human rights to an entire country is different from denying them to most of your country.

    1. Umm, maybe things change in 30 years? Just spitballin’ here.

    2. The foofaraw over South Africa was virtue-signalling hype manufactured by the media, tiresome college students, and sundry politicians (e.g. Lowell Weicker). It was just fashion, and not something to be emulated later.

    3. Trading with China is okay since Bill gave them “most favored nation” status. this was to benefit all the corporations who wanted to outsource jobs for cheap labor. Multinational corporations have 0 loyalty to nations. And this is why Obama pushed so hard for the TPP.

  5. I am sure that Chinese leaders repress “protests” in large part to protect themselves and their party’s hold on power. But I can not entirely condemn them for that, because those same Chinese leaders look at us, and what do they see?

Today’s Tiananmen Square peaceful protest is tomorrow’s Berkeley Riots and Antifa-type anarchy. So, why not nip it in the bud?

    1. “[when] those same Chinese leader look at us…what do they see?” They see a reality TV star, completely incompetent, unfit for the job and unable to lead and who lost the popular vote and who is President only because of a throwback provision in the law dating back to the days of slavery. They see a free press that reports on and criticizes him for his illegal conduct, his failure to lead, his undignified conduct, his chronic lying, his immoral behavior and the incompetence and the illegal conduct of his family members. They see dumbass lying Kellyanne who has the credibility of a used car salesman and who is about as popular and welcome as poison ivy. Nevertheless, Fixed Non News puts her on the air anyway. It’s called freedom of the press, and it is a sacred American value.

They also see dipstick bottle blondes who think they have something important to say, even something stupid like implying that the freedom of the press should be curtailed.

      1. The EC may well have had its roots in the days of slavery, but these days it protects the citizens of 48 states from the tyranny of 2. So maybe we don’t need it for slavery anymore, but we sure do need its protection for our votes.

        1. Why should rural voters’ votes count more than urban voters? You have your statistics backward, anyway. Each person’s vote should count equally.

          1. Because rural voters are white and urban voters are minorities. Come on, Nat, keep up!

          2. @Natcha The EC doesn’t equate to the popular vote. [Because this is a federal republic of the States, not a national democracy]. Please recall your 7th-grade Civics.

        2. ‘Our’ votes. I getcha, FFS, winkwink. Those darn minorities, their votes should only count as three-fifths as one of our votes. Amiright.

      2. The Chinese also see a bleached blonde named Hillary who engaged in collusion with Russia and the Ukraine, who hid a private, unprotected server in a basement, who illegally exposed classified information, who engaged in “pay to play”, who accepted donations from the worst of players into a crooked foundation to be used for her own political ambitions, who lied under oath, who became rich by duping others, and who deleted 33,000 E-Mails to hide her illegal transactions. I should also add that this individual’s husband has a history of sexual harassment of women and having a sordid affair with a young girl in the White House, as well as a history of perjury and impeachment, thus bringing shame to the Presidency. This is all but the tip of the iceberg…That’s what the Chinese see. When one compares Trump and his family to the family described above, the Trumps have nothing to be ashamed of!

        1. Where do you get your information–Breitbart? What does Bill Clinton have to do with any of this, anyway? Assuming he does, Bill never bragged about his indiscretions, like the fat, orange loser. Bill is an attorney, he was an effective, popular leader, he rose from humble beginnings, and right now, he has a higher approval rating than the fat orange loser who occupies the White House.

Why do you buy the argument that the 33,000 emails contained illegal transactions? Who told you this, and why do you believe it, anyway? If law enforcement and/or Breitbart do not have the emails, how can they represent what they obtain? Why doesn’t the FBI find it necessary to prosecute her, if it is known that the emails prove criminal activity? What exactly were the “illegal transactions”? Do you have a clue, or any proof, or are you just buying the bull dished out by people like Hannity every time Chump gets caught with his drawers down, which is daily these days? Exactly how did HIllary get rich by duping others? Duping them how, exactly? Why hasn’t she been sued over this?

Chump, Jr. admitted to meeting with the Russians for the purpose of obtaining dirt on Hillary. Manafort and Kushner were there, and Manafort is not a political rookie, nor is he inexperienced. Both Manafort and Kushner lied on their disclosure forms about this meeting that Chump, Jr. admits to. This is just the beginning of the investigation, but please explain to me what Hillary Clinton did that is even remotely comparable to these people allowing a hostile foreign government interfere in our elections.

          1. WOW! Methinks me struck a nerve! Nata-chacha gotcha spouts more vitriolic, liberal lies and propaganda from his/her/its barred room in the “Cuckoo’s Nest”.

Since Bill Clinton lied about but never bragged about his “indiscretions” and assaults on women as Governor and as President, that makes it OK? Give me a break! Who deletes 33,000 E-Mails after they have been subpoenaed unless they are hiding something and thus guilty of wrongdoing? Of course, even though Comey publicly made the case for Hillary’s guilt, he did not prosecute her because Lynch ordered him not to do so after her misguided meeting with Bill on the airport tarmac. In my opinion, Hillary’s sharing of classified information and giving to the Russians 20% of American uranium for donations to the Clinton Foundation is far worse than anything Trump or his family have ever done!

You really need to resume your anger management classes and to avoid fake news CNN, Colbert, NYT, WP, and MSNBC!

    2. I see that you’re enamored with authoritarian regimes. No wonder you like Trump so much.

  6. An inspiring obituary. I’m sure he woukd have lived longer if he weren’t imprisoned. Americans don’t fully appreciate their freedom of speech and assembly. They take it for granted. Liu Xiaobo wanted it and it was denied him. He died for it.

  8. Sadly,, most of the younger people in China are ignorant of the Cultural Revolution and their parents won’t talk about it.
    RIP Liu Xiaobo. 🙁

  9. Now that is a brave hero and martyr. Alive or dead those officials will answer for their choices.
