The Chinese government is searching for a plump counter-revolutionary with a taste for honey and irony. Yes, the Communist regime has banned Winnie the Pooh who is apparently a running dog exploiter bent on turning workers against the one and true Party. The regime learned that the image of Pooh was being used as a surrogate for Xi Jinping as a way of getting around censorship laws (Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo is portrayed as Eeyore). As a result, Pooh and presumably his capitalist overlord Christopher Robin are no longer welcomed in China.
The plump character does have remarkable resemblance to the Chinese leaders except that Pooh does not have labor camps, censors, and spies throughout the 100 acre woods.
Chinese censors are blocking both the name and picture of Pooh to protect the nation.
Some quotes regarding Pooh does show a greedy capitalist at work:
“Pooh always liked a little something at eleven o’clock in the morning, and he was very glad to see Rabbit getting out the plates and mugs; and when Rabbit said, ‘Honey or condensed milk with your bread?’ he was so excited that he said, ‘Both,’ and then, so as not to seem greedy, he added, ‘But don’t bother about the bread, please.’”
He also shows shocking reactionary notions of individuality:
“The things that make me different are the things that make me.”
Yet, other statements would seem perfect for the Chinese regimes in trying to break the Chinese of their thirst for knowledge and freedom:
“Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”
Oh, bother.
Turley, it is Winnie *Ther* Pooh. Christopher Robin said so.
David Benson – a won a few marbles that Winnie’s middle name was THE. I would hate to track those guys down after all these years and give them their marbles back. 😉
You haven’t read the Pooh stories closely enough. 🙂
David Benson – I had them read to me many times, never felt the need to read them for myself. 😉
High time you started.
David Benson – I have no kids so have no need to read them. 🙂 I am more of a non-fiction reader.
Ok. Remain illread.
David Benson – I do not feel that I have to return to my childhood to read a book that was read to me several times. I think of it as listening to an audio book. Do you have a problem with that?
“Didja ever see a catfish riding a yella jackass?” – “Not that I remember. “

And how was I to know… She was with the Russians too?
The Chinese government knows it’s reputation is precarious, so it can’t stand being laughed at.
If that’s the case they shouldn’t have banned Wiinie the Pooh. It just makes them look even more ridiculous. Are they taking lessons in stupidity from Trump?
We have similar types here as with Florida’s Governor Scott, the most vile and fraudulent thief that every held office, who won’t allow government employees to reference global warming or climate control, or anything that alludes to the earth’s climate changes. We have our own home grown travesties.
Sad that there are so many ignorant people elected to office in this godforsaken country.
Maybe the Chinese government censors will bag themselves a Heffalump.
good
Another article, this time about real-time censorship of images.

Blocking access to phrases containing Winnie the Pooh serves only a temporary measure. Another will generate and the government will once again be back to square one. Sure they can attempt to block it. But once individuals have a taste for free expression that want is greatly difficult to curtail.
If they censored Winnie the Pooh they must have thought there was some truth in the resemblance berween Pooh Bear and X Jinping. The Chinese should be ashamed to be seen as such empty headed fools.
Right on.
The censors have to have something to do to fill their hours. Too bad it isn’t hunting for weezles.
That hunt would be over anytime one of them passed a mirror.
If they look at it.
True that. They might not be able to see themselves in one. It’s that Bela Lugosi thing.
mespo – that was my thinking. But then I began to think I over thunked it. Too many movies will do that to you.
Rightttttt … favor the Panda over the cuddly Brit. Xenphobes.
Well …… that is all I can say about this. Some people have way too much time on their hands.
