Going Full Springer: Scaramucci’s Tirade Sends White House Staff And GOP Members Scrambling For Cover

White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Thursday  has left the Trump Administration staggering around Washington with no one clearly in control of the staff and, ironically, an increase in leaks about Scaramucci and fears of the President’s staff.  In the meantime, the crude comments of Scaramucci have undermined any effort of the White House to convey strength after the stinging defeat of the “skinny” health care bill.  With Republicans in open revolt, the Scaramucci controversy conveys a team in disarray and division. This was the worst possible time to go full Jerry Springer.

Scaramucci went nuclear in a telephone call to New Yorker writer Ryan Lizza.  He was calling after Lizza printed another leak.  “Who leaked that to you?” Scaramucci demanded.  He seemed to want something that would have been deeply unethical for Lizza to give: his source.  Scaramucci reportedly said

“I ask these guys not to leak anything, and they can’t help themselves. You’re an American citizen, this is a major catastrophe for the American country. So I’m asking you as an American patriot to give me a sense of who leaked it.”

If that bizarre request was not enough, the conversation appears on the record.  Usually such calls are off the record, but for whatever reason (inexperience or indifference) it does not appear that Scaramucci made the common reservation.  Scaramucci later said “I made a mistake in trusting in a reporter. It won’t happen again.” Really?  It appears he missed the Truman advice of, if you need a friend in Washington, get a dog.  On the list of possible soulmates, reporters (whose job it is to report) are near the very bottom.

Scaramucci later said that he would try to be more restrained in the future: “I sometimes use colorful language. I will refrain in this arena but not give up the passionate fight for ‘s agenda.

Scaramucci threatened a scorched earth police to find the leaker: “What I’m going to do is, I will eliminate everyone in the comms team and we’ll start over.”  He ended up torching himself.

Scaramucci made clear that his scorched earth policy had no limits: “They’ll all be fired by me. I fired one guy the other day. I have three to four people I’ll fire tomorrow. I’ll get to the person who leaked that to you. Reince Priebus – if you want to leak something – he’ll be asked to resign very shortly.”

The irony is that the leak that set off Scaramucci was relatively minor.  There was going to be a dinner with top people.  He clearly blamed and parodied Priebus:  “‘Oh, Bill Shine is coming in. Let me leak the fucking thing and see if I can cock-block these people the way I cock-blocked Scaramucci for six months.’”

What makes this call particularly weird is that it seems like Scaramucci needed a cathartic release but why pick Lizza rather than someone like Sanders or a close cousin back in New York?

That catharsis also turned to Bannon.  He reportedly told Lizza: “I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own cock. I’m not trying to build my own brand off the f***ing strength of the president. I’m here to serve the country.”

The result was that a smoldering White House burst into full flames.  Staffers told reporters that they were fearful of going into the office after Scaramucci pledged to “kill’ them.  That fears seems a tad overblown.  Many have called Scaramucci politically suicidal but there is no evidence that he is actually homicidal.

In the end, the episode shows just how untethered this Administration has become.  When you have Republican Senators threatening that suggested actions like the firing of Mueller would be the beginning of the end of the Trump Administration and others bolting on key health care votes after personal contacts from the President, this latest self-inflicted wound could not be more serious. In a town where a President must represent a clear and present threat to those who oppose him in his own party, you have Republicans trying to get a safe blast distance away from Trump and his staff.

  1. FYI, Jerry Springer is a LEFTIST. So you should love it, JT, whenever someone goes “full Springer.”

    1. @ Ralph Adamo
What, exactly, is a “LEFTIST,” why do you think that Springer is one, and how is his being one or not relevant to JT’s comparing Scaramoochi’s behavior vis a vis Ryan Lizza to that of one of the Springer show’s guests?

      1. Leftists advocate transferring money from non-leftists to leftists. They also want to import more illegal immigrants. They want to expand Islamism in the USA. They want to destroy the family. They people to be pliant, passive, obedient to the objectives of leftist and to follow and obey the media controlled by corporate socialists. They want to take away guns from non-leftists. They want to crush the free speech of non-leftists. I could go on, but if you don’t get the picture by now, they you are an ultrasubcretin. If you don’t know what that is, look up “ultra,” “sub,” and “cretin,” and then put them all together.

JT claims that Scaramucci has gone “full Springer.” Since Springer is a Leftist (which you can easily look up for yourself to verify if you were not so lazy), as is JT, JT should logically love it when anyone goes “full Springer.”

In view of their common spiritual commitment to such a multitude of heinous sins, rather than calling such people “LEFTISTS,” even in all caps, wouldn’t it be more accurate and germane to refer to them as “EVILDOERS”? 🙂

You write, “JT claims that Scaramucci has gone ‘full Springer.’ Since Springer is a Leftist (which you can easily look up for yourself to verify if you were not so lazy), as is JT, JT should logically love it when anyone goes ‘full Springer.’ ”

I asked you what you mean when you assert that Springer is a “LEFTIST” (an egregiously “left” kind of “leftist,” I gather), to which you reply, “Look him up,” and then laughably tax me, rather than yourself, with being “lazy.”

And notwithstanding your superior (non-ultrasubcretin) intellectual powers, you seem to have somehow missed the rather important point that JT was not implicitly comparing Springer (whatever his political orientation) with Scaramucci, but was comparing some of Springer’s guests’ behavior with that of Scaramucci.

Inasmuch as you, on the other hand, want to compare Springer and Scaramucci (and JT), are you suggesting that Scaramucchi’s profane tirade is evidence of a “leftist” political affinity between the two men, and that JT should “logically love” that affinity, being (by your implication) a “leftist,” himself?

          1. You ask a lot of questions. I’ll answer a couple of them.

Because most people are fixated on the left-right political paradigm, I’ve adopted that simplistic approach, but have modified and improved the definitions. For example, in the old days (and even today for those “not in the know”), people commonly say that “Communists” are on the left and “Nazis” are on the right. This is incorrect. Communists and Nazis are simply different, competing brands of the same authoritarian category, like Coke and Pepsi are subcategories of carbonated cola drinks. They are simply variants of socialism. Their values and methods are identical and they each have a fondness for mass murder as a solution.

Now, someone like JT would argue to you that he doesn’t identify with either of the above leftist entities. Instead, he would say he’s a liberal. But “liberal” is simply “leftist light”–like Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. JT is really in favor of those same extremist authoritarian values (if we may call them “values”), but he likes to masquerade as a “humanist” and a “good guy,” because he feels better about himself under that phony rubric. But JT and Springer are no different. They simply believe that instead of turning the stove full boil to Leftism, that the leftist temperature is incrementally increased, so the frogs (representing the masses) are not frightened and are, instead, humanely led to their slaughter.

Actually, Scarmucci, like JT himself, is a Leftist in drag. Scaramucci, for example, has been a big fan of gun control.

But, in any event, it doesn’t matter now. He’s out.

            1. Thanks for your much more thoughtful response, Ralph.

I can’t see, however, how it will assist people in overcoming their “fixation” with the left-right paradigm to continue using it, as you have, but I’m glad that you see how misleading it is in analyzing political ideologies and behaviors. Are you saying, as I do, that where someone falls on a libertarian-authoritarian spectrum is much more explanatory and predictive of political behavior than the left-right one, or do you have a third such spectrum in mind?

  2. He’s just another impulsive guy like trump. He’ll serve as a distraction for a few months then trump will shame him publicly, and he’ll fight back. Let the rumpus begin!

  3. Derek Harvey was the key figure when it came to the Middle East. He was against the Iran Deal and the funding of Palestinian Authority terror. He called out Islamic Jihad. He tried to force out the Obama holdovers running our foreign policy.

    And now he’s gone.

McMaster’s purge at the NSC continues. Flynn’s people get forced out and replaced with establishment zombies. The Obama holdovers continue to run foreign policy. The swamp is now in full control of the NSC.

This one is a really big win for McMaster. And a great loss for America. It will set back our ability to fight Islamic terrorism. Iran, Al Qaeda and the Palestinian Authority are celebrating today.

President Trump can reverse his decision. Just as he overruled McMaster’s bid to replace Ezra Watnick-Cohen, the guy who outed the Obama spying on Trump’s people, with the woman who drafted the Benghazi talking points. Not to mention Mattis’ plan to bring in Hillary’s Secretary of Defense and the Muslim Broptherhood’s favorite woman.

But Mattis and McMaster have forced out Derek Harvey. And it’s up to President Trump to act. Or to let the McMaster-Mattis swamp control his foreign policy. And make sure it’s Jeb Bush’s foreign policy. More…..
