Trump’s Test: Here Is The Montreal Cognitive Assessment

donald_trump_president-elect_portrait_croppedPresident Donald Trump made a reference in an interview yesterday about his “highest score” on his cognitive testing.  He told Reuters that former Presidents Obama, George W. Bush and Clinton failed to deal with North Korea and added “I guess they all realized they were going to have to leave it to a president that scored the highest on tests.” Trump is referring to the fact that he is the first president to agree to a cognitive test (which was a good idea and he received a perfect score). For many of us who are unfamiliar with the test, I looked into it.  The test is elementary but it does have a high accuracy in detecting problems like dementia.  However, for those not familiar with the  Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the test details are below.

The 30-point test asks people to identify drawings of a lion and a rhinoceros or draw a simple cube.  The subject may also be asked to recall a handful of words or repeat a short list of numbers.  This is not an intelligence or psychological test.

Image: Moca TestNevertheless, the Cochrane Collaboration review found that the test detected 94 percent of people with dementia.

I actually do not see why all presidents should not have basic cognitive and psychological testing with their physical exams.  This test does not offer much information beyond counter-indicating such things as dementia. However, even this is much more than what was available for prior presidents.

  1. After taking a long time to read most of the above comments….all I can say is this…..
I am SOOOOOOO happy that I live in Canada, and a proud native born Canadian ! I am very thankful that our government is stable and that our leaders aren’t ”warmongers” like Trump, Kim Jung Un and many others. I feel VERY SAFE, living here in Canada., and a big part of that is that normal citizens are not legally allowed to carry handguns, pistols, on their person, nor are any citizens legally allowed to purchase and possess Assault Rifles. To use hadguns and pistols a citizen must go to a licensed shooting range, in Ontario. Hunting Rifles must be registered with the govt,, that hunter must take courses to obtain and Hunting Licence, and are only allowed to hunt deer and moose during our hunting season in the Fall. Farmers can have shotguns or rifles, still licensed, to kill wolves and foxes that attack and kill their livestock.
    Gun laws in Ontario
To purchase a handgun or other restricted firearm, a person must have a restricted possession and acquisition licence (RPAL) for restricted firearms. Canada’s federal laws severely restrict the ability of civilians to transport restricted or prohibited (grandfathered) firearms in public.

This is our city….a very clean and safe place to live, population approx. 50,000, located on the north shore of LAKE ONTARIO, waterfront is on the Bay of Quinte. A very safe place to live!

  2. Some guy broke into my house the other night. So I did the logical thing. I told him to sit down at my kitchen table. I prepared a great meal for him, gave him all the money in my wallet. Of course I gave him a credit card. The I got in touch with my employer so I could put him on my health insurance. And I thought the proper thing to do was to put him as a beneficiary of my life insurance policy. Did I miss anything, oh yes, I proceeded to get some psychiatric help.

  3. It picked up my father’s Alzheimer’s Disease. We went from the test to a specific CT scan. We knew he was having problems but did not realize we were dealing with either dementia or AD until the test.

  4. Today, journalist Susan Wright at Red State described an arm of the NRA, which is not required to disclose its donors. $30 mil. was spent to support Trump, 3 times the amount that was spent for Romney. The links among Russian banker Alexander Torshin, D.C. politicians, the NRA, and Torshin’s interest to investigative bodies, are all part of Wright’s research which relies in part on McClatchy reporting.

  5. Snarky Mark,…
There are some detailed, specific posts here that contain actual information.
And viewpoints that are supported by that information.
It’s relatively easy for some fool to jump in periodically and wish it all away with a Pravda/ Faux News remark.
If you can’t absorb what is presented here, evaluate it, and come back with anything other than the moronic “Pravda” criticism, it reveals some serious limitations on your part.
I can’t do anything about that, or your incredible bitchiness and laziness.
But when you specialize in that type of comment, I’ll eventually point out just how lame, bitchy, and lazy you are.
    Happy trolling, Snarky Marky Mark

  6. There’s a fascinating article at Media Matters by Timothy Johnson. He references reporting by McClatchy involving the NRA’s unprecedented level of spending in the 2016 presidential campaign, a Russian banker, Alexander Torshin, and…

Just to ensure everyone knows that heavily slanted is about the extent of Linda’s veracity.

  7. For Linda and others that have a problem recognizing some of the benefits of the tax law. I am only copying a few companies. There are many more and this is just a beginning along with many people that might keep a couple of thousand dollars in their pockets.

Walmart raised its minimum wage to $11 an hour and issued bonuses up to $1,000.
Fiat Chrysler issued $2,000 bonuses and now plans to build a Ram factory near Detroit, Michigan, with production set to start in 2020.
BB&T raised its minimum wage from $12 to $15 an hour and issued $1,200 bonuses.
Southwest Airlines issued $1,000 bonuses and donated $5 million to charity.
    Comcast issued $1,000 bonuses.
Fifth Third Bank raised its minimum wage to $15 an hour and issued $1,000 bonuses.
    JetBlue issued $1,000 bonuses.
U.S. Bank raised its minimum wage to $15, issued $1,000 bonuses, and donated $150 million to the U.S. Bank Foundation.
Wells Fargo raised its minimum wage to $15.

    1. At last count there are at least 162 companies who have taken these types of actions in response to the new law. But, hey, it only helped the evil rich people and corporations, right?

      1. Saw Jamie Diamond got a 25 million bonus and some workers got 15 an hour and some got laid off. Ain’t it grand.

        1. I guess it depends on which propaganda you are watching and if you are stupid enough to believe them.

      2. Just to point out one shortcoming of your list: Walmart bumped the minimum wage but then closed 63 stores. Don’t fall for the ole okie-doke; stay on point.

this is to “but Hannity didn’t tell me that part” allan

        1. Quip from the internet- “Sean Hannity was robbed. He didn’t get a Fake News award for his Seth Rich story”

        2. They are doing more online. Expect retail in brick and mortar stores to decline. You are just too far behind to understand economic trends.

          1. Allan,…
There are over 4,000 WalMart stores in the U.S., and about 6300 counting stores in other countries.
In that context, the closure of 63 stores is a fairly minor development.
I don’t know the details of those stores, but it’s likely that they were badly underperforming.

    2. Just to mention one of problems with the rosy picture Allan tries to paint – the number of Sam’s Clubs closing.

        1. Eric Schmidt of Google told a reporter that his wealth wasn’t because he was brilliant, that luck had a lot to do with it. After 17 years at Google, Schmidt is $14 bil. richer. Last year, allegedly, Schmidt was behind firings at New America (an oligarchy think tank). Reportedly, the employees who were fired wrote a report saying that tech companies have too much power.

        2. Exactly to the top of the government party a single entity while you hocuspocus Wrangel about stupid propanda. You deserve to get shafted so here it is. I’m going to declare this officially BOHICA Day. You will not be allowed to check the sand for vaseline you will be required to bend over. Happy now?

      1. Linda, The question is not whether something is closing rather why.

You don’t know what creative destruction is. You think it is bad. Others call it progress. that is why instead of stables on every street in a city there are garages. Online sales are replacing some brick and mortar.

        Your ignorance is showing again.

        1. “cash deploying” and “creative destruction”, you and Tom are keeping me in stitches. fyi- it’s creative disruption

          1. “Creative destruction, sometimes known as Schumpeter’s gale, is a concept in economics which since the 1950s has become most readily identified with the Austrian-American economist Joseph Schumpeter who … Wikipedia”

Creative disruption is a different entity.

            Oooops, you goofed again.

            1. Tough to foresee Republicans quoting economics theory from the 40’s when they have Laffer, trickle down, and catchy slogans like disruption.

Allan, dig deep into that economics pool and explain how the use of business profits to influence politics fits with free enterprise creating better products. And, identify how long U.S. monopolies exist, enriching their owners, say like the six Walmart heirs who have wealth equivalent to 40% of Americans combined.

              1. “Tough to foresee Republicans quoting economics theory from the 40’s when ”

It so happens to be present economic theory. The basis of your theories originated from the 19th century and been proven to be a failure over and over again.

I would be glad to delve into any theory you wish, but the problem is you always go off on a tangent or other random thoughts without directly responding. When you feel up to having a real discussion instead of repeating soundbites let me know.

          2. Linda,…
You might find it more productive if you actually follow the news, and economic activity.
You’re too busy reciting slogans to see, or understand, actual developments.
Yesterday I explained to you that the $38 Billion tax bill Apple will pay is greater than the “zero” tax dollars you claimed will result from repatriating cash.
That seems pretty basic..nearly as basic as the concept that 2+2= 4.
If someone keeps insisting that 2+2= 5, I’m not going to waste a hell of a lot of time explaining that to them, or debating the point.
You draw conclusions based primarily on your “beliefs”, rather than any serious, or even basic, analysis based on facts.
It’s a self-delusional, self-perpetuating cycle for you, where your “beliefs” require you to ignore any inconvenient developments that might not support your beliefs.

            1. As far as Apple is concerned they rode the Irish Miracle until the Irish wised up and billed them and now they want to run back home and beg for cover. I can see a bill in Congress to replace all the lost funding Apple claims because they are too big to fail. Now Apple put out a good product at tone time grossly overpriced and that was the other side of their bysiness model

Trails along behind them Microsoft whose former CEO says get it on the market fix it later and talks not only his entire ‘campus’ but also the government in letting them commit conspiracy to defraud.

The both got away with it but unlike Bezos who learned a lesson watching the other two they either didn’t provide anything or made it too expensive

Bezos saw another wave coming that of federal bankruptcy with millions unable to buy food due to devaluation of the dollar in the magnetic wheel barrow. Preceded by Walmart and tag teaming with the dollar stores they snatched at least a moral victory from the jaws of de feet of the money is free speech crowd.

So Gates doubles his weatlh, and 30% loss of buying power is for hiim a 40% increase and does what? Starts lauding socialism??? Why not those sucks can be bought off with words easier than cash. So much for Mr big time Democrat.

I’m for giving the left it’s wish and that was for martial law. Then giving it to them withi both barrels.

            2. Why, then don’t. Regurgitated clap-trap from Pravda Faux News shills contributes nothing to the discussion. Rather, see how that fiction plays on the second Wednesday of November.

This is to “comrades, post more, we must save trump’s cronies” tommie

              1. Mark M.,
-I once thought that you, might have something going on upstairs.
                Sorry for that mistake.
I gave you more credit than you deserve in your ability to make anything but a dumb comment.
If “Pravda Faux News” statements are your “argument”, it shoes how lame and dumb youd comments are.
This is to off-the-Mark-oh-so-clever Marky Marky.

                1. I’m able to compare daily what you people are being spoon-fed on Pravda. All the news channels are shown at my gym. It’s laughable what you people believe are newsworthy stories.

this is to “if it’s bad for my team, it’s fake” tommie

            3. Numbers- it’s estimated that Apple has $246 bil. offshore in low tax countries. $38 bil. is 15% of the total.
The European Union forced Ireland to start collecting from Apple. Instead of Trump’s 15.5% encouraging Apple’s decision, Cooke can anticipate the political future that faces exploitive corporate giants. One clue here in the U.S. is Tom Cotton who had to resort to threats of cease and desist letters to try to curb his angry constituents.

Tim Cook accepted worker dormitories with nets around them to prevent worker suicides. There’s nothing he can ever do to even the cosmic score.

              1. The corporate tax rate in Ireland is about 12.5%.
                It was 35% in the U.S.— I think it’s
21% under the new tax law.
Apple was apparently given massive tax breaks in Ireland, where the company was paying nowhere near even the low 12.5% corporats rate in Ireland.
It looks like Apple has agreed to retroactively pay a higher rate, due to an EU ruling that they were undertaxed in Ireland for years.
It looks like Mike Arethun has followed this fairly closely….he may expand on, or correct, my summary of the Apple/Ireland tax issues.

                1. But by coming back to the USA under the new laws they can deduct that Irish fine as overhead.

              2. Who estimated and what the hell is a cosmic score some left wing, mystical other world fairytail.?

      2. Sam clubs are 12% of the total businesses and produced the least revenue. Of the stores closed many are being selected to provide fulfillment centers for their thriving mail order business. Number laid off compared to total number of workers? Miniscule.

      3. Why is it a problem? Exactly they close 63 to be exact operating at a loss convert to fulfillment centers and retain most of the employeees. Amount affect was minimal to beginwith compared to the one million employees Walmart has in it’s entire operation. About one / onethousandth were affected.

  10. “The test, which is used to identify early stage Alzheimer’s, was created by a Lebanese-Canadian immigrant.” -Montreal Gazette

    Montreal Gazette

    http://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/donald-trumps-a-fan-what-is-the-montreal-cognitive-assessment-test

“The White House, in an attempt to dispel concerns about Donald Trump’s mental state, is highlighting the results of a test developed by a Canadian immigrant from Lebanon.

“The Montreal Cognitive Assessment, which identifies light impairment or the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, was designed by neurologist Ziad Nasreddine in the 1990s.

“The test consists of a series of basic tasks like drawing a clock, counting down from 100 in increments of seven, naming words that start with a given letter and remembering words.

“At a press briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Ronny Jackson announced that Donald Trump had achieved a perfect 30 out of 30 score on the test. For context, a “normal” result is 26 out of 30.

“The irony of the Trump administration pointing to a test devised by an immigrant was not lost on Nasreddine, whose family came to Canada during Lebanon’s civil war.

“I think immigrants can be proud that they are contributing,” he told the Canadian Press. “And this is a good example, I think, that will be helpful to change views about immigration. And maybe for Mr. Trump himself to consider immigrants as contributors to advancing science, advancing our societies.””

    1. Was the test designed by an illegal immigrant, anonymous? Because it is the illegal immigration issue that President Trump is trying to solve.

The written site also was using dated items about ten years out of date.

          And your point was?????

      2. https://www.vox.com/2018/1/18/16897358/racism-donald-trump-immigration

“The most important phrase uttered during President Donald Trump’s infamous immigration deal meeting last Thursday wasn’t the one about people from “shithole” countries. It was: “Why do we want people from Haiti here?” It came along with Trump’s statement that America should want more immigrants from countries like Norway.

“In other words: Why can’t we have more white immigrants, and fewer nonwhite ones?

“Trump isn’t just expressing what some conservatives view as “politically incorrect” sentiments. He — and, importantly, members of his staff — is embracing what used to be a fringe theory held by the furthest of the far right — one that holds that white people are being systematically “erased” by their inferiors, and thus require an influx of white babies and new white immigrants (and the exclusion of nonwhite immigrants) to survive.

“To some among these believers, white Americans, and white culture, are threatened by a slow-running “genocide” via demographic replacement. (Indeed, Trump once retweeted someone with the handle “WhiteGenocide,” which refers to this theory.)

      3. Reading comprehension is a skill which can be improved. I understand that Pravda Faux News has likely not mentioned the orange buffoon’s effort to decrease legal immigration, but if you’re going to make a fool of yourself here, you might want to seek out your own information.

this is to “foxy but uninformed” sierra

    2. Other than restating yesterdays news was there any point other than ……nothing

    3. Actually, it underscores the need for merit-based immigration.

If he came from Lebanon during the war, is he a Christian who escaped being massacred by the Muslims who ethnically cleansed Lebanon? Or was he a Muslim who didn’t want to ethnically cleanse Christians?

Cleaver. Learned. Open to Western Culture.

Check, check, check = beneficial immigration.

It is a straw man argument to claim that immigration reform means anti-immicration. Rather, it means that immigration should be reformed so as to benefit the country. Trumps own grandparents, I think it was, were immigrants. 2 of his wives have been immigrants. He’s not anti-immigrants. He’s anti-illegal immigrant, and he’s also trying to stop the spread of crime and extremism across the border.

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating, we need more Malala Yousafzai, not the more of the Taliban who shot her.

It is humorous to see the Left enjoying a gotcha moment that they fabricated out of thin air, as if an immigrant inventing anything is proof that Trump was wrong, when it underlines the need to welcome people who benefit the US over those who would harm her.

      1. “A 2011 Government Accountability Office report found that criminal aliens were convicted of 69,929 sex offenses between fiscal years 2003 and 2009.”

        1. Assuming arguendo your statistic is somehow accurate, the proper context is missing. First, clarify what you mean by “criminal” alien. There is no such category in the DOJ database. Second, once you are able to identify what a “criminal” alien is, you need to post the per capita sex offense rate of this population; then, compare it to the per capita sex offense rate of American citizens. We both know what that statistic would reveal, don’t we? Finally, not that your word wouldn’t be trusted, but citations to authority would be necessary, of course.

this is to “I usually just make stuff up” allan

          1. Marky Mary Mark – any illegal alien is a criminal and therefore falls into your category.

            1. Not true. Research the federal statutes. Re-entry after deportation is a criminal offense; but not just being here otherwise.

this is to “I bought multiple shares of Pravda Faux News today” paulie-georgie

              1. Moreover, you, like most trump-bots, are easily distracted by the irrelevant. the sex offender issue was the main topic of discussion.

this is to “whatever takes the focus off the imbecile” paulie-georgie

              2. Marky Mark Mark – being here originally is a misdemeanor, after being deported is a felony. Both are crimes. If you took criminal law you should remember that.

                1. Not entering at a port of entry is a misdemeanor the first go ‘round. Then it’s a felony and don’t get me started about presenting false documents.

          2. Anyone who commits a felony or a misdemeanor of either category can be classified as a criminal. Depending on the jurisdiction. ONLY the federal government has jurisdiction on borders. States have zero jurisdiction on national borders and nothing to say about anything. The same would apply between a state and a county or a county and a city. .While illegal entry is a misdeanor it also helps to now which level

for example, punishments for misdemeanors will generally look like the following:

Class 1 or A: Fines of up to $5,000, and/or a jail sentence of up to 12 months.
Class 2 or B: Fines up to $1,000, and/or a jail sentence of 6-9 months.
Class 3 or C: Fines up to $1,000 and/or a jail sentence of up to 3 months.
            Class 4 or D:

Classes of Misdemeanors | LegalMatch Law Library
            http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/classes-of-misdemeanors.html

While misdemeanors carry fewer punishments than felonies, like felonies, they stay on your criminal record for life — which means that misdemeanors can show up on background checks. That said, whether or not your misdemeanor will show up on your background check is entirely dependent on how thorough the check is conducted.

Another misconception is expunged or sealed or deleted. None of that is entirely true. A classic and common example is a recruiter for the miitary has complete access to for records of all levels adult and juvenile. At best the term refers to level of access.
