Pakistani Government Warns Media Not To Cover Valentine’s Day As An Offense To Islam

240px-Antique_Valentine_1909_01Pakistan continues to show the world that it remains on the course of Islamic extremism and increasingly intolerant of free exercise and free speech.  Now the Pakistani government is warning media not to cover the increasingly popular Valentine’s Day celebrations.  Islamic clerics have declared the Western holiday to be an offense to Islam.  None of these clerics or government officials appear concerned that there is a far greater danger to Islam if it is threatened by people wanting to exchange Valentines or throwing parties.

 

Most religions treat the holiday as benign, if not positive for relationships.  More importantly, most countries treat the decision to observe such a holiday as an individual choice.  The Islamic-controlled government in Pakistan however routinely denies such human rights to religious minorities.

In its warning to publishers and broadcasters, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) writes that “respondents are directed to ensure that nothing about the celebration of Valentine Day and its promotion is spread on the Electronic and Print Media.”  Officials have also led events burning symbols of Valentine’s Day and denouncing celebrants as virtual apostates.

 

Abdul Waheed actually filed one of the petitions seeking to bar his neighbors from celebrating the holiday because Valentines’ Day observance is “against the teachings of Islam and should be banned immediately.”  Thus, Waheed is irate that others are not forced to follow his religious beliefs — the very definition of oppression.

  2. Of course the imams oppose Valentine’s Day. Why would those teaching others to subjugate women and treat them as less then men support a holiday in which women are courted, pampered, given gifts and flowers, and told they are beautiful? Why ever would they support a holiday loved by women?

    Honestly, the centuries’ old obsession with controlling women and worrying about what they think, want, or do or how they dress is creepy. I know the Persian women are pushing back, and the Saudi women are at least daring to drive. What do Pakistani women want?

    1. When dealing with the perpetually outraged, no amount of accommodation will suffice to placate them. The better course of action is to do and say whatever you wish despite these folks. With that approach only one party is upset.

  5. Seems EVERYTHING is an offense to Islam, yet rape and marriage to a 9 year old is perfectly OK.. Pretty sick if you ask me.

      1. I blame it on the Darjeeling Tea, which I had for the first time last night. I have been messed up ever since the percolator came in late Monday afternoon, and I just had to try it out. Oh, strong coffee late in the day! Sooo, yesterday I laid off the coffee, even though an antique-y percolator came in, and I was just dying to try it out.

        1. Squeeky – are you using loose tea or bagged? A lot of that bagged tea is decaffeinated. Let me know how the new percolator does.

            1. Squeeky – Rule 1 – let the coffee cool until you can drink it. 🙂 You will be okay in a couple of days but your phone calls are going to a little strange. 😉

              1. They are better now. I just stuck my tongue out a little to see if it was too hot. It was! Sooo, I looked up online to get some tips about vintage percolators discovered I screwed up by not turning it off when steam started coming out of the spout. Plus, I think I put too much water in it. But the coffee is more satisfying in a way.

                My second vintage one came in today, sooo now I have three of them! One vintage one is supposedly from the 1940s, and it has a roundish 12-sided body, with a flaired bottom and little wheels. Plus, it has a glass thingy on top where you can watch the coffee bubbling up. The new one has a solid top. The one that came in today, is a Farberware one, that looks like this:

                It is really solid, and I will use it tomorrow, if the cord fits. If not, I will have to buy a cord first. Why in the world did people stop using these things???

                1. I am a believer in buying vintage whenever possible. If you can find new old stock that’s the best option. The fact is they last and are not constructed cheaply as most products are today.

                  Though I seldom drink coffee, I also have a vintage percolator I purchased online, as well as a hand-mixer and various pots & pans. We also have an Farberware electric fry pan passed down from my mother. It’s about fifty years old and works fine. And lastly, twenty years ago I bought a Royal all-metal upright vacuum and aside from a few scratches it works like new. The sweet spot to buy these vacuums is between 1996 and 2002. After 2003 they are made in China and before that the bearings on the motor require a few drops of oil occasionally. If one’s regular plastic bells-and-whistles gimmicky vacuum reaches its three year lifespan I recommend buying a refurbished Royal. The vacuums supply plenty of suction & agitation and are built strongly. The only drawback between this vacuum and today’s is that in order to use the various attachments, the belt must be first removed. The accessories are not easy to come by but they appear online occasionally.

                  1. I had to get my dryer fixed, and while online found a lot of people talking about buying old Maytag washers, and Amanas, and refrigerators, too. Because they last longer, and are not cheaply made. One thing that sticks out was that the old appliances had smooth metal and more coats of paint, and would not rust out as easily. Personally, I have bought 3 or 4 Mr. Coffees over the past 5 years. I get the same model each time, the simple on/off one, so that I can use the carafes, and ground holders. On one of them, the plastic around the hot plate simply disintegrated. In about 18 months. But why?

                    Because the company has to keep sales up, to pay the debt. So, they can’t make a machine that will last for years. Some of these percolators OTOH, are still working 100 years later! I have heard the same things about refrigerators only lasting 3 or 4 years.

                    It looks to me like if we want to be “green”, we should demand appliances that are repairable, and that are built out of quality parts. Often, the difference between quality parts and “pot metal” is only a few cents or a few dollars. Some guitar players will buy cheaper guitars, and then replace the pickups, the tuners, and the nut, and the pots, and the bridge. Which you can viably do as long as the body is well made, and the neck is straight. Usually, less than $200. Which, the difference between a Gibson 335 and a 335 clone can be $2,000 or more.

                    One thing that seems to coming out of China that is good, are many of their guitars. I have gotten several Epiphones that are excellent. Like my Casino and the Sheraton II. Even the Dot Studio rules. I have some more expensive American made guitars, and believe me, these hold up quite well to them.

    Whether we agree with their beliefs or not, Gay Pride Parades (for the most part) are well… gay. Happy. Bright. Enthusiastic and peaceful. They march around with rainbow flags, wear really weird clothing, and tell everybody how proud they are to be gay. Annoying? Most certainly, especially if you feel as though they’re shoving an agenda down your throat. But these marches tend to keep it fairly peaceful.

    When you start putting Sweden, Muslims, and Antifa into the mix, however, you have a recipe for disaster. Recently in Stockholm Sweden, a Gay pride event was held that caused a bit of controversy. Everything was going great until someone made a wrong turn. Specifically, those participating in the march entered a predominantly Muslim territory. What happened next is a little confusing, to say the least.

    Antifa (short for Anti-Fascists) hit the scene, and they were not at all pleased with the locations the Gay Pride marchers were choosing. Why? Because it was living proof that Muslims don’t support gays. Instead, in their own countries, they throw them off of bridges and stone them to death.One Sweedish Antifa member (clearly supporting communism) had this to say in an interview promoted by VFN:

    “It’s a propagation against the Muslim population here. I think it’s a private thing what gays do in the bed.”

    Antifa began calling out those in the march, saying how they’re “fascist” and “in the wrong”. The reporter who covered the event noted how some people were saying it was “a PR stunt, aimed at dividing communities.” But isn’t Antifa supposed to be pro-gay AND pro-Muslim? It seems that when they finally realized the tension between each community, they got triggered by the idea of having to choose one to side with. Whoever then, was to be the enemy, would have to be labeled as Nazi’s and fascists. So now, according to Antifa, gay people are racist Neo Nazi’s who only march in Muslim areas to be offensive to their opposition.

  19. We need to start a website which would be available worldwide. I would call it: The Tenthead Beacon.

    All those muslims wearing tents on their heads need to be shot. On site. On sight.

    We need to make the world safe from tentheads. Woodrow Wilson said that we needed to “Make The World Safe For Democracy”. That is a bit much. Democracy can not work with some humanoids in this planet.

    I for one am sick of American wars all over the muddle east and Afghanistan. We learned our lessons in Vietnam. Some of us did.
