For a year, we have debated the foundation for criminal allegations against President Donald Trump and others in the continuing investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller has indicted individuals for crimes far removed from the Trump campaign, but has remained silent after the singing of the national anthem (I think it was the national anthem) by Fergie at the All-Star NBA game.
Mueller is allowed to investigate “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated” with the Trump campaign as well as “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.” The scope includes the right to investigate “any other matters within the scope of 28 C.F.R. § 600.4(a)” — including perjury, obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence, and intimidation of witnesses.
Surely this is a national security threat. Moreover, it “arose” as much from the investigation as Paul Manafort’s mortgage before the election. Whether Manafort overextended his assets pales in comparison to the over-extension of Fergie.
Even if this is not the destruction of all evidence of the national anthem, surely if constitutes some from of criminal intimidation or false statement.
It is time for Mueller to unite the country and prosecute Fergie.

I perceive the column to be written partially in jest, but it makes a great point: This Muller investigation is going so far off the rails in hunting for witches, that I don’t see how the United States public can take Muller seriously anymore.
Looking at the witches he’s uncovered, we have:
Paul Manafort, for tax fraud from 2004 to 2014;
Rick Gates, a Manafort associate, for (apparently) knowing Paul Manafort;
Their firm’s lawyer in England, who happened to be the son-in-law of a Russian;
George Pappadippydoo, whose last name I don’t really recall, for talking to an Australian diplomat while drunk;
13 Russian individuals and three Russian businesses, for the apparent crime of being Russian;
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, for lying to the FBI, even though the person he is alleged to have lied to never really believed that he lied.
This list may be incomplete by the end of today, but it raises a few questions in my mind.
1. Does Muller expect the Russians to be extradited to the United States, where they can be tried for their “crimes”?
2. Are the charges against any of these individuals an attempt at getting a plea to a lesser offense (like the Flynn charges), in the hopes that they will spill information that is damaging to the President?
3. Except for Flynn, do any of these people really have a connection to the Trump campaign?
4. Is the real goal of the witch hunt to show criminal mischief by the President during his campaign, or to present a collected file of potential evidence to be used by a future Democrat-controlled House in impeachment proceedings against the President?
I only have questions, because the answers I see to these questions don’t seem rational to me.
