Nashville Mayor Resigns And Pleads Guilty To Felony Theft

1520360894350Nashville mayor Megan Barry has resigned and pleaded guilty to felony theft as part of her affair with her police bodyguard.  We often debate whether a politician should give a smiling mugshot (and risk looking non-contrite) or a frowning mugshot (and risk looking guilty).  Barry went with the smiling option.  She will now face three years probation and a criminal fine.

Barry, 54, pleaded guilty to misappropriating more than $10,000 in city funds as part of her affair with Robert Forrest, who supervised the mayor’s security detail.  She agreed to  reimburse the city $11,000  and serve three years of probation.

Forrest also pleaded guilty to criminal theft in connection with the affair and agreed to pay $45,000 restitution to the city.  He will also serve three years probation.  Forrest’s overtime more than doubled with Barry and there were allegations of using official travel as part of the affair.  Forrest accompanied Barry on dozens of trips, including nine on which he accompanied her alone.

Ironically, Barry was once a former corporate ethics and compliance officer.

  1. I dunno ….. she looks pretty hot to me. Especially for 54 years old. How could the man resist?

    1. Jay S – I think it is charging for the overtime that was the problem. 😉

  2. Felon Mayor Barry (no, not Marion) is selective in her love of the police apparently, compelling the Nashville PD to pass out water bottles to BLM protestors who were blocking major intersections and chanting about cops being murderers. Another feckless guardian of the public trust brought down (sort of) by her own licentiousness and contempt for any sense of ethics. Good riddance to this radicalized Leftist with the smug smile.

  3. The business code of conduct

Most companies have policies in place to avoid fraternization & nepotism

Court decisions in some US states have allowed employers a limited legal right to enforce non-fraternization policies among employees, forbidding them to maintain certain kinds of relationships with one another. Since the 1990s, such corporate policies have been increasingly adopted in the United States in the pursuit of objectives such as protecting professionalism and workplace productivity, promoting gender equality and women’s rights, or avoiding and mitigating the impact of sexual harassment lawsuits.

  4. Of which political party is she a member?

Since it was not mentioned, I assume she is a Democrat.

    1. Is having an affair unique to one political party? I suspect it is more universal than that.

      1. DG – Nashville has changed a lot – now it’s more like Hipsterville. At least the Bluebird Cafe is still there.

        1. Amen to that! Some queer named Jason Owen raised hell to get Gov. Huckabee off a CMA Charity board:

What in the Name of Minnie Pearl is Wrong with Country Music?

One of country music’s most powerful executives, says gun-toting, Bible-clinging fans like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are no longer welcome.

The controversy started when the Country Music Association triggered a massive outbreak of microaggressions after they appointed Huckabee to the board of its charitable foundation.

Huckabee has been a longtime supporter of music education so his appointment to a charitable board that supports music programs for young people was a perfect fit.

However, a mob of social justice warriors, led by openly gay country music executive Jason Owen, protested – calling Huckabee’s appointment “grossly offensive” and “heartbreaking.”

“This man has made it clear that my family is not welcome in his America,” the owner of Sandbox Entertainment wrote in a letter to the CMA. “And the CMA has opened their arms to him, making him feel welcome and relevant.”

Owen, whose roster includes Faith Hill, Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves and Midland, threatened to pull out of the CMA Foundation over Huckabee’s appointment.

“Huckabee speaks of the sort of things that would suggest my family is morally beneath his and uses language that has a profoundly negative impact upon young people all across this country,” he wrote.

For the record, Huckabee is a born-again, Southern Baptist preacher who follows the teachings of the Holy Bible. And that includes the Bible’s directives on marriage.

Owen also objected to the former governor’s involvement with the National Rifle Association calling it “harmful and damaging.”

  5. You want to know why she is smiling? You want to know why she stopped to reapply her lipstick for this mugshot? It’s quite simple. Not complicated. No degree in psychology needed. It’s because she has no real shame with regard to what she has done–done to the people of her city, her husband, her family, the wife of her boyfriend or his family. No sense of guilt. No conscience. No sense of right or wrong. That’s why. She thinks that the photo is an acknowledgment of her fame. Her glory. She doesn’t perceive this photo for what it is–an attempt to capture and memorialize her image as a criminal. The same lack of shame, guilt and conscience allowed this married woman, along with her married boyfriend, to lie and cheat on their spouses, for years, not to mention, to steal tens of thousands of dollars along the way. Yeah. That, and, probably, because she had no fear. No real fear. Fear of doing time. Fear of having a felony conviction. She probably knew that she had so much dirt on others, in high positions, that her fate, of escaping catastrophic consequences, was secure.

      1. Uh. . . because Bams, and me, have read about this in other places, maybe??? You should try Google sometimes.

PS: And heck yes, Bams! She has no shame because for Democrats, there is nothing that matters except getting reelected. Which, being a Democrat, I look for her to be right back in politics somewhere else.

    1. Thats what I thought. The woman seems to have no shame and no sense of responsibility either to her husband, her son, or to the people who elected her. She just seems to be so full of herself. How people can come such a long way with no real maturity speaks for itself. What we value today is more fluff than substance. Really sad!

  6. If the punishment rendered–at least, in the case of public officials–is meant to deter further crime and act as an example of consequences to avoid, how is the requirement, of simply needing to pay back the amount pilfered, from the coffers, going to frighten anyone from committing the same bad acts? The answer: it won’t. It’s like a bank robber, getting caught, and being released, after he gives back the bags of money. That doesnt happen. . .there are consequences. Jail time. Felony convictions. These two skated, and I suspect that it is because they have so much dirt on others that they didn’t reveal in order to obtain these sweetheart deals. They are, in reality, far worse than bank robbers. These are public officials, entrusted with access to this money–not just some guys, in ski masks, breaking into the bank’s safe. The latter group will never escape felony convictions and stints in prison.

  7. Didn’t Patty Hearst marry her bodyguard? I hope it was all worth it. 😉
