In a story that is likely to resonate in the national debate over President Donald Trump’s push to get teacher’s armed in school, a teacher at Seaside High School in Sand City, Ca. injured a student when his gun discharged in a class.  Even more embarrassing is that the class was on gun safety.

Dennis Alexander, a reserve police officer for the Sand City Police Department and a Seaside councilman, has been named as the responsible teacher by the Monterey County Herald.

The class was on the administration of justice class. I am a bit surprised that gun safety is part of the class, though I think it is important to have such classes in areas with a large number of guns.

The student was hit by flying debris after the round hit the ceiling and was not reportedly seriously injured.

We have previously discussed such cases of negligence.  Obviously the student can sue for negligence.  Moreover, since this is an official part of the class, the school can be liable under principles of respondeat superior.  This is within the scope of his employment.

A high school teacher in Northern California accidentally fired a gun inside a classroom Tuesday afternoon and injured at least one student.

The Mercury News reported that Dennis Alexander, a reserve police officer for Sand City, had been providing safety instructions at Seaside High School when he accidentally fired a single shot from a semi-automatic handgun into the ceiling, police said.

A student was hit in the neck by debris after the bullet ricocheted off the ceiling, but was not seriously injured, police said.

The incident was brought under control and classes resumed, but an investigation is ongoing, the Monterey County Herald reported.

“We’re looking into any violation violation of city ordinance or the penal code and we’ll determine whether or not there are any applicable charges

  1. ROTFLMAO!!! Sooo, guess what happened on the South Side of Chicago when they let the black students out for 17 minutes to protest guns??? They went and looted and tore up the nearby WalMart! Cool video at the link!

Chicago police are trying to identify the dozens of students from Simeon Career Academy who they say took part in a vandalism spree while they were supposed to be protesting guns.

Shoppers and store employees were stunned by the destruction Wednesday morning at the Walmart in Chatham Market on the South Side.

Chicago police say it started when students at neighboring Simeon Career Academy were allowed to leave the school for 17 minutes to take part in the nationwide walkout to protest guns.

        1. Bob Creamer, Hillary’s right-hand man (already exposed for the piece of cr-p he is) couldn’t have done a better job at creating mayhem. Do you think such destruction by students is copied by Hillary and the DNC or do you think the students just followed Hillary and the DNC’s lead?

          1. I think the students followed their lead. The teachers tend to be pro-Democrats, so they are right on the spot to egg it on.

Today, the Democratic Party, the Media, and the Left is organized along the same lines as ISIS and Al Qaeda. Their followers sort of know what to do without explicit commands from the DNC.

  2. Paul, it appears from your comment that you believe our problem is legal gun ownership believing the US will tip over and sink from the weight of all those guns ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjG958lZ1KI )

The problem is homicide and injury, not numbers of guns which is what your article is essentially talking about. The question the article should have been looking at is who committed the homicide, was the gun legal or not, was the gun stolen, what was the gun being used for? The article exists not to solve a problem but to enhance one’s indignation. The article didn’t exist to educate for it didn’t say much of anything nor did it cite any data but I see it did incite your indignation.

    1. Yeah, and those bitter, scared white men are the first people yo are going to run to when and if The Zombie Apocalypse comes. You need to broaden your horizons, and look south, to Mexico. Where there were 29,000 murders last year. IIRC, the U.S. had around 9,000. That is what is coming to America.

My guess is, that you live in a pretty much white area, and things are safe for you. Try living in Memphis, or New Orleans. Detroit, Baltimore. Chicongo. I live in a 55% black city, and I have to look over my shoulder and be situationally aware of where I am, and when I am. Like, don’t be gassing up at 10:00 at night. Staying out of certain neighborhoods. Keep your hand on the gun in your purse when you are walking to your car. Stuff like that.

      1. Squeeky, when first married I lived in a slum in a very bad area. The first night we were there, there was a rape-murder in our building so I had to teach my wife how to use an elevator. Let it go to the basement and then to the top floor. Don’t enter the elevator until it is going up and don’t enter with strange people. There was a hospital a couple of blocks away and on Friday nights it was filled with gun-shot wounds and stabbings and when I say filled, it was overflowing.

It prompted me to work my a$$ off so I would never have to live like that again. When I could I moved and that is my question. Why don’t you move to a better location? Even in a nice area, I tell my daughter and daughter-in-law to valet their cars when alone or with the kids around Christmas time because the incidents rise during that time period.

        1. Right now my city is still livable. There are white areas, and there are black areas. Even in the black areas there are more good people than bad. I have an elderly in-law who has lived in the same place for nearly 60 years, and it went from white to black. He hasn’t been mugged yet. His tires were stolen off a truck a few years ago. But, each of his doors in the house has an “outside” type deadbolt, and he has guns stashed around. He gets along well with his neighbors, but I think the big thing he has going for him is that everybody thinks he is broke. But he isn’t and could move any time he liked. He has plenty of money, but nobody except the family knows it.

I live in a predominantly white area, and the biggest problem we have is cars getting broken into. An elderly woman in this general area was savagely murdered last year by the blacks who were doing her yard. I shop in nice stores and things, and most of the retail areas are safe. You pretty much just have be reasonably careful and it is fine. Don’t gas up at midnight, or go to WalMart then, unless you have company with you. Don’t drive close to areas you don’t want to break down in, and keep your gun close, and a charged up phone. A lot of the blacks here are retired military and as conservative as the whites. Except for the illegitimate birth rate which was 75% last i looked. Sooo, things here are not like Memphis or Baltimore. Yet.

So, I think that is going to trend to the bad as more black kids grow up raised by grandparents who did not grow up in two parent families. But maybe not. One can hope. One thing which keeps us white folks safe for the present is that the blacks know we are mostly well armed gun nuts, and will not go down without a fight. So, most of the robberies are retail stores and gas stations. Right now, our property values are staying up, and unless we get a huge influx of blacks, then they will stay up. The Blacks in our neighborhood are decent working people, so except for the car thefts, there is not much crime. Who, it could be white druggies doing it for all I know?

But, one day I will probably move to either another state, with less blacks, or another country, like Nova Scotia, maybe. Australia. Hungary. Finland. I am also seriously contemplating a move to a smaller town here, on one of the lakes. The problem in the rural areas though is the white meth heads and white trash types. My father and uncle say I should stay in a well populated area since I am single, and just keep a bug out bag in case of The Zombie Apocalypse. And guns.

          1. Squeeky – we all must be prepared for the ZA. Populated area is probably best for you with bars on the windows. I have heavy-duty security doors, front and back with an alarm system at all the windows and doors.

            1. My family has a bug out farm that we can all go to. I think the best area to be is in the suburbs, where you are close to shopping and hospitals and shoe stores, but close enough to the rural areas to get out fast if you need to. I am closer to downtown than I really want to be. But, I have possums and coons and birds and squirrels who are used to me feeding them.

I know you will think this is silly, but if I move to the lake front property, I am thinking about trapping the coons and possums and taking them with me. Build them some little houses in the wooded area. But, I think there are alligators in the lake. Sooo, there’s that. Plus, the woods are close to where Big Foot has been spotted.

Give me enough time though, and I will have that big furry rascal eating watermelons off the porch.

              1. Squeeky – you offer up your coons and you will have Big Foot inside the house. 😉

                1. I am not sure I want that. My father and uncle used to tell me that Big Foot was really the Frankenstein Monster. That the Frankenstein family moved to Northeast Texas back in the 1800s, and they turned the critter loose in the swamps. I didn’t believe that at all until I saw something about a Dr. Frankenstein out of Texarkana. Which is not far from Fouke.

    2. I couldn’t help but notice you seem to be defining having guns as “our gun problem”.
