No Breakfast For You: Red Hen Kicks Out Sarah Sanders And Her Family [UPDATED]

SarahHuckabeeSandersRecently we discussed the disturbing protest carried out at the MXDC restaurant against Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.   Members of Congress like Rep. Jackie Speier (D., Cal.) defended the protesters in disrupting the restaurant and forcing Nielsen to leave.  It was a sad statement on the utter loss of any sense of civility in our current political discourse.  Now, the owner of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia is at the center of this debate after throwing out White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders and her family from breakfast.  Many liberals celebrated the rude denial of service by the owners while conservatives have directed their anger at the restaurant.  Much of the criticism has been misdirected against the Red Hen in D.C. which has gone to pains to point out that they are not associated with the Lexington Red Hen.  Many critics on Yelp and other sites have unleashed on the restaurant.  The co-owner responsible for the decision was Stephanie Wilkinson. Wilkinson founded the restaurant with John Blackburn, who reportedly named the restaurant after his favorite childhood story.  Wilkinson is reportedly the founder and publisher of Brain, Child magazine. She lists herself as a co-owner of the restaurant.  UPDATE: Wilkinson says that she is proud of her actions and would do it again.

Friday night, Jaike Foley-Schultz, a waiter at The Red Hen, posted on Facebook that “I just served Sarah huckabee sanders for a total of 2 minutes before my owner kicked her out along with 7 of her other family members…”

Sanders confirmed that “Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

Sarah Sanders@PressSec

Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so

The defense of such disgraceful conduct by liberals is itself shocking.  Presumably Rep. Speier and others would be put out if they were denied service due to their political beliefs. Indeed, this double standard is the subject of an earlier column.
Wilkinson lists herself as a graduate of Dartmouth with a B.A. in English Literature and a Ph.D., European & American Religious History from the University of Virginia. She also lists herself as Executive Director of “Main Street Lexington.”

The website for Main Street Lexington states:

“Main Street Lexington exists to enhance the economic prosperity and cultural vitality of our community, re-establishing downtown Lexington as the vibrant economic and cultural nexus of our area while maintaining its unique character.”

It is a curious approach for either economic development or managing a restaurant to tell conservatives that they are not welcomed.  Lexington is an area with many conservatives as well as liberals.  With marginal profits at many business, particularly restaurants, this inhospitable message for conservatives cannot be a good business plan.

Wilkinson is shown at executive director on the site.

I have been highly critical of Trump and his Administration.  However, I find this action to be incredibly offensive and wrongheaded.  I would feel that same if Rep. Speier were chased from a restaurant by a conservative owner.  Once again, we seem to have lost any sense of restraint and civility in our politics.  Extremists on both sides claim license to say and do most anything vis-a-vis their opponents.  There is a sense of utter release in these actions — the right to act in the most monstrous or menacing ways because you believe that you are right and they are wrong.  You can denounce Trump for petty and childish attacks and then engage in the very same conduct in response.  And so it continues on and on and on.  It is the impunity of action that comes with being right.

I would not go to the Red Hen any more than I would go to a restaurant that refused to serve Rep. Speier.  It is simple matter of courtesy and civility.

Update: The original column correctly noted that “[p]revious stories identified the co-owners as John Blackburn and Stephanie Wilkinson” while noting that it was unclear who were the other co-owners of the restaurant at this time.  It has since come out that Blackburn gave up his ownership a three or four years ago.  The original story said that it appeared likely that it was Wilkinson who is referenced by Sanders and, when Wilkinson confirmed her role, the column was updated.  While one of the two founders with Wilkinson (and the person who named the restaurant), Blackburn however gave up his interest in the Red Hen in 2014 and has complained that he is receiving considerable backlash from the story. That was obviously not our intention when we shared the information on the prior ownership information. He now appears to be in the unenviable position as the many other Red Hen restaurants receiving blowback after Wilkinson’s actions.  As noted in the column, what was missing in the Wilkinson’s actions was civility and understanding. The same failure of judgment can be found in those who are attacking third parties like Blackburn.  While the story would have still referenced Blackburn as a founder with Wilkinson, there was no intention to add to Blackburn’s burden in reporting what information we could find on the restaurant’s ownership history.

  1. I believe that any business open to the public shouldn’t have the right to refuse service based on any philosophical stance be it political, religious, racial, or other personal expression of “moral conscious.” Apparently, the U.S. Supreme Court doesn’t agree. When it ruled recently in favor of a Colorado baker who had refused service to a same-sex couple, it unintentionally or not legitimized this kind of divisive behavior.

Although the court may not have wanted to make such a social statement, its decision certainly had that effect. In an era of worsening cultural polarization, Americans need more than ever to see some clear and consistent guidance from their government. Unfortunately, they are seeing the exact opposite. This breakdown of civil discourse will continue and worsen over time and eventually descend into a disastrous breakdown of civil society. As long as we remain on our current path, this dire outcome is inevitable.

If you blame liberals for this, then you must also blame conservatives. However, either blame would be misplaced. America’s problems start and end at the top of our society. It’s a profound failure of leadership.

    1. I believe that any business open to the public shouldn’t have the right to refuse service based on any philosophical stance be it political, religious, racial, or other personal expression of “moral conscious.”

It isn’t a public utility or a monopolistic common carrier. Freedom of contract should prevail.

      1. I was expressing my personal opinion, not commenting on the current legality of refusing service. To further elaborate my point:

        From: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/no-gays-allowed-hardware-store-emboldened-supreme-court-cake-ruling-hangs-discriminatory-sign-000218831.html

Following the Supreme Court’s 7-2 ruling in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, an East Tennessee business owner is celebrating by reposting a sign that reads, “No Gays Allowed.”

Jeff Amyx, a Baptist minister and owner of Amyx Hardware & Roofing Supplies, originally posted the sign in 2015 when SCOTUS ruled to permit same-sex marriage across the country.

Amyx claims that gay and lesbian couples are against his religion.

        1. And I’m expressing my opinion contra your opinion.

    2. You’re missing the critical distinction the Court made in the bakery case. The Court said the baker could not be compelled to create a CUSTOM wedding cake, which is an act of artistic expression, where such would violate his RELIGIOUS convictions. Had the bakery owner refused to sell an off-the-shelf wedding cake to a gay couple, it would have been a violation of their rights. In the Sanders case, they had ordered ordinary breakfast foods, the same kind that were served up to everyone. But the denial of service was based on politics, not religion, so there is no constitutional violation, just a bad business decision. There are undoubtably a lot of conservatives in VA who won’t be patronizing the Red Hen.

      1. As I stated beforehand, the consequential result of the court’s decision is more relevant to this discussion than its technical reasoning – which I consider to be so thin as to be transparent.

        1. The “consequential result” is that one person, who owns a hardware store in the dinky town of Washburn, East Tennessee, posted signs reading “no gays,” and “no liberals.” The “technical reasoning” of the Supreme Court decision is that a merchant can only refuse to perform a service for a gay couple under extremely narrow circumstances, that realistically will not impact their lives because they can easily have the service performed by someone else.

    3. That’a actually a great point. I suppose the burden then falls on us, and we are failing spectacularly.

  2. Is it fair to say that this establishment serves “public worker unions,” lobbyists, special interest groups, liberals, progressives, democrats, RINOs and various and sundry other forms of parasites that feed on the American taxpayer and that its proprietors are financially threatened by those who swear to “drain the swamp?”

Ironically, it is extremely profitable to perpetrate a liberal, communistic redistributionist dictatorship.

The plan of the Founders was that minimalist government would exist solely to facilitate freedom and free enterprise, that people would inexorably adapt to the outcomes of freedom and that purveyors of free enterprise would reap profits derived from merit.

  3. This would seem to me to be ripe for a civil rights lawsuit.
    Elements:
    Place of public accommodations
Discriminatory treatment based upon political creed.

    1. I think the law professor would have mentioned this if it were a possibility.

      1. I don’t know that he would have necessarily elaborated. He didn’t mention the commerce clause. That hardly means he thinks it doesn’t apply.

But you do have to go to court. And coming across a single nitwit isn’t a lot of motivation. I mean I won’t eat there. And I don’t excuse it. If it gets ridiculous, like it did for many people with darker skin, you might see some court action.

    2. Gary T,…
      – I don’t know if “political creed” has protected accomadation/ service status under existing civil rights legislation, or elsewhere in law.
If it does not ( I’m not sure), then maybe we can engage in “The Great Restaurant Wars” for “effective” expression of disagreement with those in politics.
There are some here and elsewhere who seem to view the stunt that the restaurant pulled on Sarah Sanders and family somehow was a laudable, noble defense of a perceived threat to our country.
So if Bernie Sanders is viewed in the same negative light by a restaurant’s management, have him go elsewhere.
Gotta protect our country😒😕 with restaurants’ grandstanding gestures.

      1. Though I don’t quite agree with the SC decision on public accommodations, refusal is based on whether or not the refusal to serve is a suspect class. That I don’t like the SC decision doesn’t mean that I approve of racism etc.. I wouldn’t eat in a restaurant that refused service to any group of law-abiding people. It makes no difference to me what or who they are. I expect food at a restaurant and I am not interested in going where politics, racism or religion enters the picture.

        1. Allan,…
          – I take it, then, that you do not consider the restaurant’s refusal to serve as an effective struggle against ” the greatest danger our Great Experiment has ever faced”.😒
( I actually thought that greatest danger we ever faced to our Great
          Experiment was the Civil War).

          1. A lot over nothing. The free marketplace is a wonderful thing. If that community had only one restaurant of its class that action would stimulate another restaurant to open welcoming conservatives and liberals alike. Then that restaurant might actually pay for its actions and go out of business.

As a business owner, I don’t care about these things. Everyone no matter what their race, religion or color is a customer and it is the customer I care about.

  4. The gay wedding cake is apple and oranges, something a 5th grader understands. Here it is, retards. If the gay couple came in to buy cookies, donuts, pie, cake off the rack, the bakery COULD NOT REFUSE service. This was a specialty cake for a wedding the baker’s religious beliefs do not abide. This Sanders incident was legally and morally wrong.

    1. I did not read where Professor Turley wrote that the actions of the restaurant were legally wrong. Morality is merely a matter of opinion.

      1. Conservatives are not a suspect class.

I wouldn’t eat in that restaurant even if I were a Liberal.

The baker was asked to do more than sell a cake and the baker said he would sell to the people that sued him even after the suit unless he had to do something against his religious beliefs.

        1. Are gays a suspect class? I don’t see how they could be considered as such, since they do not possess “immutable characteristics” such as race and gender that are easily observable.

    2. In a just regime, the baker could contract with whomever he cared to. As could the restaurateur. The question would not be one of legal obligation but propriety and practicality. Under all but a discrete set of circumstances, declaring a category of people persona non grata in a retail establishment (where your transactions with people are quite limited in time) is perverse and requires being quite rude. Refusing to cater or supply parody weddings is an ordinary exercise of discretion. (Trolling around looking for people to sue is a malicious act; don’t expect liberals to ever acknowledge that, of course).

      1. It is hilarious that you would call someone else’s actions rude — such hypocrisy from easily the rudest of all individuals who comment regularly on Professor Turley’s blog. Furthermore, you speculate about what you believe our laws should be, rather that what they actually are. I pity those who must interact with you on a regular basis. It must be painful indeed.

        1. It is hilarious that you would call someone else’s actions rude — such hypocrisy from easily the rudest of all individuals who comment regularly on Professor Turley’s blog

You’re not tracking the discussions very carefully, are you?

. Furthermore, you speculate about what you believe our laws should be, rather that what they actually are.

This is an offense only between your ears.

I pity those who must interact with you on a regular basis. It must be painful indeed.

          They’re doing all right.

          1. I am sure that you actually believe that, Narcissists always do. Meanwhile many eyes are rolling whenever you leave a room.

            1. You haven’t revealed yourself to be an adept student of social life. Try harder, pumpkin.

              1. I do not care what your opinion is of my social skills, especially since I find yours to be atrocious. You advocate for business’s right to discriminate agains protected classes of people, think civil rights laws are unjust, and insult those who disagree with you at every turn. I hope someone in real life gives you your just desserts, but a keyboard warrior like you is unlikely to walk the talk.

What credentials do you possess that allow you to live in a constant state of self aggrandizement? I passed one of the most difficult bars in the country, and know that changing the law is a process. We need to deal with the law in the state it exists today, and the restaurant owner did not break the law. The market will determine whether or not she made a poor business decision, but her behavior was not actionable.

Your opinion of whether or not it was rude is utterly irrelevant.

                    1. He’ll let you in on the secret when you’re out of middle school.

                    2. No, but when you said you passed the bar I was shocked. I thought a lawyer would have a better understanding of the law and the written word. I guess I was wrong but at the time I thought the speakeasy comment was a nicer way of saying it.

                1. I do not care what your opinion is of my social skills, especially since I find yours to be atrocious. You advocate for business’s right to discriminate agains protected classes of people, think civil rights laws are unjust, and insult those who disagree with you at every turn.

I’m caustic with people who say obnoxiously stupid things. They’re unusually common on these boards.

I hope someone in real life gives you your just desserts, but a keyboard warrior like you is unlikely to walk the talk.

I don’t deserve you’re babble, but I’m getting it anyway. Life is like that.

What credentials do you possess that allow you to live in a constant state of self aggrandizement?

I’m not in such a state and I wouldn’t need ‘credentials’ to be in such a state.

I passed one of the most difficult bars in the country, and know that changing the law is a process. We need to deal with the law in the state it exists today, and the restaurant owner did not break the law. The market will determine whether or not she made a poor business decision, but her behavior was not actionable.

You’re the third person on these boards to make an incredible claim to be a member of the bar.

Your opinion of whether or not it was rude is utterly irrelevant.

It was relevant enough to you’ve returned to that passing remark twice.

                  1. Go read the Carolene Products case footnote, and all of the SCOTUS civil rights jurisprudence. Then insert your irrelevant opinions in any of your gaping orifices. Nutchacha is tiresome.

                    1. The case law doesn’t interest me. Lousy public policy is lousy public policy. That some law clerk yammered on about petty matters quoting some other law clerk and a lousy appellate judge skimmed it and signed it may be interesting to the parties in the case. It is of no interest to me.

          2. Your words: “Both segregation laws and ‘civil rights’ laws have always been dubious for this reason.” Sounds like speculation about what our laws should be to me.

            1. Sounds like speculation about what our laws should be to me.

Yes, and that’s perfectly normal public discussion. You need to get out more.

              1. “normal public discussion”

Normal public discussion is beyond the reach of many of this blog’s Liberals.

                1. There are about four of them who aren’t emotional adolescents. One of the four is dotty and another one’s always playing crappy little forensic games (as well as using multiple handles). Not the best advertisement for the left

                  1. You are right and that is why one can’t have a good discussion on a subject. There is one Liberal who occasionally posts that is an attorney. He generally is logical but doesn’t post very often. In fact, maybe he stopped posting because the other Liberals poisoned the Liberal well.

I have noticed that most Liberal comments are unable to differentiate suspect class from others and also unable to differentiate between right and wrong and what the law says. Combine both together and we get to see the ignorant comments they post.

                2. It is not “normal public discussion” to threaten to “lock and load” on someone with differing political views, or even to insult others in what should be civil discourse. Nutchacha believes the restaurant owner to be incredibly rude for asking Sanders to leave, but regularly debases those who dare to disagree with him.

By the way, I am not a liberal. Like many others in the legal profession I find Trump to be an unqualified conman.

                  1. It is not “normal public discussion” to threaten to “lock and load” on someone with differing political views,

Well, you can make that complaint to someone who has done that.

or even to insult others in what should be civil discourse.

No, it’s so much better for public discussion to whimper and utter non sequiturs.

Nutchacha believes the restaurant owner to be incredibly rude for asking Sanders to leave, but regularly debases those who dare to disagree with him.

You picked an argument, now you’re butt-hurt that someone answered you back. Buck up, little girl.

By the way, I am not a liberal. Like many others in the legal profession I find Trump to be an unqualified conman.

                    LMAO

                    1. Why do you assume that I am female? Is it just your misogyny rearing its ugly head again?

                    2. Why do you assume that I am female? Is it just your misogyny rearing its ugly head again?

I pegged you as female, ergo I despise women. Do I have that right? You sure you want to go with that?

                  2. “It is not “normal public discussion” to threaten to “lock and load””

If I knew the context and who said those words I might be able to answer. I need a few more elements counselor. Don’t they stress providing all the elements in law school?

“I find Trump to be an unqualified conman.”

Who cares what you think when the results are so good?

    3. That you used the word “retard” shows that you are an ignorant jackass whose opinions are as worthless as his existence…

  5. Regarding the woman who threw the Sanders family out……..what Samantha Bee said.

  6. America is gone. It is a failed state. This and countless other stories out there, like Sec. Neilson being hounded out of the Mexican restaurant, the doxing of ICE agents, etc,, shows that what little is left of “society” is gone. The Anti-Fa protests in Berkeley is another.

This situation is the same as the Kansas-Nebraska troubles as a precursor to the Civil War. We are indeed heading into a hot civil war. We are facing the same existential crisis as in the Wiemar Republic and 1930s Spain. The Left is on a mission.

Thank God for President Trump. He will go down as the greatest modern American president. If nothing else, his stance on a Wall and immigration has caused the Left to drop its mask and expose all to see. For this and nothing else, President Trump is a God-send. His presidency might just as well be the cause of this coming civil war.

There is a choice now. Either we lose this country to open borders crowd and be destroyed, or we have to stand and fight for not only ourselves but our forefathers. Either we cower in submission or now we have to stand up and fight.

Many people really don’t know what is going on, the Intellectual current that erupted in the Renaissance that fueled the American and French Revolutions, the 1848 revolutions, the Russian Revolution, the collapse of the German monarchies by President Woodrow Wilson, the rise of the Wiemar and its troubles, the Spanish and Greek civil wars, the American 1960s Cultural revolution is now being replayed here and now; all the same forces of nihilism.

What is going on is the Left is within grasp of total victory. They were on the Event Horizon with the election of Hillary Clinton.

Trump shattered that! That can’t stand. So now, all Trump supporters are Nazis. MSNBC’s Deutsch called all Trump supporters Nazis. http://www.breitbart.com/video/2018/06/22/msnbcs-deutsch-trump-voters-are-standing-at-the-border-like-nazis/

Inflamatory language sure—but also demeaning in order to charge up for the killing. What do you think the shooting up the Republican baseball team was? The wounding of Scalise? For years, TV has countless NAZI shows to show the evil of that regime. What they don’t teach is the evilness of International Socialism. They are pre-programming huge amounts of low-IQ and mal-educated citizens into a certain mindset.

Trump has caused this all to come out. They are going bat-sh** crazy, Hysterical. The Violence will go worse. We will have to defend ourselves.

America has been a Failed state for the longest time. It is now coming to the forefront. The ill-fruits of the Enlightenment are being showcased. The Enlightenment sophistry has produced nothing but death and destruction from France to Russia and now America. America is going to reap the consequences.

  7. Lexington is an area with many conservatives as well as liberals.

Lexington itself is a Democratic enclave. Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County taken together gave Mr. Trump a thumping margin. She’s told 60% of the locals that they’re untouchables (and a larger share of those likely to take an interest in the sort of vernacular cooking she supposedly offers). Not too swift.

  8. You could say the right wing nutjobs started all this with their religious persecution discrimination nonsense.

Could be that the restaurant owner is a firm believer in the Ten Commandments and sticks by the one that states, Thou Shalt Not Lie. Since Sanders is a habitual liar for a president that approves of baby snatching, I don’t see why it’s a problem. After all, ‘christians’ have determined they don’t have to serve gays or others that they find don’t adhere to their puritan religious beliefs.

trumpster actions do have consequences. May they be embarrassed and shunned until they find decency and empathy.

    1. I think she’s found her ideal customer.

Could be that the restaurant owner is a firm believer in the Ten Commandments and sticks by the one that states, Thou Shalt Not Lie.

Then why are you still talking?

      1. Another instance of a variation on the Gish Gallop. But then I have come to expect nonsequiters from NutzIsIgnorant.

        1. Again, “Gish Gallop” does not mean what you fancy it does. Pity dementia is irreversable.

    2. Petulant hostility is not going to solve any problems. I suggest counseling and maybe a hobby.

      1. Mjat,…
-I take it that you are suggesting that ( counseling and hobby) for the restaurant manager who asked her to leave.

    3. No, it says “thou shalt not bear false witness”. Not the same thing at all, but definitely what you and others do on this blog All. The. Time.

  9. Protesters descend on Kirstjen Nielsen’s home: ‘No justice, no sleep’

“A group of protesters gathered outside Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s Virginia townhouse Friday morning, chanting “no justice, no sleep” and blaring audio of immigrant children crying.

About two dozen protesters with the progressive group CREDO Action chanted with megaphones, waved signs that read “child snatcher” and played the ProPublica audio clip of immigrant children being separated from their parents at the border, HuffPost reported.

Ms. Nielsen was forced to walk by protesters shouting “Shame!” when she left her house, according to video posted on social media. One man shouted, “You belong in the Hague!” and, “You’re a modern-day Nazi!” as Ms. Nielsen entered her vehicle and left.

Heidi Hess, the co-director of CREDO Action, said it’s important to hold members of the Trump administration accountable “everywhere.”

“There’s a child snatcher living in Alexandria, Virginia,” Ms. Hess said in a statement. “Rightfully so, there’s a huge amount of attention focused on the border and the detention centers but the people who are making the decisions are here in DC, so it’s important to shine a spotlight on them as well.”

The protest took place just three days after Ms. Nielsen was chased out of a Mexican restaurant near the White House by protesters with the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America.”

    1. Again, both harassment and disorderly conduct are crimes in most jurisdictions.

      1. They don’t care. That is why I keep on saying that America is a Failed State. What we have is a TWO-tier justice system now!!! That is another sign of a failed State. A two-tier justice system is the sign of Tyranny!

Look the Liberals tore down a Confederate Statue. The police arrested them–the DA refused to bring charges!!!!

        Really?

I was at my local city council meeting and suddenly at the end of the meeting an Hispanic councilwoman launches into a tirade of white priviledge, white oppression, Diversity and calling for the removal of an old stain-glass window showing a surveyor fighting with an Indian that is the basis of the moniker of Battle Creek, Michigan. I shouted out loud in protest a couple of times. I was removed. So what. But later I was arrested and fined. The Bill came to $275 and I’m dirt poor. Dirt, Dirt poor.

We have a two-tier justice system in America. Harrassment and disorderly conduct are NOT crimes. Liberals can commit those with impunity!

      1. You’re inadvertantly in the business of exposing moral stupidity in Pullman.

      2. DBB – so where were all those activists when HRC did not support Zelaya in Honduras resulting in state sanctioned violence and a flood of people running away in hopes of a safe and better life? Where were they in NOT calling out Obama and HRC on the now failed state of Libya. Oh, that’s right – it’s not about wimmen ‘n chilluns – it’s all about party. DAMN Hypocrites.

        1. Why should anyone have supported Zelaya? He’d repeatedly defied lawful court orders. The military put him on a plane out of the country rather than putting him under arrest as directed by the courts. His term of office was due to end within seven months anyway, much to his consternation.

    2. Where were the Alexandria police? If I were a neighbor, I would be sorely p!ssed that I had to listen to this nonsense.

      1. Dunno. Evidently this is an organization of professional noisemakers

I cannot locate an IRS 990, so I’m assuming their clain to have a seven digit membership is humbug.

  10. This is becoming ridiculous! Those stupid Liberals pretending to Resist by going after Trump staffers? I guess it’s easier than actually primarying the Dims who just voted to increase the war budget, increased surveillance, etc etc. These are delusional charlatans.

  11. Our Socialist Liberal Left in action. This action is deplorable and should have consequences. Seemingly this is “Business as usual” by the Socialist Left Democratic Elite. I wish I lived in Virginia just so I could boycott this place. This has got to stop!1 CIVILITY PLEASE!!

  12. If you can refuse to bake a cake for someone who doesn’t share your beliefs, then why not dinner too?

    1. What religious convictions did the owner have? The Baker didn’t refuse to service anyone but refused to supply one of his artistic creations. It’s not the same but that would take logical thinking.

  13. What’s grotesquely amusing (and manifest on our Facebook feed) is the incapacity of most liberals to acknowledge that any sphere of life can be apart from factional political struggles. The owner is also a witless fanatic. She just turned away seven customers because one of them is a public figure (and not a consequential policy maker, just a press agent) and has now trashed her revenue stream by insulting most of her potential customers. If she has business partners of a practical bent, they’re likely to be less than pleased with her.

  14. The MSM stokes the flame of hatred and it’s only going to get worse.

  15. You can’t kick people out because of the color of their skin, but you can for other reasons.
I don’t get that, but I’m not a lawyer either.

    1. It’s their restaurant and if they wish to set their custom a particular way, that’s their prerogative. Both segregation laws and ‘civil rights’ laws have always been dubious for this reason. As matters have evolved, though, they’ve decayed in practice to one component of an effort by the social sectors which make up the left to engage in aggression against others. They get to set their custom and no one else does. Because reasons.

    2. Don Dachner, the charge of hypocrisy goes over their heads. They D-O-N-T C-A-R-E. They don’t care about your “opinion”. It is quite obvious to me that many people have NO understanding of what they are looking at. They have no cultural awareness because they have no knowledge of history, of Christianity, of the Enlightenment. It is plain to me,

They can discriminate against others. Look they are defining some speech as Hate so they can override the Free Speech dogma. Have you ever heard about Dynamic Silence? The very same people who fight for “Free Speech” and clamor for it voraciously, secretly deny it to their enemies.

It’s all one con game. To think that there is a honest playing field is ludicrous. You do live in the Clouds.

  16. Now that civility and manners matter not, I look forward to this becoming a common occurrence.
I also look forward to the first a**kicking beatdown that comes from it.

Is this truly the beginning of the breakdown of civil society? One can’t even have a meal without being accosted by politics?

Perhaps the outgrowth of the ‘me’ generation – no respect for any ‘other’.

    1. Perhaps the outgrowth of the ‘me’ generation – no respect for any ‘other’.

The ‘Me generation’ referred to people who were a cultural vanguard ca. 1975. Such people are out to grass now. Unless there have been multiple Stephanie Wilkinsons in Lexington, the proprietor was born in 1962 / 63. Some of may have hoped that when the Boomers shuffled off, our own contemporaries would improve the public atmosphere in venues progtrash have controlled. Turns out they’re worse.

  17. Sarah Sanders tweeted that she was refused service at The Red Hen “last night”. Pretty sure that would mean dinner, not breakfast.

  18. Another sad day when those who cry most loudly about fairness and the “rights” of people not being recognized that they should again deny a person a meal at a public establishment because of their political beliefs. Sad.
