No White Russians To Be Served At Trump Hotel? D.C. Advisory Group Petitions To Pull Trump Liquor License

160px-Official_Portrait_of_President_Donald_Trump_(cropped)There is a difference between resistance and ridiculousness.  That line was crossed, again, by Trump critics in Washington after a D.C. Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 4C) announced a petition to pull the Trump International Hotel’s liquor license. The grounds?  D.C. law only allows individuals of “good character” qualify for a liquor license.  The petition pushed by Zach Teutsch, ANC Commissioner 4C is an example of how leaders are misrepresenting frivolous, meaningless efforts as valid legal arguments. 

Fox 5 has reported on petition by the D.C. Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 4C) based on the “good character” condition for a liquor license. That provisions states:

§ 25–301. General qualifications for all applicants.

(a) Before issuing, transferring to a new owner, or renewing a license, the Board shall determine that the applicant meets all of the following criteria:

(1) The applicant is of good character and generally fit for the responsibilities of licensure.

(2) The applicant is at least 21 years of age.

(3) The applicant has not been convicted of any felony in the 10 years before filing the application.

(4) The applicant has not been convicted of any misdemeanor bearing on fitness for licensure in the 5 years before filing the application.

The focus of the law is on criminal violations but perceived questions of veracity or honesty.  Moreover, the liquor license is technically not in the name of Donald Trump. Moreover, ANC 4C does not even cover this geographic area.  That is covered by ANC 2C, which has not called for such a review.

Nevertheless, the petition states that “Donald Trump, the true and actual owner of the Trump International Hotel, is not a person of good character.” The petition references a “long history of telling lies” and a “failure to abide by the law and to repudiate associations with known criminals.”  That is it.  Incredibly, two former judges signed this utter nonsense.  It may be cathartic and popular but it is entirely meritless.

It is difficult to protect a president in disregarding laws or precedent when you are filing frivolous filings that misuse laws like those governing liquor licenses.

  5. Washington D.C. has almost 700,000 people. That’s more than either of our 2 smallest states, Wyoming and Vermont. Washington is also the center of America’s 5th largest metro region. It is situated on what is known as The Eastern Seaboard; a densely populated strip of coast from Baltimore to Boston.

    Therefore the residents of Washington share the sentiments of urban, east liberals. And they would prefer their city reflects those sentiments in terms of civic policies.

    But Republican congressmen, with no family ties to D.C., feel politically compelled to impose their politics on D.C. only because they can! That’s what’s known as the ‘politics of spite’.

    These are the same Republicans who want ‘limit big government’. What a sham! They are perfectly willing to use federal power just to bully the liberal residents of Washington D.C.

      1. Peter, you know, Obama destroyed my affordable health insurance, that every doctor accepted, and that covered everything. It was a regular Blue Cross PPO. He took that from me and replaced it with an Obamacare policy, with a deductible that increased from the $500 I used to pay for my original policy, up to $12,000 now. The premiums doubled last time I checked. No reputable doctor I ever went to, literally, would take it, so I had to pay out of pocket to actually get health care. That did not contribute to my max caps. Neither did any off formulary medication, because that benefit was done away with.

        People with cancer were denied care at major cancer hospitals, most of which do not accept Obamacare individual policy.

        I get that you really, really, really, really dislike Trump. But until you had your health care torn from you, were forced to buy something that cost the same as buying a used car every year with the premium of a second mortgage, than you have not been personally injured to the extent that I have.

        And yet, I did not agitate for Obama to be removed by any means possible. I did not Tweet to American generals to assassinate the President. I did not beat up anyone I saw wearing an Obama T-shirt or his stupid Hope and Change hats.

        I did none of those things because Obama was our lawfully elected President. He represented our nation over seas, so I wanted him to do a good job, and grieved when he failed repeatedly.

        I suggest that you do the same. Every party gets a fair shot…unless you are a Democrat running against Hillary Clinton.

When Obamacare happened, I had spent 23 years building a business that was dead within three years. Today, I’m 63 and looking for a job. And paying 1200/mo for insurance, but damned sure not taking a subsidy. And I’m not going to.

          This horrible program was highly destructive for most of us and excuse me if you don’t want to pay for your own health care. I’ve paid insurance premiums when I was three house payments behind because I have priorities. Stop whining.

        3. Hi Karen. I had my healthcare taken from me because a corrupt Republican legislature in Louisiana passed a law allowing premiums to be raised continually through tour a year. Policyholders without active claims were offered new group memberships at lower premiums. As a result, only the severely ill remained in the original group ad that group was cancelled. I was 28 and had just finished chemotherapy for testicular cancer. I was left with $100,000 in medical bills.

          Now the Republicans want to do away with coverage for pre-existing conditionsas I am under treatment for a usually incurable aggressive cancer.

          Even though I pay high taxes, I am glad I live in California, where the Democratic majority will protect my interests.

The only way that hotel is making money is from lobbyists and the republican party hosting their parties. Trump has had his share of problems from heath inspectors from almost all of his properties.       I would like to add that this savage behavior on the Left, which has gone mainstream, also pushes people to support Trump.

      When Trump won the primary, I was not happy. He was not the candidate that I wanted. However, I witnessed the Left become deranged in their attacks on him. I found myself repeatedly defending him. I couldn’t reason with friends and family whom I believed to be normal, intelligent people. I recall the palpable fear of a Jewish lady I knew well, who thought that, literal Death Vans were going to come for the Jews. I tried to reason with her, soothing her that Trump was the first sitting President with a Jewish daughter and son-in-law, he attended many Jewish events, and was on great terms with Netanyahu. She wouldn’t respond to anything I said. Just kept repeating that he was an anti-Semite and his campaign was a dog whistle. It was irrational. Her friends all called me an anti-Semite because I tried to explain I did not think Trump was an anti-Semite. She didn’t correct them. She called my mother a Nazi because she supported Trump. Her friends piled on and brutalized my mother online, calling her the most hateful names. Then this person cut all of us off. If any of us voted for Trump she wanted nothing to do with us, in the most reprehensible effort at voter intimidation. My mother is one of the sweetest people on Earth, and she had major health issues.

      My mother told me that she is afraid to ever voice her opinion online about politics again. She is afraid she will be attacked and lose friends or family, and called horrible names. Instead of my mother’s right to make up her own mind being celebrated as the victory of the suffragettes, people who knew and supposedly loved her tried to cow and control her.

      When I tried to reason with those involved and get them to apologize, I was informed that my precious child was a born racist because he is white and male, and he should not have the same opportunities as other race children.

      That was it for me. I went out and got a MAGA hat. I am not an elderly, ill gentle woman. I realized that the fight against the domination of the Left has become existential. This behavior cannot stand. Je suis prest.

If those who I associate with decide their political agenda is so sacred that they demand I conform or face criticism I no longer speak to them. I don’t do business with social justice warrior enterprises and I do everything legally possible to minimize paying taxes, which translates into me never owning a new car and buying most of my clothing from the Goodwill, The less I spend, the less tax I pay.

A savvy, mature candidate would have never bothered with Machado; especially during a during a convention week.

        Then of course there was the Access Hollywood tape which portrayed Trump in the worst possible light. Coincidently the Wikileaks were released immediately afterwards. It was almost like Putin said, “Now’s the time to get those out”

                      Wyoming and Vermont have modest populations, but those populations encompass an array of discrete communities with a full complement of social strata: small cities, small towns, and countryside. The problems which Wyoming and Vermont face (such as they are) is that certain sophisticated services don’t nestle naturally in cities of 80,000 and have to be primed by state government or provided under inter-state compacts. Neither Wyoming nor Vermont have had a history of gross mismanagement of their affairs.

Affluent jurisdiction or no, it had by 1994 a homicide rate not seen in this world anywhere outside of a few Central American countries, it had appalling public schools, and it had a bloated civil service shot through with racial patronage networks whose performance was such that The Washington Monthly had a regular feature titled “The Worst City Government”. Presiding over this mess was Marion Barry, a man with a fondness for cocaine and strip joints. He was elected mayor 4x. The municipal government’s fiscal mismanagement was so severe Congress had to place it under the supervision of a financial control board.

                      Congress has been officious with the District government because they had to be.

      District politicians have frequently pushed back on appropriations riders attached to D.C. spending bills. While Washington has a city government that creates local laws, its finances are controlled by the federal government.

      “Congress cannot interfere in locally approved laws in D.C.,” Bowser said.

      Legalizing the commercial sale of marijuana was a major focus for Wednesday’s speakers. D.C. legalized recreational marijuana for people over 21 by referendum in 2014 but selling pot for recreational use is prohibited. The district wants to follow in the footsteps of states such as Colorado, which has seen major financial success after the state legalized selling recreational marijuana.

        The politicians, joined by leaders of D.C. organizations, also criticized legislation by Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio that aims to repeal D.C.’s gun control laws. D.C. students and residents came out in support of stronger gun regulation in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, said Aaron King, a student from Wilson High School. Getting rid of gun regulations would run counter to what Washington locals want, he said.

        “We need Congress to strengthen our gun laws, not attempt to weaken them,” King said.

        Bowser and other officials also made a push for D.C. statehood at Wednesday’s news conference. High taxes without any federal voting representation was an “affront to democracy,” Norton said.

        “We are overqualified to be the 51st state,” the longtime delegate said.

        The easiest way to end the yearly fights over budget riders would be for D.C. to fully control its own budget and local laws, Bo Shuff of statehood advocacy group DC Vote said.

        “We already know what the solution is to end this cycle,” Shuff said. “It’s statehood.”
