West Wing-Nut: Kanye’s Visit To Oval Office Leads To Unhinged and Demeaning Rave

350px-US-WhiteHouse-Logo.svgIn one of the most bizarre (and frankly demeaning) moments for the White House, President Donald Trump invited Kanye West into the Oval Office for what became an unhinged and profane rave sessions in front of the world’s press.  As with the high-level visits with a Kardashian to talk policy, these sessions have a freak show quality more fitting a reality show than the Oval Office.  For anyone who reveres that office, West raving about how he is a “crazy motherf***er” is an utter disgrace. Not to be outdone, CNN proceeded to demean news coverage by racing to the bottom on the story with April Ryan.

West raved about everything from his own diagnosis of being bipolar (which he says was just a lack of sleep) to the Unabomber while wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.  (Just for the record, wearing a hat in the Oval Office is not considered respectful.  Ronald Reagan would not even allow men to enter not wearing ties or jackets.) I know that I will be called too sensitive but I also have a serious problem with West putting his cellphone on the famous Resolute desk used by Trump. The desk has been used by seven presidents and was a gift in 1880 from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford Hayes.

Trump just let the rant continue as if he was riding the metro when some raving lunatic jumped into the car. One of the most painful moments was Kanye holding forth on the 13th Amendment.  The 1865 amendment abolishing slavery is apparently a “trap door called the 13th Amendment,” because it was written when Kanye says it was illegal for blacks to read.

Kanye sounds like a marginally functional celebrity who surrounds himself with people who constantly tell him that such idiotic thoughts are brilliant.

That went on for ten minutes.  The Florida panhandle has been wiped clean, but the President gave ten minutes to this one-man circus show.

Not to be outdone in the race to the bottom, CNN followed its coverage by cutting to CNN political analyst April Ryan who immediately raised the man who made an infamous sex tape with Kanye West’s wife, Kim Kardashian.  Ryan told Wolf Blitzer that she had asked the opinion of R&B singer Ray J who has no connection to any of this other than a sex tape with West’s wife.  Is this seriously what CNN considers responsible journalism?

CNN anchor Don Lemon also called on CNN contributors Tara Setmeyer and Bakari Sellers and engaged them into a conversation where West was repeatedly referred to as that “negro.”  Setmeyer insisted “He’s an attention whore, like the president. He’s all of a sudden now the model spokesperson. He’s the token negro of the Trump administration.” She also dismissed him as someone with a history of mental illness. Sellers then declared “Kanye West is what happens when negroes don’t read.”  Last night, Lemon returned to the subject by calling West’s appearance in the Oval Office a “minstrel show.”

Given such demeaning, low grade coverage, CNN is the last place to call out Trump for demeaning the Oval Office.  I find both displays truly disturbing and depressing.

    3. At home we dont watch TV and we never ever visit CNN on the internet. So it is curious to learn of CNN antics on this legal blog when Americans like us at home, and apparently millions of others, dont care what CNN shows.

      But JT does. That is a real eye opener.

Diane, I don’t know how your comment is related to mine but not knowing too much on Khashoggi at this time I wonder if he is a true journalist (reporting factual news) and whether or not he was an Islamist That doesn’t change the circumstances surrounding him but it is something I want to know more about. The ramifications of what seems to have happened are quite important.

I concur with Gary Trieste, “Trump is like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack, he is as rich and well-positioned as the privileged entrenced, but he doesn’t have the stuck up, snooty presumptions that all the ones in power have had. He shakes it up, and lets the chips fall where they may.” and in my opinion this is why “millions of people who have been left behind and politically exploited as pawns of social justice movements.” did, and will again vote for him. If things keep chugging away as they are we will see Trump reelected in 2020.

But, I don’t think Kanye is so nutty when one analyzes his ramble and flight of ideas. He seems to have some sophisticated notions that come through sounding a lot better than most of the ideas on this blog that we hear from the left.

    These are things that little old ladies in small towns twitter about. Like right out of the Music Man.
    The times they are a changin — now the Conservatiods are the mavericks, the ones willing to do things in ways that haven’t been done before, its why Trump was elected.
    So what that this president doesn’t have such an ossified way about how he does things.
    Trump is like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack, he is as rich and well-positioned as the privileged entrenced, but he doesn’t have the stuck up, snooty presumptions that all the ones in power have had. He shakes it up, and lets the chips fall where they may.
    And, finally, it is not being done as haphazardly as your tunnelvisioned POV would make it out to be.
    Kanye has immense influence upon the black community, and will affect the attitudes and opinions of millions of people who have been left behind and politically exploited as pawns of social justice movements.
    Trump made the Oval office accessible to an icon, a maverick in his own right, and gave a sense of presence to that community, even more so than Obama, who was just as elitist as any white president.
    This gave a simpatico and the feeling that the president is a normal guy happy to give a voice to those who have thought they were as shut out of it as a class.
    Trump’s ratings will go up in places that the progressive left have accused him of being racist towards, and a in few fell swoops grab the allegiance of communities the progressives have been trying to woo for years.
    It is social genius.

The far simpler solution, Gary, is that Trump invited Kanye West to the Oval Office for the express purpose of trolling Taylor Swift, who has given Democrats a fighting chance in Tennessee, at least, and possibly a few other unexpected States–say, Texas, for instance, or Missouri, Nevada, Florida, Indiana, Montana, Arizona and North Dakota.

      P. S. Are you sure . . . Are you really sure about this sentence, “Trump . . . gave a sense of presence to that community [African Americans], even more so than Obama, who was just as elitist as any white president”??? I could be wrong, but I think your membership in “that community” may be in jeopardy on account of kicking Obama out of the same “community.” Remember: You’re under no obligation to give yourself away like dat.

    In the instant case the species in question being the male Genius Stabilis Americanus. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service indicates that they can be found in all 50 states and are sadly no where near being placed on the endangered species list (which is fake news anyway).

  16. I’m thinking that in inviting this guy to the oval office – knowing that he is a nut-case – Trump was playing to his own racist base. Trump was in effect saying, “This crazy guy is what black people are like.” Trump may frequently act like he is out of control, but he is shrewd in some ways.

    The optics today, in my opinion, will do more to help young blacks in South Chicago and other depressing black areas want to connect with Pres Trump and maybe give him a chance.
    Your reaction today is exactly what I felt when we were told that Obama’s favorite musician was JayZ, who wrote the most vile sexist and anti-police lyrics. I was appalled. Obama praised, justified and elevated Jay’z’s anti-woman anti-police music.
    And there was probably about a 100 times more decorum in the Oval Office today, than when Pres. Jackson’s friends were swinging from the chandeliers. 🙂
    I was impressed that yesterday, Pres Trump was in the Oval Office watching Hurricane Michael, and having the director of Fema and the Homeland Security Secy there with him, explaing on live tv what was transpiring, etc…and about the preparedness of his administration.
    They were all talking directly to the public, as it was happening. Very impressive!

    2. Good points Cindy. Obama’s JayZ promoted violence, sexism and anti police behavior. That is acceptable to the left. Though Kayne West rambled and is eccentric his ideas were to promote unity and peace. Of course the left wing media couldn’t have a black person say what he said so they demeaned him terribly and will probably try to destroy his career. I’ll take Kanye’s unity message over the left’s message of violence.

  18. I don’t know what your expected President Trump to do. I did not see a suggestion in your article. Should he have tried to quiet him, that would have been seen as him trying to stifle a black man. Call the Secret Service that would have been worse.

    This is the same oval office and desk where Bill Clinton had oral sex with Monica.

    1. Uh huh. Five of the last eight former Presidents hoovered up large sums in fees paid for routine public appearances. At least two of the three remainder received homoraria episodically. Seven of the last eight former Presidents had security details following them around from the moment they left office; the only one who abstained (after he’d been out of office for 12 years) was Richard Nixon. Harry Truman, whom Puerto Rican nationalists nearly assassinated in 1950, wasn’t offered a detail until 1965. The last President of the more dignified era was…Lyndon Johnson. (Richard Nixon’s curt – and accurate – description of his predecessor was ‘animal’). As for John Kennedy, a concise description was offered by Adela Rogers St. John: “He screwed anything that didn’t have four legs, and I’m not even sure he didn’t do that”).
