West Wing-Nut: Kanye’s Visit To Oval Office Leads To Unhinged and Demeaning Rave

350px-US-WhiteHouse-Logo.svgIn one of the most bizarre (and frankly demeaning) moments for the White House, President Donald Trump invited Kanye West into the Oval Office for what became an unhinged and profane rave sessions in front of the world’s press.  As with the high-level visits with a Kardashian to talk policy, these sessions have a freak show quality more fitting a reality show than the Oval Office.  For anyone who reveres that office, West raving about how he is a “crazy motherf***er” is an utter disgrace. Not to be outdone, CNN proceeded to demean news coverage by racing to the bottom on the story with April Ryan.

West raved about everything from his own diagnosis of being bipolar (which he says was just a lack of sleep) to the Unabomber while wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.  (Just for the record, wearing a hat in the Oval Office is not considered respectful.  Ronald Reagan would not even allow men to enter not wearing ties or jackets.) I know that I will be called too sensitive but I also have a serious problem with West putting his cellphone on the famous Resolute desk used by Trump. The desk has been used by seven presidents and was a gift in 1880 from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford Hayes.

Trump just let the rant continue as if he was riding the metro when some raving lunatic jumped into the car. One of the most painful moments was Kanye holding forth on the 13th Amendment.  The 1865 amendment abolishing slavery is apparently a “trap door called the 13th Amendment,” because it was written when Kanye says it was illegal for blacks to read.

Kanye sounds like a marginally functional celebrity who surrounds himself with people who constantly tell him that such idiotic thoughts are brilliant.

That went on for ten minutes.  The Florida panhandle has been wiped clean, but the President gave ten minutes to this one-man circus show.

Not to be outdone in the race to the bottom, CNN followed its coverage by cutting to CNN political analyst April Ryan who immediately raised the man who made an infamous sex tape with Kanye West’s wife, Kim Kardashian.  Ryan told Wolf Blitzer that she had asked the opinion of R&B singer Ray J who has no connection to any of this other than a sex tape with West’s wife.  Is this seriously what CNN considers responsible journalism?

CNN anchor Don Lemon also called on CNN contributors Tara Setmeyer and Bakari Sellers and engaged them into a conversation where West was repeatedly referred to as that “negro.”  Setmeyer insisted “He’s an attention whore, like the president. He’s all of a sudden now the model spokesperson. He’s the token negro of the Trump administration.” She also dismissed him as someone with a history of mental illness. Sellers then declared “Kanye West is what happens when negroes don’t read.”  Last night, Lemon returned to the subject by calling West’s appearance in the Oval Office a “minstrel show.”

Given such demeaning, low grade coverage, CNN is the last place to call out Trump for demeaning the Oval Office.  I find both displays truly disturbing and depressing.

      1. Excerpted from the article linked above (Check the attribution of the quotation):

“It’s an interesting form of dictatorship that is being created in Saudi Arabia,” Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent Saudi columnist and former editor and adviser to Saudi diplomats who is now in exile, told me. “M.B.S. is now becoming the supreme leader.” Besides North Korea, the only other country where that title is used is Iran, Saudi Arabia’s archrival.*

      1. Excerpted from the article linked above:

According to the Washington Post, U.S. intelligence “intercepted communications of Saudi officials discussing a plan to capture” Khashoggi, a prominent critic of Saudi Arabia’s regime. The purpose of the capture was not obvious in the overheard conversations, the Post reports:

The Saudis wanted to lure Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia and lay hands on him there, this person said. It was not clear whether the Saudis intended to arrest and interrogate Khashoggi or to kill him, or if the United States warned Khashoggi that he was a target, this person said.

        1. Excerpted from the article linked above:

Kushner took an unannounced trip to Riyadh in late October, and according to David Ignatius, he and Prince Mohammed “are said to have stayed up until nearly 4 a.m. several nights, swapping stories and planning strategy.

Later the White House said the purpose of the trip was to discuss a Middle East peace plan, but declined to say who Kushner met with. Afterward, MBS reportedly bragged about Kushner tipping him off about disloyal Saudis. (Mirijanian denied this, saying: “Some questions by the media are so obviously false and ridiculous that they merit no response. This is one.”)

    1. At home we dont watch TV and we never ever visit CNN on the internet. So it is curious to learn of CNN antics on this legal blog when Americans like us at home, and apparently millions of others, dont care what CNN shows.

But JT does. That is a real eye opener.

    2. Diane is an ardent supporter and watcher of CNN. Between their spin and Diane’s twist no news comes out intact.

      1. Excerpted from the article linked above:

In December 2016, The Independent, citing a report from Middle East Eye, said Khashoggi had been banned by Saudi Arabian authorities from publishing or appearing on television “for criticising US President-elect Donald Trump”.

Kashoggi began writing for the Washington Post in September 2017, continuing thereafter. In the Post, he criticized the Saudi-led blockade against Qatar, Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic dispute with Canada and the Kingdom’s crackdown on dissent and media.

        1. Diane, I don’t know how your comment is related to mine but not knowing too much on Khashoggi at this time I wonder if he is a true journalist (reporting factual news) and whether or not he was an Islamist That doesn’t change the circumstances surrounding him but it is something I want to know more about. The ramifications of what seems to have happened are quite important.

        1. Excerpted from the article linked above:

Khashoggi was the only non-royal Saudi who had the beef on the royals’ intimate dealing with al Qaeda in the lead-up to the 9/11 attacks. That would have been crucial if he had escalated his campaign to undermine the crown prince.

        1. Excerpted from the article linked above in reference to Muhammad bin Salman:

“It is a crazy analysis about the threat of a pan-Islamic empire,” says Jamal Khashoggi, a former editor of al-Watan, a Saudi-owned newspaper, who now works as a columnist in exile in America. “He treats IS and the Brotherhood as the same thing—the only difference being that IS tried to create the caliphate immediately by violence while the Brotherhood wants to create the caliphate slowly, through democracy.”

          1. “the only difference being that IS tried to create the caliphate immediately by violence while the Brotherhood wants to create the caliphate slowly, through democracy.”

The MB seeks the destruction of the west. See the MB papers released at the Holy Land Trial.

        2. Also excerpted from the article linked above:

Although the Brotherhood never seemed very strong in the Gulf, its election victory in Egypt in 2012 unnerved Gulf rulers. Saudi Arabia and the UAE enthusiastically supported the coup that overthrew President Muhammad Morsi of the Brotherhood, not least because he was moving closer to Iran. For Mr Khashoggi, the campaign against the Brothers is an attempt to extinguish the last embers of the Arab spring: “Democracy and political Islam go together.”

          1. “Democracy and political Islam go together.”

If one defines political Islam as Sharia Law the two don’t go together.

  1. Yeah, appearances on Ellen and The View by the TelePrompTer of the United States were just so much more dignified. Are there any academics left in this country who don’t routinely offer fraudulent arguments?

    1. Excerpted from the article on papal infallibility at Catholic Answers:

Given these common misapprehensions regarding the basic tenets of papal infallibility, it is necessary to explain exactly what infallibility is not. Infallibility is not the absence of sin. Nor is it a charism that belongs only to the pope. Indeed, infallibility also belongs to the body of bishops as a whole, when, in doctrinal unity with the pope, they solemnly teach a doctrine as true. We have this from Jesus himself, who promised the apostles and their successors the bishops, the magisterium of the Church: “He who hears you hears me” (Luke 10:16), and “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” (Matt. 18:18).

      1. As for the “holy” bishops I like this verse better:

But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
        Matt 18:6 (KJV)

Seems like a waste of a good millstone but who am I to argue.

    2. Excerpted from Merriam Webster; Definition of presbyter:

1 : a member of the governing body of an early Christian church

2 : a member of the order of priests in churches having episcopal hierarchies that include bishops, priests, and deacons

      3 : elder

They say that Trump is Presbyterian. Not sure about Kanye West.

  2. I concur with Gary Trieste, “Trump is like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack, he is as rich and well-positioned as the privileged entrenced, but he doesn’t have the stuck up, snooty presumptions that all the ones in power have had. He shakes it up, and lets the chips fall where they may.” and in my opinion this is why “millions of people who have been left behind and politically exploited as pawns of social justice movements.” did, and will again vote for him. If things keep chugging away as they are we will see Trump reelected in 2020.

    1. “people who have been left behind and politically exploited” = people with learning disorders and functionally illiteracy, whose numbers would greatly decline if birth control and termination of adverse pregnancies were easily available. Is that who you want to make public policy for this country and the world?

      1. Samantha, abortion is pretty easy to get. Are you promoting eugenics?

If you want to stop those problems go to the source.

        1) Drugs
        2) Leftist ideas that split up families.

    1. “Putting up with a nutty Kanye seems a small price to pay for that.”

We had a lot of nuts and fruit loops in the Obama Administration so we should all be used to odd things by now. But, I don’t think Kanye is so nutty when one analyzes his ramble and flight of ideas. He seems to have some sophisticated notions that come through sounding a lot better than most of the ideas on this blog that we hear from the left.

  3. Demeaning? Remember GloZell? Remember when President Obama sat for an interview with a crazy black woman YouTube sensation known for wearing green lipgloss and who once did her show soaking in a bathtub full of milk and Fruit Loops cereal? Yeah, Obama agreed to sit for an interview with her. So maybe that didn’t take place IN the Oval Office, but still…

  4. Sometimes around here one can still occasionally observe the bumper sticker

    Kill your television!

  5. Silly narcasitic fools. That’s all. Move along cause there is no common sense here. It would be so much more entertaining with each talking after having a spoonful of chunky peanutbutter!

  6. ha ha ha Lemon head loser and Bakari Sell- out calling out Ye — who like him or not is a highly successful artist. Who is Sellers? A NEGRO who has learned to serve his betters as he Sel whistles loudly as he carries the cornbread from the kitchen outside into the Big House to make sure no crumbs go missing.

  7. JT, you are such a prude, and I say that lovingly.
“Things are just not DONE that way!”
“The dignity of the office should not be defiled this way!”
These are things that little old ladies in small towns twitter about. Like right out of the Music Man.
The times they are a changin — now the Conservatiods are the mavericks, the ones willing to do things in ways that haven’t been done before, its why Trump was elected.
So what that this president doesn’t have such an ossified way about how he does things.
Trump is like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack, he is as rich and well-positioned as the privileged entrenced, but he doesn’t have the stuck up, snooty presumptions that all the ones in power have had. He shakes it up, and lets the chips fall where they may.
And, finally, it is not being done as haphazardly as your tunnelvisioned POV would make it out to be.
Kanye has immense influence upon the black community, and will affect the attitudes and opinions of millions of people who have been left behind and politically exploited as pawns of social justice movements.
Trump made the Oval office accessible to an icon, a maverick in his own right, and gave a sense of presence to that community, even more so than Obama, who was just as elitist as any white president.
This gave a simpatico and the feeling that the president is a normal guy happy to give a voice to those who have thought they were as shut out of it as a class.
Trump’s ratings will go up in places that the progressive left have accused him of being racist towards, and a in few fell swoops grab the allegiance of communities the progressives have been trying to woo for years.
    It is social genius.

    1. The far simpler solution, Gary, is that Trump invited Kanye West to the Oval Office for the express purpose of trolling Taylor Swift, who has given Democrats a fighting chance in Tennessee, at least, and possibly a few other unexpected States–say, Texas, for instance, or Missouri, Nevada, Florida, Indiana, Montana, Arizona and North Dakota.

      P. S. Are you sure . . . Are you really sure about this sentence, “Trump . . . gave a sense of presence to that community [African Americans], even more so than Obama, who was just as elitist as any white president”??? I could be wrong, but I think your membership in “that community” may be in jeopardy on account of kicking Obama out of the same “community.” Remember: You’re under no obligation to give yourself away like dat.

    2. “prude, and I say that lovingly.”

Yes, you said that well and in a way that many can agree with you.

  8. “Kanye sounds like a marginally functional celebrity who surrounds himself with people who constantly tell him that such idiotic thoughts are brilliant.” Well, they do say that birds of a feather flock together; commonly expressed on the interwebs as “BOAF”. (not to be confused with “boof”)
In the instant case the species in question being the male Genius Stabilis Americanus. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service indicates that they can be found in all 50 states and are sadly no where near being placed on the endangered species list (which is fake news anyway).

  9. I’m thinking that in inviting this guy to the oval office – knowing that he is a nut-case – Trump was playing to his own racist base. Trump was in effect saying, “This crazy guy is what black people are like.” Trump may frequently act like he is out of control, but he is shrewd in some ways.

    1. RDKAY:
“This crazy guy is what black people are like.”
      *******************
Okay, Mr. Racist Under Evey Bed, why did he also invite Jim Brown, who enjoys respect from every quarter of society?

    2. RDKAY you are the one sounding like a nut. Kanye may be bipolar and eccentric but if one analyized what he said they should run with it. He was for unity and the ability of blacks to rise above the plantation provided by the left.

  10. Professor Turley,
The optics today, in my opinion, will do more to help young blacks in South Chicago and other depressing black areas want to connect with Pres Trump and maybe give him a chance.
Your reaction today is exactly what I felt when we were told that Obama’s favorite musician was JayZ, who wrote the most vile sexist and anti-police lyrics. I was appalled. Obama praised, justified and elevated Jay’z’s anti-woman anti-police music.
And there was probably about a 100 times more decorum in the Oval Office today, than when Pres. Jackson’s friends were swinging from the chandeliers. 🙂
I was impressed that yesterday, Pres Trump was in the Oval Office watching Hurricane Michael, and having the director of Fema and the Homeland Security Secy there with him, explaing on live tv what was transpiring, etc…and about the preparedness of his administration.
They were all talking directly to the public, as it was happening. Very impressive!

    1. P.S. J ayZ, I would guess, was probably in the Oval Office more than most other celeb friends of Obama’s..

    2. Good points Cindy. Obama’s JayZ promoted violence, sexism and anti police behavior. That is acceptable to the left. Though Kayne West rambled and is eccentric his ideas were to promote unity and peace. Of course the left wing media couldn’t have a black person say what he said so they demeaned him terribly and will probably try to destroy his career. I’ll take Kanye’s unity message over the left’s message of violence.

  11. I don’t know what your expected President Trump to do. I did not see a suggestion in your article. Should he have tried to quiet him, that would have been seen as him trying to stifle a black man. Call the Secret Service that would have been worse.

This is the same oval office and desk where Bill Clinton had oral sex with Monica.

    1. Sex on the desk is so much less significant than a phone being placed on the desk. Come on!, I mean is there a president that didn’t have sex on the desk?

      1. Paul – are we saying that Jesus Obama did not put his cell phone on the Resolute Desk????

        1. Paul C. Remember the photo of Obama with his feet on the desk? I think George Jr. did that too.

          1. Cindy Bragg – well, if it is good enough for Jesus Obama, it is good enough for Kayne. 😉

    1. Uh huh. Five of the last eight former Presidents hoovered up large sums in fees paid for routine public appearances. At least two of the three remainder received homoraria episodically. Seven of the last eight former Presidents had security details following them around from the moment they left office; the only one who abstained (after he’d been out of office for 12 years) was Richard Nixon. Harry Truman, whom Puerto Rican nationalists nearly assassinated in 1950, wasn’t offered a detail until 1965. The last President of the more dignified era was…Lyndon Johnson. (Richard Nixon’s curt – and accurate – description of his predecessor was ‘animal’). As for John Kennedy, a concise description was offered by Adela Rogers St. John: “He screwed anything that didn’t have four legs, and I’m not even sure he didn’t do that”).

  12. CNN etc. as spokepimples for the left just proved they were heavily into racism. Add that to Sexism and religious or philosophical bigotry they have not much left except porn.
