“The Great Satan”: Farrakhan Finds His Happy Place . . . In Tehran

While many Americans are calling for greater unity in the country, anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan is in Tehran spewing his usual hateful message including reportedly leading a chant of “Death to America” and calling America the “Great Satan.” Despite the reprehensible comments in support of a nation that spreads terrorism and oppresses its own people, I still believe that it is protected speech despite the existence of the Logan Act, which makes it illegal for citizens to intervene in disputes or controversies between the United States and foreign governments.  That Act is widely viewed as unconstitutional and has never been used to convict a single U.S. citizen since it was enacted in 1799.

Farrakhan pledged to fight the enemies of the Iranian people and said “I would like to stay alongside you to stop their plots.”  On the issue of the new sanctions, he said that this was just the “Great Satan” being the “Great Satan.”  He calls upon Iranians to remain steadfast in their movement to create Islamic governments throughout the world and to combat the United States in its efforts.

Farrakhan presence and commentary in Iran is the greatest possible defense for our nation.  Surely some Iranians might marvel at the fact that such comments against their own country would lead to arrest if not death.  So the country that Farrakhan denounces is the country that allows a hate-spewing anti-Semitic hypocrite like him to continue to speak and thrive.

That does not mean that the rest of us cannot, again, denounce Farrakhan and his Islamic movement.  Indeed, leaders like Bill Clinton has been recently criticized for sharing a stage with Farrakhan (even though he once compared Hillary Clinton to Hitler).  The stage at Aretha Franklin’s funeral also featured Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson who have previously appeared with Farrakhan as has Barack Obama.  Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the Democratic National Committee deputy chair has also been criticized for his past association with Farrakhan, though he later denounced Farrakhan’s views.  That includes a private dinner of Ellison with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Farrakhan in 2013.

Yet, we can condemn the speaker without criminalizing the speech.  That is what distinguishes us from the clerics of Iran.  Freedom.

  1. We need to round up muslim terrorists within our borders and lock them up in concentration camps– just outside the sanctuary city of LA. Read Korematsu.

      1. Boston Latin School. from wiki.

Farrakhan was born Louis Eugene Walcott in The Bronx, New York, the younger of two sons of Sarah Mae Manning (January 16, 1900 – November 18, 1988) and Percival Clark, immigrants from the Caribbean islands. His mother was born in Saint Kitts and Nevis. His father was Jamaican. The couple split before Louis was born. Farrakhan says he never knew his biological father.[8] In a 1996 interview with Henry Louis Gates Jr., he speculated that his father, “Gene”, may have been Jewish.[9][10] After his parents separated, his mother moved in with Louis Walcott from Barbados, who became his stepfather. After Louis’ stepfather died in 1936, the Walcott family moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where they settled in the West Indian neighborhood of Roxbury.[8]

Starting at the age of six, Walcott received rigorous training in the violin.[11] He received his first violin at the age of six, and by the time he was 13 years old he had played with the Boston College Orchestra and the Boston Civic Symphony.[8] A year later, he went on to win national competitions. In 1946, he was one of the first black performers to appear on the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour,[11] where he also won an award. He and his family were active members of the Episcopal St. Cyprian’s Church in Roxbury.[8]

Walcott attended the prestigious Boston Latin School, and later the English High School, from which he graduated.[12] He completed three years at Winston-Salem Teachers College, where he had a track scholarship.[13]

        Marriage and family
Walcott married Betsy Ross while he was in college. (She later took the name Khadijah Farrakhan.) She lived in Boston,[when?] and was pregnant with their child. Due to complications from the pregnancy, Walcott dropped out after completing his junior year of college to devote time to her and their child. They are still married.[citation needed]

Farrakhan has nine children: four sons (Mustapha, Joshua Nasir, Abnar, and Louis Jr.) and five daughters (Donna, Hanan, Maria, Fatimah, and Khallada).[1]

    1. Putting aside that Ezra Pound was a fan of Mussolini and Hitler, he did have some exceptional literary talent, as evidenced by this early, but slightly imperfect, limerick:

There was a young man from the West,
      He did what he could for what he thought best;
      But election came round,
      He found himself drowned,
And the papers will tell you the rest.

    2. speak plainly David, this is the internet and nobody admires you for being oblique

I’d say what separates us from the radical Iranian mullahs is about five hundred years of enlightened Western thought of which freedom is but one feature. Europe needs another Granada to rid them of this virus on the body politic and we need an inoculation before it gets here in a substantial way. The travel ban is a good start along with tighter screening and ending chain migration.

    1. Beautiful music. How did she manage to avoid getting that perpetual red callous that the great violinists tend to have?

    2. his violin expertise is a different idiom but it shows discipline and skill. why insult the man for skill and discipline? now listen to his Calypso… yes he was a talented performer

I don’t care much for black leadership these days but in my estimation he’s admirable on many levels. But, I’m not black and they don’t care what I think. that’s fine. I say this for white folks who are reading this.

this age hates strong men. Louis We should get in touch with our natural instincts. A natural healthy soul admires strength of character and resolve and resiliency shown over decades. I admire Trump, I admire Louis, and I wish them both long lives.

  3. The more fool he. Think we should tell him that Iran is one of the most racist countries in the world? https://www.commentarymagazine.com/foreign-policy/middle-east/iran/iran-should-confront-its-own-racism/

Anecdotally, I recall a Persian man explaining how Iranians were superior to Egyptian Muslims because they had mixed African ancestry.

Then there were the racist comments of Mohammad, who likened Ethiopians to shriveled raisins and valued a black slave as half that of a white one. So…there’s that…

Farrakhan is a fool, and so is anyone who associates with him. He is being manipulated. He should see what happens when he protests the racism in Iran.

    1. Aryan = Iran cognate words
Farsi is an Indo European language
      They are a non-Arabic people

But…. in this article, some Iranian American guy says he is a person of color (ie a favored minority) even though he appears racially white, because, ya know, white folks are bad, and Iranians aren’t bad, so they can’t be white

      https://ajammc.com/2013/12/03/are-iranians-people-of-color/

      not a simple question

  4. Farrakhan sounds like a Semitic name. He is probably anti-Jewish rather than anti-Semitic which refers to Arabs and others with Semitic ancestry.

    1. Interesting..FaRRAkhan is actually a persian name.Theres a street in Iran named farakhan

  5. The worst thing you could say about Farrakhan is actually that he has failed to eliminate a lot of the nonsense that went into Wallace Fard Muhammad’s “idiosyncratic” form of Islam, which was perpetuated by Elijah Muhammad. The mother ship, Yacub, etc. Silliness.

The appeals to black people as an ethnocentric group are not “racist.” Liberals always call ethnocentrisms they mistrust “racist.” So if it is a weak or “socially marginalized” group like some native american tribe, then ethnocentrism is ok. If it’s the Jewish Law then ethnocentrism is ok. But if it’s blacks well then they need to denounce that. And DEFINITELY any kind of white ethnocentrism is bad bad bad, naughty!

Liberals worship at the altar of the individual. Every kind of social community that makes a claim on a person is antithetical to liberals. We had a poster on here not too long ago reciting objectivist dogma about this topic as if people don’t even have parents to whom they owe a biological note of thanks.

    No man is an island!

  6. I also think that Trump’s sanctions on Iran are excessive and counterproductive. The Mullahs like sanctions, btw. They have helped prop up their authority now for decades

Also i listened to the clip. What did he say exactly?
He said “is it not true that you have called America the Great Satan?”

he did not exactly call it that; even if he implied it— no need to over state the case.

Also to be fair, there are Luciferian elements in the western Enlightenment. I dont say Satanic, but I do say Luciferian. For starters, the elevation of reason and math and technology to the highest level. I don’t need to explain, if you are well educated then you get my point. But if you don’t get that then you don’t get the difference between the Muslim world and the West.

    1. don’t need to explain, if you are well educated then you get my point. But if you don’t get that then you don’t get the difference between the Muslim world and the West.

That’s hilarious. If I have to explain to you why, then you’re a moron.

      1. im not calling you a moron, I just don’t have time to elaborate the subject

I refer you to Oswald Spenger’s book Decline of the West, the Faustian cultural type, versus the Magian cultural type

Or you could get this out of Nietzsche and Heidegger. I’m not a professer, I can’t explain things well, but the idea may be of interest to you once you get over disliking me for saying it

        1. im not calling you a moron,…

🙂 I never said you were, nor would I care if you had. They’re just words. I merely thought it was humorous how you attempted to make a statement that would be self-evidently true only if one were well-educated.

but the idea may be of interest to you once you get over disliking me for saying it.

Now I would be a moron if I allowed you to have that kind of control over what I found interesting to study. You don’t…

          1. i have no control over anybody but myself. nonetheless, i recommend the works of Nietzsche and Heidegger.

Here is a good one about Heidegger’s essay on “Niezsche’s Word: God is Dead” and its meaning, that encompasses what I was ineptly hinting at in my comment

            https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00131857.2016.1165012?journalCode=rept20

I’m sorry I am so poor at communicating, but these works hold tremendous value for understanding exactly where we are today

  7. Until the next time the US needs Iran and sells it weapons. Farakan does look like his hair is not too tight though. What Turley is pointing out here is freedom of speech by an Islamist wing nut, however selective he is in this.

  8. And, if you hadn’t publicized this, no one would have known about it because no one cares what Farrahkan says or does. Of course, since this is the day before the midterms, the disciples need some red meat, and therefore, there’s references to HRC and President Obama.

  9. Let’s see, Farrakhan and Barbara Streisand and all their buddies don’t like america, but they never leave. Michele Moore, Alec Baldwin and all their buddies hate this country, but they never leave.

    1. “…Barbara Streisand and all their buddies don’t like america, but they never leave. Michele Moore, Alec Baldwin and all their buddies hate this country, but they never leave.”

They hate this country, you say? Where’s your proof.

    2. Most of those you named and most USers love their country for it’s multicultural diversity. If you don’t like the multicultural diversity, go somewhere else like Israel or Saudi Arabia where white male supremacy is national policy.

    3. Farrakhan and Streisand have almost nothing in common except that they are both singers. Or he used to be, at least

  10. “Farrakhan is bad, but Trump is worse…” TDS victims are compelled to make EVERY STORY on earth about Trump. Worse than a scorned person stalking his ex-lover.

Hey, Prog: which admin sold the Al Saud Krime Family Syndikate most of the weapons it used in the current proxy war in Yemen with Iran, which has caused hundreds of thousands of innocent civilian deaths and the current famine and starvation in Yemen? Hint: a handsome, half-black, half-baked, nicotine addicted Kenyan POTUS.

Hey, Progs: got an image of Trump with David Duke (same KKK rank as the Democrat deceased Senator Robert Byrd)? https://www.myajc.com/news/local/could-this-long-lost-photo-have-derailed-obama-2008-campaign/jC8NKhQr6a72VjRYY9o0EM/

Vote Democrat! The black abortion rate is a measly 45%! We can do better than that! Hope’N Change! Help Democrats achieve 100% abortion rate for black Americans! Yay!

  11. Iranians know better than to believe the nonsense promulgated by the State Media. Farrakahan’s just noise–as he has no true clue about the state of affairs in Iran–he needs to educate himself on Islam, read true thinkers like Mohsen Kadivar (a professor at Duke) to understand that what goes on in Iran is not Islam. If he also claims to be a “civil rights campaigner”, he needs to be reminded of lawyers like Nasrin Soutodeh, her husband Reza Khandan who are in prison right now–just this morning, another newspaper editor was picked up. He also needs to be reminded of those like Sadegh Zibakalam (who has a conviction under appeal) who has refused to disrespect the US flag and many students have taken their queue from him. I urge the JT Community to check out Sadegh Zibakalam, Nasrin Soutodeh and others and do all that you can to help to be supportive of the Freedom Movement in Iran.

    1. non anonymous is a religious scholar? on the contrary, Iranians are predominantly Shiite Muslims and what goes on there is only “not Islam” if you are a Wahabist hardliner who thinks they are heretics.

    2. Farrakhan is 85 yrs old been he doing this a long time. You would be pissing and sh–ng on yourself right if you were Iran right now and the zionist are media was doing an all out media blizt on you trying to turn the whole world against you to actually have you killed. Now watch how Allah works and bring him thru.SO be quiet and try to learn something please.

  12. I used to live is South Phoenix where the Nation of Islam has its Winter compound. It is Very Nice. 🙂 I have only seen it from the outside, however they spent a lot of money on it and built a huge fence around it. They have some good things going for them and some bad.

    1. I’m near Chicago and been driving past Mosque Maryam on Stony Island for many decades. It has always been the best part of the neighborhood, which, not recently but some long time ago, definitely qualified as what Trump called “s%^thole”

They are an orderly presence in a miasma of disorder. I think denouncing Louis Farrakhan is done mostly by people from outside Chicagoland who have no clue all the good things he has done for the local community

He says inflammatory things. A lot of people do. What I like his how law abiding and orderly the whole crew is. Give some credit.

Is it in spite of his nationalism? Maybe it’s because of it. Liberals hate nationalists, whatever their skin color. They hated Marcus Garvey, too!

  13. Farakhan seems not to understand the true realities about Iran–Suggest he reads leading internal dissenters like Sadegh Zibakalam who refused to walk over the US Flag–and who has been convicted and his case is under appeal right now as I write this. What he did is an insult to the thousands who languish in Iranian Prisons including Nasrin Soutodeh, her husband Reza Khandan, teachers and other civil activists. This is also as I note that the leaders of the Green Movement of 2009, Mehdi Karoubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi continue to be under detention..and the former President Mohammad Khatami under a ban as well-what all need to realize is that what goes on in Iran is against the very teachings of Islam he claims to speak up for–I suggest he reads up on the writings of Mohsen Khadivar, who now serves as a Professor at Duke–as I urge the JT community to not listen to the “noise” by him–yes Freedom of Speech is important–but I would humbly note to Professor Turley that with Freedoms, comes responsibility–there lies the challenge.

    1. YAWN what do you know. Do you know how many times Louis Farrakhan made the hajj? Have you seen his passport to count all the Muslim nations he has visited? Did you study religion with him? I think you are just a pompous anonymous nobody. Put up your CV if you want your criticisms to hold water.

      I wont hold my breath

  14. You don’t have a President like that. When you rejected your USA citizenship and took allegiance to a foreign ideology and did so openly you also lost your status to say. My Country and My President. Instead go find this Democracy you keep talking about and live there not in our Representative Constitutional Republic. But look elsewhere. You won’t find it here.

    1. But he’s not. they’ve most assuredly spied on him since the 1960s.
A lot of people visit Iran. Just going there and making a speech is not supporting terror.

I won’t go but I know folks who have. It’s over-rated as an adversary.
And, it’s a far more tolerant place than our “Saudi ally’s” “Kingdom”

  15. How is he any different than our president who embraces the Saudis, the Russians and the rest of the autocratic underverse. I don’t like Farakan, never did but when we have a president like the vain glorious dictator loving Trump it’s hard to get headup about a loud mouthed nut like LF.

    1. Justice Holmes:

“How is he any different than our president who embraces the Saudis, the Russians and the rest of the autocratic underverse.”
      *************************
Yeah Trump loves Putin all right, what with with increased economic sanctions, new missiles in Poland aimed at Moscow, new armaments to the Ukrainians, killing Russian troops in Syria and confronting Russian planes. As for the Saudis, his valentine to them was making us energy independent of OPEC and threatening severe sanctions if it’s proven that Khashoggi was murdered at the behest of the House of Saud. With friends like Trump, Russia and Saudi don’t need enemies. Do you ever watch the news or just CNN?
