Did The Saudis Just Kill Another Journalist?

Turki-Bin-Abdul-Aziz-Al-Jasser-DYlhPo7W4AIfVM0The family of Turki Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Jasser is alleging that the jouranalist was tortured to death by the Saudi government just as the government is dealing with an investigation into the murder of Washington Post Journalist Jamal Khashoggi at its Istanbul consulate. The Saudi government was allegedly seeking proof that Al-Jasser ran a Twitter account called Kashkool, which exposed human rights violations by officials and the royals.  The irony is of course crushing that the Saudis would torture a journalist to try to discover who is accusing it of human rights violations.

The investigation was managed by Saud al-Qahtani, the notorious aide to Crown Prince Mohammad who was also involved in the murder of  Khashoggi.

The pathetic and transparent lies told by the Saudi government after Khashoggi’s murder continue to undermine any credibility of the government in claiming to want to discover the truth about what happened.  Now, the death of al-Jasser highlights the continue authoritarian abuses of the regime and its suppression of journalists in the Kingdom.

“Both Mr. Nader and Mr. Zamel are witnesses in the investigation by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, and prosecutors have asked them about their discussions with American and Saudi officials about the Iran proposal. It is unclear how this line of inquiry fits into Mr. Mueller’s broader inquiry. In 2016, a company owned by Mr. Zamel, Psy-Group, had pitched the Trump campaign on a social media manipulation plan.”

“Mr. Nader and Mr. Zamel enlisted Erik Prince, the former head of Blackwater and an adviser to the Trump transition team. They had already discussed elements of their plan with Mr. Prince, in a meeting when they learned of his own paramilitary proposals that he planned to try to sell to the Saudis. A spokesman for Mr. Prince declined to comment.”

Mark Mazzetti reported from Washington, Ronen Bergman from Tel Aviv and David D. Kirkpatrick from London.

  2. no matter how ugly this might be, it is still the truth. This is an internal Saudi matter to be handled as they see fit. Very much like it is Our business and No one else’s Who we Allow to visit or live in these United States. it is an internal affair

  3. George W. Bush started an immoral war. Now he’s getting the Liberty Medal because nothing matters

    Excerpts:

In announcing in July that the Bushes would be receiving the same Liberty Medal that’s been draped around actual freedom fighters like Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, and Rep. John Lewis, the Constitution Center cited the couple’s work with returning soldiers through George W. Bush’s Military Service Initiative, which helps them cope with “the invisible wounds” of a disastrous war of choice that was launched by the 43rd president; his No. 2, Dick Cheney; and their posse.

Helping our veterans is a very good thing, and, yeah, it’s a better way for the ex-president to spend his retirement years than devoting every waking moment to lucrative speeches on the hedge-fund-billionaire rubber-chicken circuit. But let’s be honest: W.’s post-presidential good deeds are a kind of a mandatory community-service sentence after an administration that was essentially a criminal enterprise that caused America’s standing in the world to plummet (not for the last time, unfortunately).

It’s a pretty safe bet that no one on the Constitution Center’s panel that selected the Bushes for the now-tarnished Liberty Medal consulted with the Iraq-born novelist Sinan Antoon, who wrote in the New York Times in March that “Fifteen Years Ago, America Destroyed My Country” and noted that estimates of as many as one million dead mean the war “is often spoken of in the United States as a ‘blunder,’ or even a ‘colossal mistake,’ ” but, he writes, “It was a crime.”

We do know this: To make their splendid little war happen, Bush and his minions lied again and again — about “ticking time bombs” that had been unplugged years earlier, about weapons of mass destruction that did not exist, and about ties between Iraq’s Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda that never were. The Iraq war has destabilized the Middle East to this day and paved the way for the rise of a new anti-American group called ISIS that remains a murderous scourge. And it made the world safe for oil, right at the moment when the planet’s survival depends on moving away from fossil fuels.

The Iraq war alone should be disqualifying, but there’s so much more to this sordid story. Team Bush also manipulated the post-9/11 mood to bring back waterboarding and other forms of torture that are clearly illegal, thanks to a 1988 treaty enacted and praised by conservative icon Ronald Reagan. Detainees who were mostly innocent — rounded up by bounty hunters seeking easy cash — were both abused and held for years without charges at the Guantanamo prison camp, in a stunning betrayal of American values, while others were whisked to CIA black sites around the world or tortured at notorious prisons like Afghanistan’s Bagram or Iraq’s Abu Ghraib.

    1. We have another disgrace in the White House. The same side with their cheap slogans and shallow morals, put an even bigger fool in the Oval Office. These backward dupes are the same ones that see the word progressive as bad.

  4. In the U.S., some will recall Michael Hastings, but we know that his death was simply an unfortunate and tragic “accident.” And anyone who thinks otherwise is a “conspiracy theorist.”

Jill mentioned Julian Assange. Let’s see what happens to him.

    1. Julian Assange’s international extradition attorney and cyber security expert were murdered.

  5. The pathetic and transparent lies told by the Saudi government, AND ACCEPTED BY USGINC. after Khashoggi’s murder continue to undermine any credibility of EITHER government in claiming to want to discover the truth about what happened. Now, the death of al-Jasser highlights the continued authoritarian abuses of the regime AND THE EMBRACE OF THOSE ABUSES BY USGINC. and its suppression of journalists in the Kingdom WHICH IS FULLY ACCEPTABLE TO USGING WHO IS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO KILL JULIAN ASSANGE.

The US, Israel and Saudi Arabia are the world’s leading terrorist nations. There is nothing any of these states will not do and no matter how evil or depraved any particular state’s action is, the others will be in there supporting it and helping the others to commit atrocities. That’s what it has come to. This man’s murder is horrifying.

    1. “The US, Israel and Saudi Arabia are the world’s leading terrorist nations.”

I intensely dislike Saudi Arabia and do not object to it being on a list of “terrorist nations” based on an appropriate definition but the rest of that statement indicates Jill is bat sh-t crazy.

      1. Allan, an Israeli pilot presses a button and slaughters a hundred Palestinians, women and children, to make a point. A Palestinian ‘terrorist’ blows himself or herself up along with a dozen or so women and children to make a point. The pilot goes home for lunch. Both sides are wrong.

To say one side is right and the other is wrong is the definition of war, either you’re with us or against us, Vietnam-we’re killing them for their own good, Iraq-there’s a US flag under every bed, Syria-don’t do that-don’t make me say it again, etc. etc. etc. History separates the causes of evil from those caught up in the tragedy. The average soldier: American, German, Confederate, or any other soldier of a crime like: Vietnam, WW 2, the Civil War is not the cause of the tragedy but a part of the tragedy. The causes were the American oligarchs of the industrial/military complex, Nazis, and the Southern Slave dependent oligarchs. There is no place behind any medal whatsoever for Bush or any of his handlers. They caused too much evil.

It’s all very simple. It has always been very simple. Just because people died so the White Southerners could pray to god and have slaves does not mean they were good people. They were evil. Just like the Nazis. There were a lot of heroic Nazis that were Catholics, Protestants, loved their children, dogs, etc.

Patriotism manipulated by oligarchs and special interests overrides freedom and democracy, the freedom and democracy that, if permitted, would do away with the oligarchs, despots, liars, etc.

  6. Certainly the United Nations Human Rights Council will conduct a thorough investigation where the member states will vote to…do nothing.

  7. Like most other common criminals; once they evade responsibility for one heinous crime they become only emboldened to commit others, and with less inhibition.

  8. Sussex Univ. Professor, Kees van der Pijl, claims Israelis carried out 9/11 attack.

He tweeted to say: “Not Saudis, Israelis blew up Twin Towers with help from Zionists in US govt”.

    3,000 dead Americans.

The Chain murders of Iran[1][2] (Persian:قتل‌های زنجیره‌ای), or Serial murders of Iran,[citation needed] were a series of 1988–98 murders and disappearances of certain Iranian dissident intellectuals who had been critical of the Islamic Republic system in some way;[3][4][5] the murders and disappearances were carried out by Iranian government internal operatives.

The victims included more than 80 writers, translators, poets, political activists, and ordinary citizens,[6][7] and were killed by a variety of means—car crashes, stabbings, shootings in staged robberies, injections with potassium to simulate heart attack—in what some believe was an attempt to avoid connection between them.[8] The pattern of murders did not come to light until late 1998 when Dariush Forouhar, his wife Parvaneh Eskandari Forouhar, and three dissident writers were murdered over a span of two months.[9]

On 1 November 2006, Litvinenko suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized. He died three weeks later, becoming the first confirmed victim of lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome.[1] Litvinenko’s allegations about the misdeeds of the FSB and his public deathbed accusations that Russian president Vladimir Putin was behind his unusual malady resulted in worldwide media coverage.[2]

The 1989 Tianinmen Square protests were forcibly suppressed…in what became known in the West as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, troops with automatic rifles and tanks fired at the demonstrators trying to block the military’s advance towards Tiananmen Square. The number of civilian deaths has been estimated variously from 180 to 10,454.[2][5]

A declassified National Security Agency cable filed on the same day estimated 180–500 deaths up to the morning of 4 June.[166] Amnesty International’s estimates puts the number of deaths at between several hundred and close to 1,000,[165][167] while a Western diplomat who compiled estimates put the number at 300 to 1,000.[4]

    1. Sussex Univ. Professor, Kees van der Pijl, claims Israelis carried out 9/11 attack.

The University of Sussex actually hired him away from another school. That should tell you to not study political science at the University of Sussex. The political science department at Depaul employed and attempted to grant tenure to Norman Finkelstein (which the superordinate committees vetoed). That should tell you to stay away from their department too.

      1. If the Chicoms want to recruit a new “Congressperson” to their service, then they may look no further than the fastest growing Chinese community in America, Flushing NY, which is in borough of Queens, rep by the new “Democratic Socialist,” Ocasio Cortes.

Gobs of cash change hands every minute at the casinos nearby. Anyhow Difi’s Chicom spy will be easily replaced by ten others, I imagine.

Keep an eye on Ocasio Cortes to march to the PRC drum .

  9. I do not know what anyone is surprised by this. Parts of the House of Saud are not to be trusted.

      1. David Benson is the God Emperor of Making Stuff Up and owes me twenty-three citations (one from the OED, one from the town ordinances and two from the Old Testament) and the source of a quotation, after twenty-two weeks, and needs to cite all his work from now on. – I feel the same way about the US government. There are parts I can trust and parts I cannot trust.

I hardly think that makes me naïve. Rather it makes me pragmatic.

        1. So silly, Paul. And with this near-constant refrain goes any wee bit of credibility… No one owes anyone anything on a blog. JT’s postings are generally interesting but the comments are like pissing in the wind.
