“You Love Those Dogs More Than You Love Me”: Chicago Attorney Arrested After Throwing Wife’s Dogs Off Balcony

Chicago attorney Jerald Jeske, 51, believed that his wife loved her two Chihuahuas more than she loved him. One could certainly understand why she would feel that way after he then proceeded to throw both dogs off their balcony. According to WGN-TV in Chicago reported, one was killed and one survived long enough to run off (and has not been found).

According to Heavy.com, the dog’s are owned by Jerry Jeske’s 55-year-old wife. According to her Facebook page, she and Jeske were engaged in October 2016. While arguing in their car, Jeske said “You love those dogs more than you love me. … I’m going to kill those dogs.” He then grabbed her keys and ran into the apartment. To her horror, she watched as he threw the dogs off the balcony. A 14-year-old Chihuahua named “Flo” survived the fall but ran off.

What is strange is that Jeske is facing one count of aggravated cruelty to animals in the death of the 16-year-old Chihuahua. The facts would seem to warrant at least two such counts.

510 ILCS 70/3.02: Aggravated Cruelty is defined as: “intentionally commit an act that causes a companion animal to suffer serious injury or death.” That would cover both dogs.  If convicted he faces 1 to 3 years in state prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Of course, there is also the matter of his law license.  Aggravated animal cruelty is a Class 4 felony in Illinois, according to state law.

Jerry Jeske is an in-house attorney with the Swiss-based commodity trading company Mercuria Energy Trading, a job that he is unlikely to be able to continue. He is listed as vice president at Mercuria and is a chief compliance officer. He previously worked as a director of commodities compliance at Barclays Capital and as compliance counsel at BP America Inc. WOR operations. He also practiced at the large firm Foley & Lardner. He is a graduate of Chicago Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Wisconsin as an undergraduate.

He was also scheduled to speak at a conference, Energy Risk USA, in May 2019, which seems equally unlikely even if he secures his freedom. There certainly is something about throwing pets off balconies that does not sit well with most human beings.

  1. Oh my God, those poor little dogs. Their owner must be absolutely beside herself. My heart goes out to her. That could have been her he’d killed.

What kind of sorry excuse for a man harms a little dog out of jealousy or rage? A good man protects the weak. If he truly thought her regard for him had vanished, then they should have gotten a divorce.

I can understand why she cared more about the dogs than him. Those dogs probably gave her unquestioning loyalty and unconditional love, while he was a fiend.

I hope she finds her injured dog and the she will be OK.

    1. Should through him off a balcony and see how he lands! What a jerk.
He should serve his term working for an animal shelter.

  2. My wife tells me that she loves our dogs more than me all the time. I’ve just become use to it.

  3. ANYONE WHO POSES..

WITH A TOOTHPICK IN THEIR MOUTH..

    HAS SOCIOPATHIC TENDENCIES

And the fact his wife is 4 years older means this subject needed a mama figure. Too bad she didn’t run after him fast enough to stop this mindless act.

  4. What is that thing sticking out of his mouth in the photo? Dog hair?
Penalty for the crime: Throw him off the same balcony. An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. And death to a killer.

    1. Liberty2nd – I am not sure about the state law but probably the dogs are considered chattel. I do think he made his point though. 😉

  5. Inexplicably absent from the post is that Jeske struck his wife in the altercation. Allegedly, of course, That merits some jail time too for Narcissistic Ned!

  6. Chicago attorney Jerald Jeske, 51, believed that his wife loved her two Chihuahuas more than she loved him.

Again, this man is 51 years old and it’s his 2d marriage. His wife was too old to have children. The whole point at that age is to build a companionable domestic life. If you’re that proud or that pathologically needy, you’re not fit for anyone else.

  7. Chicago attorney

That tells you what you need to know. (1) He’s a lawyer and (2) he doesn’t have an ordinary law practice. It’s a reasonable wager he has a long history of being a sh!t to service personnel and to the hourly staff every place he’s worked over the years.

    1. If he wanted that, he’d be working in the state attorney-general’s office and doing scut work for his precinct captain (if he weren’t the precinct captain himself).

  9. Having lived with a Chihuahua, I know where he is coming from. That particular dog was cited as a vicious animal and had to go to court because it kept barking at the school children who would walk by. It did sound mean, I will give her her due. However, once in court, butter would not melt in her mouth and she was let off.

I can see how he would do it. They are yippee little dogs and can be very annoying. And he was probably right. She does care about the dogs more than him, especially now. 😉
