Trump Associate: “Our boy can become president of the USA and we can engineer it.”

A new set of emails has become public that shows the extent of the effort to secure a Trump Tower deal in Moscow during the election. The most notable emails are between two of Trump’s associates: Michael Cohen and Felix Sater. Sater’s boasting about Trump and Putin was previously known but now the emails have been disclosed. In one email, Sater (who seems to rival Cohen in competition for the most seedy Trump associations) brags about his close contacts with Putin and how he can get the Tower approved. He then adds “I will get Putin on this program and we will get Donald elected.” He also that it would be “pretty cool to get a USA President elected” and, if successful, wanted to be the ambassador to the Bahamas: “That my friend is the home run I want out of this.” With the Mueller report now reportedly coming within the month, the emails could be used to show a strong business interest in Moscow — an interest that continued during the campaign.

Sater assured Cohen that he had the access to Putin and that he could seal the deal. Sater is one of many Trump associates who comes across as breathtakingly sleazy. What is also striking is how clueless both men appear. Sater is convinced that getting the effective endorsement of Putin or some favorable review of Trump’s business skills would guarantee his election. It is hard to imagine that anyone would be so dim to believe that favorable statements from Putin would be a major, if not decisive, advantage for an American candidate for president. He also excitedly says that he arranged for Ivanka to sit in Putin’s chair in Moscow.

Sater could prove important in his connections with the scandal-plagued VTB Bank, a Russian bank under American sanctions for sinister deals and funding (particularly in relation to the Ukraine). Sater also discussed how he would show Putin’s people videotapes of Trump praising Putin. That could be used to show that Trump’s controversial campaign praise for Putin was being used directly to try to secure the deal in Moscow. In combination with Trump’s insistence that he had no dealings with Russia, it could help support a damaging narrative. Yet, this would only show dishonesty at best on the business interests of Trump in Moscow not collusion in the hacking of email systems.

Moreover, Cohen told Congress that he viewed Sater’s statements as puffery. Indeed, Sater seems as out of touch with reality as he does ill-informed about politics. Yet, there remains the ongoing problem of Trump hiring or associating with incredibly corrupt and sleazy people like Cohen, Sater, and Paul Manafort. Sater is not only a former FBI informant but someone who infamously smashed a martini glass in the face of another man.

Sater’s emails fulfill a narrative that connects Trump’s positive Putin comments to his business interests in Moscow. Again, that is not good politically but it is not incriminating on the hacking operation (which is not referenced in the emails).

  1. Bill Martin,…
-Stop asking straightforward questions and expecting straight answers from L4B.
That is harassment and an “unruly demand”; it also is rude and unacceptable communication directed to one whose native language is Dianese and DoubleSpeak.

    1. Good morning to you, too, Krazy Kat. It’s another Friday; you know. I wonder if Matty Whitaker will have the gumption to show up before Jerry Nadler’s committee.

      P. S. Don’t worry; your curb feelers will grow back eventually.

      1. Thanks….keep working on your English language skills.
I actually thought I saw some progress in those skills in one of your earlier comments.

  2. Ms. Late4Yoga: I clicked on to the Jon Turley’s site today and see under Recent Comments four entries by you of which I am not going to read a one (white noise). Instead I am simply going to ask you what the outcome is that you would like to see for President Trump? Please keep response simple and right to the point. By asking you to succinctly respond to that question I am trying to help you feel better and move on – so please get it off your chest (brief and to the point) and go in peace. Good day Ma’am.

    1. Defeat at the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire in 2020.

Now stop making unruly demands of other people.

I clicked on to the Jon Turley’s site today and see under Recent Comments four entries by you of which I am not going to read a one (white noise).

In an unforced, spontaneous confession, Tab Lockheed admits that 1) he didn’t read Turley’s original post for this thread; 2) he didn’t read anybody else’s comments on this thread, either; and 3) he looks for targets of opportunity on the Recent Comments queue in the manner of a drive-by poster. More speculatively, but testable, Beak Guitar may not be receiving email notification of new comments.

  3. Felix Sater wrote, ““I will get Putin on this program and we will get Donald elected.”

Turley wrote, “It is hard to imagine that anyone would be so dim to believe that favorable statements from Putin would be a major, if not decisive, advantage for an American candidate for president.”

There’s an alternate interpretation to Sater’s statement cited above: “Putin . . . will get Donald elected.” Yes. But how? Use your imagination. Or read a newspaper. Which ever works best for you.

    1. “Turley wrote, “It is hard to imagine that anyone would be so dim to believe that favorable statements from Putin would be a major, if not decisive, advantage for an American candidate for president.””

We found someone that dim, Diane.

      1. You failed to use your imagination. Putin’s hack and leak operation got Trump elected.

        1. “You failed to use your imagination. Putin’s hack and leak operation got Trump elected.”

Imagination and fantasy are the only things you use.

Do you mean nothing else in the election counted? Not even Ukranian interference for Hillary? Putin wasn’t working for Trump but the illegallities going on at the FBI were working for Hillary. The official record states not one vote was changed by the Russians.

Next thing I expect to hear from you is blaming Hillary’s loss on Obama because he said the Russians weren’t doing anything.

Blame, blame, blame, that is all you leftists ever do. Your never able to take responsibility for your own actions.

          1. Putin’s hack and leak operation was dedicated to the purpose of getting Trump elected.

            1. “Putin’s hack and leak operation was dedicated to the purpose of getting Trump elected.”

              1) We don’t know which side any Russian activities may have helped.
              2) Obama didn’t do his job when he flat out stated Russian interference didn’t exist.
              3) As it turns out Trump is Putin’s worst nightmare.
              4) No one believes any votes were tampered with by the Russians.
              5) Voter fraud in the US exists mostly because without voter fraud Democrats would be losing more elections.

  4. Turley wrote, “Moreover, Cohen told Congress that he viewed Sater’s statements as puffery.”

Cohen also pled guilty lying to Congress when Cohen said that negotiations for the Trump Tower Moscow ended in January of 2016. We have all previously read Turley impeach Cohen’s credibility as a witness on the grounds that Cohen is an admitted liar. So why should Cohen’s credibility suddenly be restored when Cohen dismisses Sater’s statements as puffery? Why pursue a real-estate deal with a man whose statements about that real-estate deal are to be dismissed as puffery? Why lie to Congress and plead guilty to lying to Congress about everything else except the puffery of Felix Sater’s statements about the Trump Tower Moscow deal? Cognitive bias? Path dependence? Or ethical duty to represent one’s client to the best of one’s ability?

  5. Turley wrote, “Yet, this would only show dishonesty at best on the business interests of Trump in Moscow not collusion in the hacking of email systems.”

There he goes again. Turley remains committed to the notion that Mueller has to prove a conspiracy to hack email systems between the Trump campaign and Russia in order for Mueller to make his case-in-chief for Conspiracy to Defraud the United States. While it is possible that Mueller could uncover evidence of Roger Stone soliciting the September 24th, 2016, GRU hack of the DNC data analytics at the Amazon Web Services cloud storage system, proving solicitation of hacking from the GRU is not strictly necessary to make the case for conspiracy under the defraud clause of 18 USC 371.

Instead, what Mueller needs to prove is that the Trump campaign knowingly received an illegal foreign campaign contribution from the Russian hack and leak operation and agreed to conceal that illegal foreign campaign contribution, by deceptive or dishonest means, from the FEC and other agencies of the United States so that the Trump campaign could benefit from the Russian hack and leak operation. Mueller has already shown that members of the Trump campaign and Trump associates have taken numerous overt acts in the form of false statements and lying to Congress in the furtherance of that Conspiracy to Defraud the United States. It’s the Trump campaign’s knowing reception of the illegal foreign campaign contribution from Russia that Mueller has not yet demonstrated.

    1. Mespo,..
Have you ever toured the Virginia Governor’s Mansion, and does it have a bunker?
There are rumors that the Russians are behind all of this, and are now on the outskirts of Richmond, and advancing rapidly.

  6. PROFESSOR TURLEY ALTERNATES BETWEEN..

    BAFFLED OBSERVER.. AND CLEAR-EYED REALIST

This passage stands-out from above column:

“Sater is one of many Trump associates who comes across as breathtakingly sleazy. What is also striking is how clueless both men appear”.
    ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Here the professor recognizes that Trump surrounds himself with sleazy associates. I agree. Yet whenever Turley comments on the Mueller Probe or Steele Dossier, he adopts the posture of ‘baffled observer’ trying to make sense of an ‘overzealous’ investigation.

Will the ‘real’ Jonathan Turely please stand up.

    1. Those in the building trade have to deal with unions, politicians and a lot of sleazy people. What they say and what the President actually did are two different things. There is no direct evidence that Trump while running for the Presidency was actively engaged in building a hotel in Russia which isn’t even a crime.

Foolish people focus on information that is meaningless while missing everything that is important. Trump summarized what he did in his State of the Union and it was powerful demonstrating how good a President he has been.

      1. Alan, you saw a different speech.

In the speech I saw, Trump was essentially declaring a ‘national emergency’. But do statistics really show an ’emergency’ situation. Border Apprehensions have been falling for 20 years.

The real emergency is Climate Change. The number of billion dollar disasters is increasing at a verifiable pace. How many more do we need before Republicans stop their denial?

        1. This story from today’s post chronicles the increasing number of billion dollar disasters. It also notes that we continue setting records for ‘Warmest Year On Record’. Are these statistics ‘never’ presented on right-wing media??

          1. Did you never look at the weather cycles Peter?

You are so firm on all scientists in agreement. How about if I post a few scientists:

“We’re not scientifically there yet. Despite what you may have heard in the media, there is nothing like a consensus of scientific opinion that this is a problem. Because there is natural variability in the weather, you cannot statistically know for another 150 years.” — UN IPCC’s Tom Tripp, a member of the UN IPCC since 2004

“Any reasonable scientific analysis must conclude the basic theory wrong!!” — NASA Scientist Dr. Leonard Weinstein who worked 35 years at the NASA Langley Research Center and finished his career there as a Senior Research Scientist.

“In essence, the jig is up. The whole thing is a fraud. And even the fraudsters that fudged data are admitting to temperature history that they used to say didn’t happen…Perhaps what has doomed the Climategate fraudsters the most was their brazenness in fudging the data” — Dr. Christopher J. Kobus, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University, specializes in alternative energy, thermal transport phenomena, two-phase flow and fluid and thermal energy systems and has published peer-reviewed papers.

“Please remain calm: The Earth will heal itself — Climate is beyond our power to control…Earth doesn’t care about governments or their legislation. You can’t find much actual global warming in present-day weather observations. Climate change is a matter of geologic time, something that the earth routinely does on its own without asking anyone’s permission or explaining itself.” — Nobel Prize-Winning Stanford University Physicist Dr. Robert B. Laughlin, who won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1998, and was formerly a research scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

            For the Russian conspiracy theorists:

“The energy mankind generates is so small compared to that overall energy budget that it simply cannot affect the climate…The planet’s climate is doing its own thing, but we cannot pinpoint significant trends in changes to it because it dates back millions of years while the study of it began only recently. We are children of the Sun; we simply lack data to draw the proper conclusions.” — Russian Scientist Dr. Anatoly Levitin, the head of geomagnetic variations laboratory at the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radiowave Propagation of the Russian Academy of Sciences who has published numerous peer-reviewed studies about the interaction of solar radiation with the Earth’s magnetic field.

And for those liking the lay media:

Even the usually reliable news media has started questioning the global warming claims. Newsweek Magazine wrote in May 2010 about the “uncertain science” and how “climate researchers have lost the public’s trust” from a “cascade of scandals” from the UN IPCC. Newsweek compared the leaders of the climate science community to “used-car salesmen. “Once celebrated climate researchers are feeling like the used-car salesmen” and the magazine noted that “some of IPCC’s most-quoted data and recommendations
            5
were taken straight out of unchecked activist brochures, newspaper articles…Just as damaging, many climate scientists have responded to critiques by questioning the integrity of their critics, rather than by supplying data and reasoned arguments.”

Peter, you are outclassed. I am an agnostic on the subject. I analyze the important issues and previously asked you 3 simple questions that remain unanswered.

Let’s take just one of them. If climate change is causing the earth to rapidly warm up (very doubtful) then is what we are doing presently going to stop any catastrophe?

        2. There is a whole bunch of wacky information out there, but when illegals are crossing the border experience in other nations tell us walls work. That you can’t understand that and therefore minimize a problem. That is just more of the same for the wacked out left.

Climate change exists, no doubt, but you are so certain about what is happening that you couldn’t even ask the three simple questions I asked that weren’t technical. Someone told you something so you believe everyone thinks the same. You are wrong as usual. Climate always changes, “So?”

        3. the Climate Change is real for sure. Is it anthropogenic? Hey probably. although sunspots may be an equal factor. The sun could belch one day and fry us all. Remember that. Anyways it is probably irreversible and Democrats taxing business will solve nothing.

A smart climate change policy would encourage investment in MITIGATION not prevention which is probably too late. Seriously Peter check it out. Mitigation is what will be needed to deal with more craziness like the midwest deep freeze or increased hurricanes and coastal flooding. Not some damn tax to fund Democrat pork projects but actually money in private hands being directed as needed.

A lot of Democrats seem to think that only the government can lead well however. Wars maybe. Not engineering projects and private property management. Private people are good at that.

Government could fund major studies in mitigation planning, but instead it’s all wasted on the carbon tax notion. Really sad and incompetent.

        4. “In the speech I saw, Trump was essentially declaring a ‘national emergency’. But do statistics really show an ’emergency’ situation. Border Apprehensions have been falling for 20 years.”

Then you will be pleased to support the wall and push for even more of it to be built quicker.

“There were nearly 467,000 apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2018, the most for any calendar year since at least 2012, according to a Pew Research Center analysis ”

Peter, by now most realize that your data is faulty and that your fact checking when true is nitpicking. Don’t make a fool of yourself by letting headlines fool you especially when the newsmedia you quote has a tremendous bias.

          1. https://goo.gl/images/5xXV9d
Allan, there are reasons why you and Peter saw different SOTU speeches last night.
The “Hollywoodized” version of Trump’s SOTU (see link) that was broadcast locally differed from most networks’ national coverage of the speech that you saw.

      2. Awesome. I sometimes feel sorry for you people; then I re-decide yet again that you types don’t really believe what you spout–no one is that dense. Keep a stiff upper lip, it’ll all be over soon. Thanks for playing.

this is to “is that ticking sound getting louder?” allan / allen

        1. Mark, I should have added that those in the building trade along with having to deal with corrupt unions and corrupt politicians have to deal with sleazy lawyers that are frequently unethical. Have you ever dealt with Trump?

    2. You’re attributing your broken clock reasoning to Jonathan Turley; and for you, twice a day is more than generous.

  7. Professor Turley made a somewhat bizarre presentation here that may be not quite right; rhetorically and factually.

“Yet, there remains the ongoing problem of Trump hiring or associating with incredibly corrupt and sleazy people like Cohen, Sater, and Paul Manafort.”

    – Professor Turley
    ______________

Looks like Manafort was relatively mainstream when hired to assist the Trump campaign.

“Manafort was an adviser to the U.S. presidential campaigns of Republicans Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bob Dole. In 1980, he co-founded the Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm Black, Manafort & Stone, along with principals Charles R. Black Jr., and Roger J. Stone,[5][6][7] joined by Peter G. Kelly in 1984.[8] Manafort ”

And does this say that I cancelled out my own point and should have never published this?

“Again, that is not good politically but it is not incriminating on the hacking operation which is not referenced in the emails.”

Also, the Feminazi White Shirts presented a bizarre contradiction last night. They indicated that the radical feminists are colluding to takeover the country. The problem is that soon there will be no country to takeover because women have put the American fertility rate in a “death spiral” and adopted “abortion-on-demand” as their new rallying cry. Women got the vote. Women got abortion. America got a death sentence. In a few decades, as Americans vanish, the only country left for the taking will be one dominated by the Feminazis and their parasitic foreign imports, all of whom compete for the “free stuff.” Where’s the future in nation of extremists and dependent foreigners that “…tend to produce a heterogeneous compound;…” which will very likely devolve into tribal, internecine conflict over the scraps?

“The influx of foreigners must, therefore, tend to produce a heterogeneous compound; to change and corrupt the national spirit; to complicate and confound public opinion; to introduce foreign propensities. In the composition of society, the harmony of the ingredients is all-important, and whatever tends to a discordant intermixture must have an injurious tendency.”

    – Alexander Hamilton

    1. Please post more material Just. Like. This. Perhaps you can start a petition to eliminate the vote for women and whichever other group you’re wacky about today.

this is to “by gawd, there was nuttin’ wrong with the Articles of Confederation” georgie – paulie

      1. 1000 guys think to themselves: yes! good idea. Since suffrage it’s all been downhill.

  8. Here’s another interesting detail from the Cohen/Sater email exchanges: At 4:40 PM on June 9th, 2016, Sater text messaged Cohen that Putin would be at the St. Petersburg Economic Conference on June 17th, 2016, where Cohen would be sure to meet with Putin.

The June 9th, 2016, Trump Tower meeting started at 4:10 PM and lasted 20 to 30 minutes. And that means that Sater confirmed to Cohen the meeting between Cohen and Putin either very nearly at the same time that the Trump Tower meeting ended or very shortly after that meeting ended.

        1. Is that why you have more than one alias anonymous? At least your other alias can care.

  9. Trump hired an informant and he has trouble. Big surprise from it.
Avoid snitches they are always trouble.

    1. Mr. Kurtz,…
      – I’ll repeat what I wrote months ago; given Sater’s history, anyone stupid enough to put themselves in a situation where they could be put in legal jeopardy by communication/ involvement with Sater deserves what they get.
Re all the speculation about the email chain between Cohen and Sater; Sater himself has probably talked to the OSC team. What little there is of what he’s said publically seems to confirm Cohen’s previous testimony to Congress.
That Sater was basically just “blowing smoke”, the “puffery”.
That isn’t necessarily what either Cohen and/or Sater are now saying. Cohen’s much -anticipated public Congressional testimony that he gave on Feb. 7 might shed some additional light on this subject.
( oh, that’s right. I forgot that he backed out of that Feb.7 appearance).

      1. Anyone interested in trash talking Felix Sater needs to read L4D’s post at 5:32 AM currently near the bottom of this page. Sater is definitely a shady character as well as a convicted criminal. But Sater has also performed outstanding service to the vital national security interests of the United States. Bush, Cheney and Powell all had assassination plots against them that were foiled by human intelligence that Sater gathered. Sater also produced actionable intelligence against Osama bin Laden, other members of Al Qaeda and a plot to sell Stinger missiles to terrorist cells operating in the US and overseas.

To dismiss Felix Sater as “clueless” the way Turley did is, in and of itself, clueless.

          1. I am sure the CIA uses journalistic cover. That is no secret. They also establish strategic connections from the top (Time Life, CD Jackson ) to the bottom (operation mockingbird). but what they would not do is pay a goofy and very recognizable face like Chuck Barris to do physical tasks such as that. Even more implausible than the infamous lies from bullshido fraud Frank Dux

            1. Mr.Kurtz,…
              – I think the much of the stuff written about Sater is about as credible as the Chuck Barris hype.

      2. And another thing: A guy like Felix Sater could just as easily gather human intelligence for Russia as for the US. When Sater boasts about his connections with Putin, he may very well be telling the truth. Or not. But I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it as “puffery.”

  10. These e-mail refer to trying to get Putin in on w/the Trump tower deal. We have no idea if Putin was in on this deal but maybe he was.

The next part refers to getting Trump elected and Satars hopes for an ambassadorship.

    Trump hires people like himself.

We do have proof that the 2016 election was rigged by Hilary Clinton who also wanted Trump as her opposing candidate.

    1. Jill, you might want to ask yourself exactly how Sater setting up a meeting between Cohen and Putin at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum on June 17th, 2016, was going to get Trump elected on Tuesday November 8th, 2016. While you’re at it, you might wonder why Cohen canceled his plans to travel to St. Petersburg to meet with Putin on the same day, June 14th, 2016, that the WaPo reported that Russian government hackers had penetrated the DNC email servers and stole, amongst other things, the DNC’s opposition research on Trump.

Maybe the negotiations over the Trump Tower Moscow deal were not really negotiations over the Trump Tower Moscow deal. Or maybe they were exactly what Trump says they were–a free option in case he lost the election. But I doubt it. Because that deal was not going to go through unless and until Trump became POTUS and lifted or eased the sanctions on the Russian banks needed to finance the Trump Tower Moscow.

      1. The “IF only” girl is at it again. Maybe, maybe and maybe, therefore IF only the Trump campaign… and then there would be evidence to find out IF the campaign can be proven to have done something illegal if that illegal thing is actually a crime and if we were to find the link which depends on…

        1. Knowingly receiving, accepting or soliciting a foreign campaign contribution is, in fact, a crime. Entering into an agreement to conceal from the FEC, by deceptive or dishonest means, the knowing reception, acceptance or solicitation of an illegal foreign campaign contribution while taking overt acts in the furtherance of that conspiracy is also the crime known as Conspiracy to Defraud the United States. The subjunctive mood remains necessary until Mueller and Judge Beryl Howell release Mueller’s grand jury information to The House of Representatives.

          1. The “IF only ” girl responds with her understanding of the law. It is left unsaid that what Diane is really saying is, ‘If only Trump broke a law he would be guilty’, but Trump didn’t break any laws and Diane is left alone with her ‘If only’s’, ‘maybe’ along with her fantassies.

  11. Liz wants to be known as an American Indian? Well, I want to be known as “gorgeous”, but that ain’t gonna happen! LOL.

    1. Oops! Put this on the wrong post! Guess I won’t be known as “focused” either…..😊

      1. I’m going to take a wild guess that Prof. Turley is allowed, by hook or by crook, to EDIT his articles here.

      2. Guess I should have paid more attention to your comment about posting in the wrong place, Cindy.
I followed up by doing the same thing with the comment and link about Warren and Booker.😦

    2. https://goo.gl/images/zG37hF
It’s too easy to link Sen. Warren and Sen. Booker together and take cheap shots at them.
Given that President Trump is too much of a gentleman to stoop to ridicule☺, I’ll post this candid photo of Senate staff members after “The Spartacus Moment”.

  12. Turley consistently misunderstands the significance of evidence. Or does he? Maybe Turley is misrepresenting the significance of evidence, instead. The important part of Sater’s email exchanges with Cohen is that Russia was telling Trump that he had to use a sanctioned Russian bank to get financing for the Trump Tower Moscow deal. And that sent a clear signal to Trump that the sanctions against Russia had to be lifted or eased in order for the Trump Tower Moscow deal to go through. Now who else besides Trump was going to lift or ease the sanctions on Russia? Nobody else. And that means that Russia was telling Trump that he had to get elected POTUS in order for the Trump Tower Moscow deal to go through.

No wonder then that on July 14th 2016–the day the WaPo reported the hack of the DNC email server–Cohen broke off discussions with Sater about traveling to Russia to meet with Putin. The implication is reasonably clear that Cohen at least suspected Russia of being responsible for the hack of the DNC email server. Of course, that suspicion could have been foreknowledge, instead. Worse yet, the negotiations over the Trump Tower Moscow deal could have been a cover story for conspiring with Russia to intervene in the election on Trump’s behalf by way of the hack and leak campaign in exchange for sanctions relief for Russia. Or not. But it certainly looks awfully suspicious.

    1. Of no importance at all except to the mensheviks. The brief given to Meuller was Trump Collusion Russia. Not some tail coater Again the Stupid Party regurgitates the same nonsense. How many times are you going to eat that and throw it up again as if it were edible. Well some like firsts, some like seconds none of us like 666ths

      1. Michael, there’s an alternative possibility that you might want to reconsider; namely, that Putin may have trapped Trump into a compromising situation by way of the negotiations over the Trump Tower Moscow deal. Remember that the June 9th, 2016, Trump Tower meeting took place roughly one month before the WaPo reported on July 14th, 2016, that Russian government hackers had hacked the DNC email server. That means that the Trump campaign had already been told that Russia supported Trump’s candidacy for president and still Trump continued to pursue the Trump Tower Moscow deal for at lest one month after having been informed of Russia’s support for Trump. And Giuliani has suggested that Trump may have continued pursuing the Trump Tower Moscow deal up until election day on Tuesday November 8th, 2016. Given that Trump refuses to answer any questions about decisions he made after becoming President-Elect, there’s no way to eliminate the possibility that Trump continued to pursue the Trump Tower Moscow deal all the way through to August 2nd, 2017, when Trump begrudgingly signed into law The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.

        1. June 14th, 2016. Not July 14th, 2016. Five days after the June 9th, 2016, Trump Tower meeting. Not one month after.

    2. Turley consistently misunderstands the significance of evidence.

      Your pretenses are amusing.

      1. Or does he? Maybe Turley is misrepresenting the significance of evidence, instead.

There’s nothing wrong with a defense counsel minimizing the damage to his client’s case, since there would be something wrong with a defense counsel that didn’t minimize the damage to his client’s case.

            1. An individual provides you a home for free where you can vent all your earthy concerns and you go ahead and insult him. Typical leftist attitude of one receiving a free handout.

            2. Fine then. It is extremely doubtful that Truly will ever become sleazy enough to get hired by Trump.

    3. Your first paragraph makes sense and sounds like reality. The second one is reaching. If the pursuit of Trump had proceeded along the lines of the first then the whole investigative undertaking would have been more credible. Instead, the anti-Trump wing of the political establishment has embraced the most lurid possible spy novel story line about Trump and Russia and needlessly (although not without an agenda of confrontation with Russia) polluted the political discourse for a long time to come.

    4. Correction: WaPo reported the hack of the DNC email server on June 14th, 2016. NOT on July 14th, 2016. That’s only five days after the June 9th, 2016, Trump Tower meeting. Sorry for the error.

      1. And here’s a link to the WaPo report that caused Cohen to cancel his trip to Russia to meet Putin at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum on June 17th, 2016:

Jun 14, 2016 … Russian government hackers penetrated DNC, stole opposition … of opposition research on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, …

        1. Excerpted from the article linked above in re the significance of Russia stealing the DNC’s opposition research on Trump:

“The purpose of such intelligence gathering is to understand the target’s proclivities,” said Robert Deitz, former senior councillor to the CIA director and a former general counsel at the National Security Agency. “Trump’s foreign investments, for example, would be relevant to understanding how he would deal with countries where he has those investments” should he be elected, Deitz said. “They may provide tips for understanding his style of negotiating. In short, this sort of intelligence could be used by Russia, for example, to indicate where it can get away with foreign adventurism.”

We already knew how to make Hillary close her eyes. Pay her cash.

  13. Sater was a participant in a Trump development project about a dozen years ago. He did not and does not work for Trump.

    1. Turley also linked to an article at The Daily Mail that cited Senator Grassley as a source for “expecting the Mueller report by the end of this month.” Ha-ha!

Has William Barr been confirmed as Attorney General yet? Let’s ask Senator Grassley. Or should we ask The Daily Mail? Will Barr’s confirmation happen by the end of this month? Ha-ha!

        1. Excerpted from the NYT article to which Turley linked in his original post for this thread:

Mr. Sater was a broker for the Trump Organization for several years, typically paid to deliver real estate deals. A company he worked for, Bayrock, played a role in financing the Trump SoHo Hotel in New York. Mr. Sater and Mr. Cohen even worked together on a peace plan for Ukraine and Russia that they sought to get in front of Mr. Trump’s national security adviser earlier this year.

          1. The question was: “Diane, do you have Sater’s pay stubs?”

            Diane’s answer was NO.

            1. Mr. Sater was . . . paid to deliver real estate deals.

There are no pay stubs for people who work on commission, you financial nincompoop, you.

              1. “Mr. Sater was . . . paid to deliver real estate deals. There are no pay stubs for people who work on commission, you financial nincompoop, you.”

How do you know Sater worked on commission? What was his rate? Where is the contract?

The only thing you know about buying a selling property seems to be the real estate signs you see as you pass homes that are “for sale”. You have shown us how ignorant you really are especially when it comes to high end real estate.

There may be no pay stubs but along with compensation goes a paper trail. Show us the paper trail. Commission, Salary or whatever. Show us something that is not just part of your fantassy that is in print. The psychiatrists notes don’t help.

    2. Excerpted from the article linked above:

In 2005, Trump’s company signed a one-year deal with the Bayrock Group to push through a construction project in Moscow. As mentioned above, Sater was one of the real estate firm’s founders. Working with Russian investors, Sater found an old pencil factory he believed could be destroyed and replaced with a luxurious skyscraper.

Sater and Trump developed a rapport during that time, Sater said during sworn testimony in an unrelated libel case. He recalled keeping Trump informed about the deal’s progress.

Sater said that he handled all the negotiations, and that his interactions with Trump were “more of verbal updates when I’d come back, pop my head into Mr. Trump’s office and tell him, you know, ‘Moving forward on the Moscow deal.’ And he would say, ‘All right.’”

“I showed him photos, I showed him the site, showed him the view from the site,” he continued.

That deal never materialized, but Sater would remain in the Trump Organization’s orbit. In 2006, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump traveled with Sater in Moscow. While there, Sater took the Trump children on a tour of the Kremlin — during which Ivanka sat and spun around in Putin’s chair while the Russian president wasn’t around.

        1. Turley wrote, “He [Sater] also excitedly says that he arranged for Ivanka to sit in Putin’s chair in Moscow.”

Excerpted from the article linked above:

The event at issue–Ivanka sitting and spinning in Putin’s chair–took place in 2006. That’s roughly ten years before the email exchanges between Sater and Cohen that Turley paraphrased in his original post for this thread. We now know who the real Bournemouth Garbler is: Professor Jonathan Turley.

    3. Excerpted from the article linked above:

Multiple profiles of Sater make one thing jaw-droppingly clear: Sater is an important, yet intentionally unheralded, figure in US national security. Previously secret court filings — some of which were unsealed in March — helped shed light on some of his most daring exploits over roughly 10 years.

Sater’s cooperation “was of an extraordinary depth and breadth, almost unseen, at least in this United States attorney’s office,” a government lawyer, Todd Kaminsky, told a federal court in 2011.

Starting in 1998, Sater received valuable information from an Afghan officer: five satellite phone numbers belonging to one of the world’s most wanted terrorists, Osama bin Laden. That same year, he handed intelligence to American officials that Afghan leaders wanted to sell Stinger missiles, an effective weapon used to shoot down aircraft, according to BuzzFeed News.

Around the same time, according to a federal court document, he gave US law enforcement “specific information about key leaders in Al Qaeda and affiliated groups, including information that could help the United States locate those individuals.”

Four years later, Sater obtained intelligence that terrorists intended to shoot down then-Secretary of State Colin Powell’s plane when it passed by them in Afghanistan. At unknown points, he helped thwart an assassination plot against former President George W. Bush and a scheme to poison his vice president, Dick Cheney.

Sater also obtained the name and photographs of a North Korean agent who aimed to acquire materials to improve his country’s nuclear program in 2004. One year later, he helped catch Russian and Ukrainian cybercriminals — after the FBI gave him a fake name and background.

      1. Here’s a reminder of what Turley said about Felix Sater in his original post for this thread:

Sater assured Cohen that he had the access to Putin and that he could seal the deal. Sater is one of many Trump associates who comes across as breathtakingly sleazy. What is also striking is how clueless both men appear. Sater is convinced that getting the effective endorsement of Putin or some favorable review of Trump’s business skills would guarantee his election.

        [end excerpt]

Compare and contrast Turley’s opinion of Felix Sater with the information provided in the previous excerpt from the article linked above. Especially this part:

Sater’s cooperation “was of an extraordinary depth and breadth, almost unseen, at least in this United States attorney’s office,” a government lawyer, Todd Kaminsky, told a federal court in 2011.

Is Turley sure that Felix Sater is “clueless”? Is Turley really sure that Felix Sater is “clueless”???
