Democrats have (for good reason) criticized President Donald Trump for his signature campaign rally chant of “Lock her up” in referring to his then opponent Hillary Clinton.. Many of us objected to the display as obnoxious and demeaning to our political system. That objection apparently does not hold when a Democratic candidate, in this case Elizabeth Warren, is referencing Donald Trump as being locked up. Warren received the predictably wild applause to her suggestion in a campaign rally that Trump will be in prison by 2020.
The Massachusetts Senator and Democratic presidential candidate was at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and proclaimed “By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president. In fact, he may not even be a free person.” The crowd went wild. It was a painfully familiar scene.
It is of course utter nonsense. The Special Counsel’s report is now expected in March. No compelling case of obstruction or collusion-based crimes has been established against Trump. There is an allegation of campaign finance violations based on the Cohen filings. However, the Justice Department has a long-standing policy (with which I have long disagreed) that it will not indict a sitting president. Moreover, even with such a policy, the indictment of a sitting president would unlikely result in a trial, let alone incarceration, during his term. These trials are often delayed and, in the case of a president, there is a line of cases allowing considerable leeway given to a President and his schedule on such calendars for legal proceedings. In any case, the suggestion of incarceration is pure fantasy fueled by the same blind rage of the “lock her up” chants.
This type of low-grade applause line threatens to quickly take the Democratic primary from hypocrisy to demagoguery.
Its sad that Liz Warren who had some good ideas about banking reform, has descended into such a cranky old hag, between the Indian fiasco and now this. It makes me feel dumb that I ever liked her!
JT: while you can find many examples of people at Trump rallies chanting “Lock Her Up” I don’t believe you can find any example of Trump saying that. If anyone reading this had done the same things Clinton did, they would be sitting in a cell right now. So the question is: why wasn’t she locked up?

Democrats’ freshmen class of lawmakers are providing the party with a new source of passion — and a lot of headaches.
A series of tweets sent Sunday night from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) are another addition for the latter category.
The tweets began after a writer for the Intercept, Glenn Greenwald, posted a story about Rep. Kevin McCarthy “threatening punishment” of Rep. Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) “over their criticisms of Israel.” (As CNN’s Jake Tapper noted, McCarthy’s comments were actually directed at “what he sees as anti-Semitic rhetoric from Reps. Omar and Tlaib.”)
Rep. Omar responded to Greenwald’s post with, “It’s all about the Benjamins baby”:
The insinuation that Jewish interests were compelling Rep. McCarthy’s actions prompted some to ask Rep. Omar for clarification.
When a writer for the Forward asked, “Would love to know who Omar thinks is paying American politicians to be pro-Israel,” Rep. Omar responded: “AIPAC!”
As a 501(c))4), the American Israel Political Affairs Committee (AIPAC) does not actually make contributions to politicians.
Omar later re-tweeted a Jewish writer who described himself as not generally sympathetic to Israel, but felt Rep. Omar’s attacks on Jews were akin to calling “us hook-nosed.”

In response to the escalating anger over her tweets, Rep. Omar said she’s the victim of “smears.” After Chelsea Clinton said “we have to call out anti-Semitic language and tropes on all sides, particularly in our elected officials and particularly now,” Rep. Omar responded:
The freshman lawmaker then began retweeting a series of people who said her comments about Jews were not anti-Semitic.
This is not Rep. Omar’s first time being accused of trafficking in anti-Semitic tropes. Before entering Congress, she wrote that Israel “hypnotized the world,” comments she later said she didn’t understand why Jews found offensive. More recently Rep. Omar used Holocaust Remembrance Day to downplay the Holocaust.

For all the things I’m confident Trump is guilty of. I have little hope he’ll spend a day in jail before 2020, if at all. “For the good of the county,” he’ll be pardoned in advance of an actual trial assuming Pence is in charge and able to do so. SDNY is the biggest worry he faces as opposed to the Mueller report which will get partially lost in partisan sniping. If it weren’t for the Justice Department guideline about not indicting a sitting President, I’d give it better odds but for right now, he stays free. I would put the odds over 50% he doesn’t finish out his term.

“Staffers to Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax resign following second sexual assault allegation”
Two of the three government staffers to Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and two employees of his political action committee resigned following news Friday of a second sexual assault allegation against him.
The PAC employees who left are Dave Mills, who was the executive director of We Rise Together, and Courtney McCargo, a fundraiser for the PAC.
Mills is the husband of state Sen. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, who is considered a strong contender to replace Fairfax as lieutenant governor should Fairfax resign.
On the government side, Adele McClure, the policy director, resigned, as did Julia Billingsley, the scheduling director.
Lauren Burke, Fairfax’s communications director, remains employed by his PAC and Larry Roberts, his chief of staff, remains on as a state employee.
The job of lieutenant governor is part time. Fairfax is a lawyer at the firm Morrison & Foerster, which has placed him on paid leave

Nah, I’m good. Thee ae two theories I’m working with. The one that would seem to make the most sense is that Junio won’t be indicted until he has completed his report. Knowing daddy wil go ballistic and might do any damn thing. I’ve decided on a second theory, that after compiling all the evidence he has against Trump, Mueller has come to despise him and wants to punish him. He’ll keep releasing information (like he did in the Manafot hearing where he raised the issue of conspiracy again without redacting the transcript) and issuing indictments every othe week or so from this point on. Junior will be sooner than later because the initial indictment will be relatively minor. It will be the superseding indictments that get issued concurrent with the report.

There aren’t that many indictments left of key players, given so many have already been indicted. Don Jr, Jared, Corsi, maybe Ivanka, if we’re lucky Rudy. By May we should have seen the last of them.
