Trump Suggests Some Involved In Mueller Investigation Could Be “Traitors” And Still Be Brought To Justice

President Donald Trump appears intent on fueling calls for impeachment with unhinged statements calling some who worked with Special Counsel Robert Mueller as possible “traitors” and promising to “turn the tables” and to “bring them to justice”. While the President could simply relish the lack of findings of any criminal conduct, he has again adopted disturbing rhetoric that is reminiscent more of authoritarian regimes than American administrations.

Trump is golfing at Mar-a-Lago but took time out for incendiary tweets. The tweets are chilling:

“Statements are made about me by certain people in the Crazy Mueller Report, in itself written by 18 Angry Democrat Trump Haters, which are fabricated & totally untrue.”

“It was not necessary for me to respond to statements made in the “Report” about me, some of which are total bullshit & only given to make the other person look good (or me to look bad). This was an Illegally Started Hoax that never should have happened.”

“It is now finally time to turn the tables and bring justice to some very sick and dangerous people who have committed very serious crimes, perhaps even spying or treason. This should never happen again!”

It is not clear who Trump is referencing but it is the type of rhetoric that fueled the allegations of obstruction. The Special Counsel report is a 400 page tale of self-inflicted wounds. Trump however is clearly not deterred in leveling such incendiary charges against his critics.

Such rhetoric is likely to only push both Congress and Mueller into more defiant stances when Trump should be trying to move the country beyond the controversy.

  1. Shh, Turley doesn’t know about all the text messages, or the dossier was faked, don’t wake him up, it might scare him into reality.

    1. He doesn’t know about the spies(foreign and domestic) that were used in an attempt to entrap Trump and his associates. Stephan Halper? Alexander Downer? Josef Mifsud? Richard Dearlove..etc, etc, etc. He’s doesn’t acknowledge that the “investigation” into Trump started long before “operation Hurricane.” Turley is naive, at best. The main reason I still come here is to see how the Prof deals with the coming revelations.

  2. Turley wrote, “President Donald Trump appears intent on fueling calls for impeachment with unhinged statements calling some who worked with Special Counsel Robert Mueller as possible “traitors” and promising to “turn the tables” and to “bring them to justice”.

That’s not really Trump Tweeting. That’s Putin working Trump’s stops with Vlad’s hand all the way up Trump’s backside. Putin wants to know what’s behind Mueller’s redactions. The easiest (albeit, not especially easy) way for Putin to find out what’s behind Mueller’s redactions is to order Trump to demand Putin’s counter-investigation against the DOJ, the FBI, the SCO, the Obama holdovers and everybody else on Crazy George’s list of the usual suspects. Whatever is behind Mueller’s redactions is potentially exculpatory for the targets of Putin’s counter-investigation. So either the targets suppress exculpatory evidence in their own cases or the targets graymail themselves for public disclosure of exculpatory evidence in their own cases. There’s at least one name for that strategy: Whipsaw. Although, if you put your mind to it, I’m sure you could come up with a few more “incendiary” terms for it.

    1. Get with the times, Obama couldn’t run anymore, the Liar in chief is gone.

  4. Trump’s rhetoric aside, there is plenty of room for legitimate investigations into the roots of the Russiagate investigation itself. The entire operation is full of shady characters (often ex-, or allegedly ex-, intelligence operatives), connections to DNC insiders, and “collusion” with foreign sources. I hope there will be investigations into the roots of this attempt to undermine an elected president. There are always self-inflicted wounds where Trump is concerned, but some of what happened was a clear attempt to set up Trump and his associates, and to entrap them.

Others have already posted some examples of cause for such an investigation.

    1. What has happened to Turley?

Looks as if he has lost his nut.

TDS much as many others, it appears so?

I suggest reading Patrick Henry: Leave us in Peace, cause even an ole guy like me can tell what happens when azzholes attempt to murder the king & Fail!!!

Plead Ignorance or Flee, I would strongly suggest to all the noted Traitors.

In the mean while let’s us rejoice in Jesus Christ & this Easter holiday weekend.

  5. Many of us have been very concerned about the improper use of government authority about conservaties. Several of those actions may have been a soft coup attempt.

Of course they should be investigated. Without the inflammatory rhetoric. Investiate, find the facts, and go from there.

I think that he should have made a statement to the effect that there was an unbiased investigation into the misuse of authority for political purposes. Using opposition research, unverified, to get a FISA warrant to spy on a political campaign, for example, would qualify. He should say he will not comment on the investigation until it has been completed and reviewed.

  6. InfoWars, Never Bigger, as Lying Fake News, CNN, MSNBC, USA Today, NPR, etc,… alll bleed out & go Tits up BK’d!!!!

But let us enjoy our holiday weekend & pray that those Traitors, the Commie/Fascist Domestic Enemies Confess their crimes Publicly, with No prior plea deal & only ask our leader President Trump for Mercy. I suggest they do so fast.

  8. President Donald Trump appears intent on fueling calls for impeachment with unhinged statements calling some who worked with Special Counsel Robert Mueller as possible “traitors” and promising to “turn the tables” and to “bring them to justice”….

nothing unhinged about his comments. He is only firing up his supporters to create a counter wave to the firing up of the Left

The Left never win based on facts or principles. They win on emotions.

    Trump is doing likewise

As to reminiscent more of authoritarian regime

that would fit the Left all too well particularly those who tried a silent coup against Mr, Trump. Hanging them might be apropos but a waste of rope

  9. PROFESSOR TURELY PROMINENTLY QUOTED..

IN TODAY’S WA PO COVERAGE OF PROBE’S AMBIGUOUS END

For nearly two years, the public, Congress and the White House waited to learn if special counsel Robert S. Mueller III would find that President Trump had committed crimes. When the answer was finally revealed, it turned out Mueller didn’t think that was his job at all.

The special counsel ended his investigation last month, pointedly choosing not to reach a conclusion about whether the president had obstructed justice.

In a report of its findings, Mueller’s team said that choice was driven in large part by a long-standing legal opinion at the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) that a sitting president should not be indicted, even if the charges remained sealed.

Mueller’s team concluded that also meant they could not accuse the president of a crime, even in secret internal documents, the report said.

That move surprised everyone, including Attorney General William P. Barr and his senior advisers, according to current and former Justice Department officials. When Mueller presented his findings without reaching a decision about the president, Barr reviewed the evidence and decided that Trump had not obstructed justice.

The unusual ending to the investigation stems from a key legal disagreement between Mueller’s team and Barr — opening the door to further political fights over presidential power, Justice Department policies and decision-making inside the Trump administration.

Why Barr’s 2018 memo on obstruction is raising questions

The Post’s Matt Zapotosky explains why Attorney General William P. Barr’s decision to not charge President Trump with obstruction raises new questions. (Video: Monica Akhtar/Photo: Bill O’Leary/The Washington Post)
[Mueller report lays out obstruction evidence]

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, said Mueller’s failure to make a decision on obstruction was “one of the biggest surprises of the report,” and he was still struggling to understand the special counsel’s thought process.

“It doesn’t make any sense, because on collusion, he seemed to be perfectly empowered to reach a conclusion on whether the president committed a crime,” Turley said. “The other problem is that his mandate clearly allowed him to make a decision, and [Justice Department headquarters] had clearly indicated he could make a decision.”

Spokespersons for the Justice Department and special counsel’s office declined to comment.

The redacted Mueller report released Thursday makes clear that he and his prosecutors viewed the OLC opinion to mean they also could not come to a conclusion about whether the president had committed a crime because it would violate Justice Department standards of fairness to make such an accusation — even secretly — without giving the person a chance to fight the accusation.

  10. Dear Prof:

I don’t know about all that, sir. But, I do know this entire Russssssha crap wasn’t brought on by Trump. So, America now deserves to know exactly who ran this scam and if laws were broken, they must be prosecuted.

    1. Laurie: please don’t let actual facts get in the way of your Faux News/Trump devotion. Nevertheless the following are FACTS: 1. Russia did interfere in the 2016 Presidential election, but Trump has sided with Putin and against his own intelligence agencies; 2. The purpose for meddling was to help Trump; 3. Trump, his son and his campaign knew about it and did not report it to the FBI; 4. To this day, nothing significant has been done to stop it from happening again; 5. Trump refused to sit for an in-person interview, under oath; 6. His responses to questions were not complete or forthcoming (likely written by Giuliani), so Mueller could not receive complete information upon which to make a charging decision because such determinations depend on proving motive beyond a reasonable doubt; 7. The entire matter came to the attention of American Intelligence as a result of a conversation in a bar in England, not due to HRC, her campaign or any other Democrats. Trump was NOT exonerated. Mueller fully expects that Congress will act to address his abuse of power and other unethical behavior.

The net result of this investigation is that Trump is a petty, scared egomaniac who would be behind bars right now if his minions had carried out his commands to do further acts to obstruct justice.

And, pulleeze, would you Trumpsters stop acting like you speak for mainstream “America”. You are in the extreme minority. Most Americans did NOT vote for Trump, don’t like him, most disapprove of his job performance and most believe that he is guilty of criminal behavior. Trump DID NOT WIN!

      1. Laurie.
“Trumpsters” do NOT speak for “mainstream America”.
Natacha’s objective rants, prompted by severe TDS, are the true voice of America .😉🤔🙄😄😀

        1. Tom – I find it typical that she claimed to present facts, but what followed was unsubstantiated opinion and vicious gossip.

          1. Karen S.,
Then overall, you feel that Natacha’s rants are not objective facts!?🙄

      2. Okay so what if we give you that — Trump DID NOT WIN. Hillary LOST. Trump IS President. What’s to disapprove of? Economy is very good, job numbers are doing well, he hasn’t gotten us into any new wars, he got tax cuts put in place, prison reform finally happened, all the cable news outlets that were losing viewers and losing money are now raking it in…everybody’s doing well under Trump..even the haters and losers…what’s the problem? You don’t like his ‘style’ of communicating?

and if Russia was such a “threat” to our “democracy” then why the hell didn’t Obama act like it and do something, instead of being so matter of fact about it?

btw…it’s Hillary who should be behind bars right now…

        1. And just a reminder that most Americans voted for Barack Obama, but when he left office his popularity numbers were high, but not his policy approval or direction of the country approval numbers….he only survived because of his cult of personality…he knew that…and he spent a great deal of time and effort nurturing his popularity numbers to cover for his unpopular policies…

Trump has higher approval numbers than you think…make no mistake about it…

      3. Except none of your tripe is grounded in law or facts. You sound like a disgruntled leftist who is unable or unwilling to accept the results of an investigation. Your kind are a dime a dozen. Put on your puzzy hat and go march. Or something.

By the way, I was one of the “deplorables” who never believed the Cankled corrupt beast had a chance. I was right. Save your smugness.

  11. Kellyanne Conway Goes Scorched Earth in Press Conference

Kellyanne Conway gave a one heckuva press conference Thursday afternoon, calling the Muller investigation a “political proctology exam” and holding up a blank sheet of paper to represent the accomplishments of the current Democrat Congress.

Conway lambasted select members of the media who are on TV all day saying whatever they please because “they’re not under oath.” Conway also demanded both members of the press and Democrat presidential candidates furnish the evidence they’ve been claiming they have.

“You’re just going to have to move on and start covering issues Americans, in your polling, are telling you is important to them,” said Conway. “The country has a right to ask — when are you going to legislate and not investigate? The burden is increasingly going to be on those who won’t let go of this big lie.”

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2019/04/kellyanne-conway-goes-scorched-earth-in-press-conference-calls-mueller-investigation-political-proctology-exam/

    1. Estovir says: “Conway lambasted select members of the media who are on TV all day saying whatever they please because “they’re not under oath.”

Estovir, is this the same Kellyanne Conway who tried to present “alternate facts” on “Meet The Press”?

    2. Kellyanne slayed that press conference.

The hard Left has been pushing around conservatives for long enough.

They hate that Trump won. They want him gone, regardless of justice, or fairness, or the rule of law. At any cost.

We need more like her standing up to their propaganda.

        1. “Kellyanne’s “alternative facts” waa a really powerful message.”

Powerful to those that think. Those that have already decided what the message should be are left with their mouths open and spittle dripping from them.

  12. Absolutely! How can you defend the likes of Brenner, Clapper, Comey & Company…..let alone the DNC. These are bad actors that paid for a phoney dossier & deceptive FISA warrant. They all should be held accountable.
If you had just been elected President & knew that this was all an effort to undermine his efforts to lead the country, you would understandably be royally frustrated & angered.
This is supposed to be a democracy where elections matter.

    1. If Trump would just use some restraint and think more about what he says and tweeters but instead he fuels the haters with admonition to keep all the drama alive!! He shoots hisself in the foot more than is wise. I totally understand his aggravation and billigerence … I just wish he wasn’t so combative verbally. I think Mr. Turley is correct.

      1. Kimberly when a group of Democratic thugs are about to go after you and hang you by your neck do you really want to die so quietly or do you fight back?

          1. Politics is theater. Smartness went out the window decades ago. Besides one needs to consider the audience

            1. Yes, Trump considers his audience. This the group promised a free wall over and over who are now eager to pay for it. I’m sure his respect for them is………appropriate.

              1. Anon’s big complaint against Trump that he repeats over and over again is that he doesn’t think the wall is being built on someone else’s dime. Trump hasn’t even completed his term and the left has fought him all the way to stop him from being successful even on these trivial issues yet Trump is still working towards his goal… the wall and is building it. Whether those costs will fall on other shoulders is an unknown much like will Hillary be put in jail in the future.

Anon deals in trivialities. That is his nature.

  13. The people he is referencing as traitors are those who attempted this soft coup. How do you not know this Mr. Turley? Americans I know what them locked up!
